Human Rights Watch and other organizations are reporting another wave of abuses againast Tigrayans in Western Tigray and perpetrated by local Amharan forces backed by the Ethiopian military. Over a million Tigrayans have been displaced from Western Tigray alone during this conflict and recent reports state local Amharan forces are massacring Tigrayan civilians with axes and machetes.

Al Jazeera said:
Amhara and Tigray claim the fertile fields of western Tigray, which are now controlled by Amhara forces and the Ethiopian military.

The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs said 1.2 million people have been forced out of western Tigray since the conflict began, including more than 10,000 in the last week of November.

Amnesty and HRW said they interviewed 31 people in western Tigray by phone in November and December, who described a surge of abuses by Amhara security forces and militias.

This is unfortunately apparently the latest bout of killings and reprisals that has been going on in the region since the conflict began.

Al Jazeera said:
Rights groups say all sides in the conflict have committed abuses. Days after war broke out in November 2020, mass killings were reported in western Tigray, including the Mai Kadra massacre, when Tigrayans killed hundreds of Amhara civilians and then Tigrayans were killed in retaliation.

Earlier this month, HRW said Tigrayan forces had summarily executed dozens of civilians in two towns they controlled in the Amhara region between August 31 and September 9.

A little civil instability ain't no reason to cancel a military parade... and if there's anything we know from the REE'ING that occurred when Trump proposed a military parade, only Dictators and Fascists conduct military parades. So... there.

Meanwhile, not to be outdone, the Tigray forces also paraded Ethiopian Armed Forces a few weeks ago.

no, he won a nobel peace prize in 2019 for, and I quote; "for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea."

I think he was making a joke calling it the "Yasser Arafat" Nobel Peace Prize after one of its most famous recipients.

The Ethiopian Government has declared a Humanitarian Truce in the ongoing Tigray War (Yes that's still going on and yes, more people probably died in it then the Russian Invasion of Ukraine... for now).

BBC said:
In its statement on Thursday, the government said that the truce was "indefinite" and "effective immediately", but added that it would only improve the lives of people in the north of the country if the move was reciprocated.

Looks like someone is angling for a second Nobel Peace Prize now that most of Europe has taken themselves out of the running. :sneaky:

We'll see how it turns out.

Sounds like a Tequila problem as opposed to a water one.

Can you not grow Agave in Egypt?
You probably meant that as joke, but thinking on it...you probably could grow agave in Egypt.

I think the reason no one has is probably agriculture export rules.

The evaporation of water from the lake would create local rain and take off some of the strain off the system and even if the suroundung land is shit it will still be less shit then before.
The land would still be destroyed. There is a reason as to why it never happened, 1. it's too dangerous, we don't know what would happen. 2. it would be Salt Water, and most of the rain would likely dump in the lake, or back into the Mediterranean 3. It would KILL everything. all the animals living in that area. 4. it's too expensive to make, even more so if one were to attempt to make it a Fresh water lake.

Due to prevalent winds and lack of geographical features, which could catch the moisture, it is unlikely it would have any effect.

The land there is pretty much worthless. Cost factor you mentioned is much more important, big cost for next to no gain.
they use the land for solar panels. look through google earth and you'll see an absolute shit fuck number of solar panels.
