Chapter 46
Cyrannus System
Helios Gamma, Acheron Asteroid Belt

The mountain sized rock had floated through space for billions of years, there since the dawn of the solar system itself, long since catalogued and surveyed it contained no valuable tylium or rare elements, just simple iron, it had been given a simple alpha numeric designation and logged in the database to be forgotten.

As the rock tumbled through space a shape approached, recognisable to anyone in the Colonies as the ships that won them the war, a battlestar, a single turret began to track the rock from fifty thousand kilometres away, preparing.

Tests were ran as the ship closed the distance, ammunition checked, the other systems had already been impressive enough but the weapons were the real prize, "We've reached optimum firing distance sir", the ever steady voice of Colonel Tolan announced.

Cain smirked as he smacked his riding crop off the console, "Perfect, lets show them what our weapons can do, open fire"

The twin mount turret locked on and released two streaks of red light, both were highly energetic compressed tylium plasma and the effect they had when they impacted the asteroid was devastating, they bored a molten hole through the centre and detonated within, turning millions of tons of rock and iron into a cloud of dust, Cain spared a glance out of the side of his eye to see the impressed form of Admiral Nagala standing beside the current president Garret Rand, both looked pleased with the results.

That was the twentieth rock they had destroyed today, demonstrating all of the Pegasus' new cannons, small and large, the ship had passed its space trials with flying colours.

"Impressive weapons Commander", Rand spoke, "I think I can get the final approval past the Quorum with these results", Rand turned to Nagala, "How fast can you upgrade the fleet with these weapons?"

"Faster than you'd think, we've already been upgrading our ships with new reactors, shields and laser cannons, while that was happening we put in all the ground work for the plasma guns, we can swap them out fast enough, a week per ship"

Rand nodded, "Good, we've put a lot of effort into this, we don't want things falling apart at the last hurdle", Factories were already producing the new weapons for the fleet upgrade, lab tests had sown the power of the weapons even before these trials, they would do until better stuff came along.

Nagala turned to Cain, "Time for the vipers?"

"It sure is", Cain turned to Tolan, "Contact the Picus, tell them its time"

Tolan was his original XO from the old Pegasus, like most of the bridge crew he had been revived into this strange future, his old ship had been running on a skeleton crew even back then though, the few hundred still left alive not nearly enough to man a ship of this size, most of the main positions were filled by old crew but others like the navigator and FTL officer were new, so was most of the viper complement, only his daughter survived from those.

"Tell Sheba to get our Vipers ready, its time to put on a show"

The Picus was an old war era freighter converted into a drone control ship for pilot training, Colonial drones were dumb machines, following simple attack programming, the Picus normally carried two squadrons of Mimic drones that outwardly resembled old Cylon raiders, they were used for target practice normally.

Today she was carrying something different, captured modern raiders stripped of their organic components and mounted with simple control systems, they would be executing attacks on the Pegasus today, no weapons of course, but it would be a good demonstration of the Viper mark eights.

"Cylon raiders on approach, eta five minutes", the sensor operator called out.

While the president was on the ship he had brought along a gaggle of media types, Cain had managed to fob most of them off and dump them in one of the briefing rooms with a live feed from the sensors, he still had to contend with a few cameras pointed on him today, Rand wanted a good showing to shore up his flagging popularity.

Cain nodded to Nagala then turned to face the crew, "Set condition one, launch alert vipers"

He felt a slight rumble as Vipers blasted out of the launch tubes, twenty four Vipers were soon forming up in front of the ship, not the whole complement but enough for this demonstration, "Shields are up sir, point defences are on standby", Tolan informed him.

"Vipers are clear to engage"

The mark eights blasted away on their new engines, far faster than the old chemical thrusters or even the newer fusion engines that the mark seven's had been refit with, Cain turned to look at the sensor readouts as the small craft vanished from sight, "Bring up the forward telescope view, I want to see this"

He saw the raiders, forty eight of them on approach, exactly twice as many as the vipers, their simple programming was sending them into evasive manoeuvrers as the red plasma began to fly in, the Vipers blasting past far faster than any before.

Explosions blossomed as raiders were hit, the Vipers flipped as they passed and sent more shots into the back of the evading raiders, more exploded leaving only ten, "Raiders entering point defence range sir"

"Engage"

The Pegasus carried a mix of standard laser cannons and bullet spewing flack and chain guns, the beams reached out first and erased the remnant of the raiders in one go, compared to his old ship this Pegasus would mince any fighter that came too close.

It was one of the strange things about this time, while seemingly primitive these Colonies had far more industrial might than his old home, far better faster than light travel too, so much so he imagined if they had something similar back then the Cylons would have been defeated in a day, and their anti fighter defences blew his old ships out of the water.

"Those are the new mark eights right", Rand asked, "I can see a lot of similarities to the mark twos"

"Yes Mr President", Nagala answered, "The vipers on the old Colonial ship were very similar to our mark twos, it was easier to start making a new design based on them with the better technology, we saved a lot of development time"

Cain rubbed his chin as he listened in, he had looked at a mark two up close, it was a smoother more curved looking version of his old vipers, better looking, another of the strange similarities to add to the list, he suspected that outside powers had shaped the development of the Colonies along a similar path as the old ones but he lacked any hard proof.

The returning Vipers caught his eye, the mark eights had taken the best from both Colonies, the agility of the current crop and the speed and power of his old home, tylium fusion rockets gave more thrust than standard fusion engines, they also had turbo mode where more fuel could be dumped into the thrust nozzles like old afterburners, twin plasma guns gave then good hitting power and shields let them take those hits in turn, they would be the mainstay of the Colonial fleet going forward.

Cain watched as the President grew bored and left, the man was a bit grating to be around in Cain's professional opinion, something he knew others taught of him, he was glad to be rid of him, Nagala approached him after the president and his entourage left the CIC.

"Good work Cain, Rand should be able to push the refit program through the Quorum, its better than waiting years for new ships"

Cain hated politicians and wasn't shy about letting everyone know, "I've had my fill of politics, my old government thought it was a great idea to send our whole fleet to a peace signing and leave our worlds completely undefended", Cain turned to face Nagala, "Baltar's plan", a finger jabbed at Nagala, "I know he's alive here in this time"

Nagala sighed, "He's a snake, one I would be happy to hand over to your crew for some justice but he signed a deal with the government, I cant officially do anything"

He would get what was coming to him, Cain would guarantee that, no matter how long it took, "Anyway", Nagala spoke, "I'm putting together a scouting mission to Tellus, we were loaned a stealth ship from the Terrans and I have the leaders of the resistance chomping at the bit to get back, I want your ship involved"

Cain raised an eyebrow, he had seen the reports from that planet, fifty baseship analogues was a tough number to beat even in the best of circumstances, he'd need more than one battlestar for that.

The reptilian Cylons had built quite the empire past that nebula, the Ovions too, he had never cared for those bugs, they had always been a threat to humanity even back then, they were far too quick to bow down to the Cylons.

"What's the plan?"

"Nothing major, I just want your ship nearby the system in case anything goes wrong and sending a fleet might draw attention, we still don't know how good the enemy sensors are"

Cain nodded, supporting a covert mission deep in enemy territory, sounded right up his alley, it would give him the chance to test the crew too, maybe even fight one of the Cylon ships, find out how good they were.

"Count me in Admiral, I could do with the excitement after these last few months"

Atreus, Free Worlds League
Captain-General's Office
14th January 3006 (11h February 2066)

Opulent would be best description of the office, a rich hardwood desk dominated the room, deep purple drapes obscured the outside world and showed the colours of the nation, leather chairs provided more comfort than most knew existed, a man sat behind that desk, middle aged and with dark hair starting to show a hint of grey, he was contemplating the current state of the Sphere with a creased brow, the emblem of the Free Worlds League distorted with his flesh.

The last few years had been disastrous, his forays onto the Capellan and Lyrans had been met with failure and loss, culminating at the humiliation as Solaris and the execution of the man he blamed for the failure, General Crawford, the FWLM had suffered horrendous casualties in Capellan space too, as battles there bogged down into bloodbaths.

On top of that his attempts to leverage his power under the mercenaries in his employ had backfired and made him an enemy in the form of Cranston Snord, but things were changing now, that old fool Alessandro had made a grave mistake.

SAFE had long seen him move his forces to the border, Alessandro thought he could build a wall of forces to prevent the League from encroaching on Lyran territory, what a fool he was, he had left his core completely undefended.

Janos planned to show him how stupid he was, a series of deep raids into the heart of the Commonwealth, plans that were just waiting to be sprung, the moment had come recently, a massive pirate raid on Hesperus was a sign, the Lyrans had scrambled to reinforce the world and left key points dangerously exposed.

It was all he needed to move his plans forward, FWLM forces were already making gains on Coventry as he sat there smirking, the Lyrans had been caught completely flat footed, a fitting turn from the earlier losses they had caused him, not the shoe was on the other foot, his men would run rampant while the Lyrans scrambled to move their mech back into position, their other major battlemech production site would be in ruins by then though, he smirked wider, the Lyrans would be crippled for years.

Those thoughts brought a smile to his face, one that vanished when he remembered what a pit of vipers the Free Worlds League was, any false move and that Andurien bitch Humphreys would be at his back dagger in hand, his own brother was even turning against him, he must have liked Crawford more than he assumed.

A chime came from the antique Terran clock on the wall, five pm local time, his meeting with the head of SAFE, he reached over and hit the intercom to his secretary, "Send in Director Ippolito"

Janos steepled his fingers as the double doors opened, he was dreading this meeting, for one moment in time it seemed that his fortunes and those of the Free Worlds League had begun to change for the better, a sudden call for an emergency meeting from the head of SAFE could only be the start of bad news.

Donna Ippoltio was in her late fifties, her hair was completely grey at this point, she towered over most men at six foot four in height and in her youth she must have been quite the looker, her age didn't stop her as she strode across the expanse from the door to his desk, she was ramrod straight in her impeccable dark pant suit, she slid into the chair across from him without a sound, taking a relaxed pose with her legs crossed.

Janos' eyebrow rose, she seemed to be in a cheerful mood, perhaps it wasn't bad news, "So, what's the emergency?"

A faint smile played out across her face, like a cat that had caught a canary, SAFE had a reputation for being the worst intel agency in the whole Sphere, whatever happened must have been good to put her in that mood, "What would you say if someone walked up and just gave you everything you ever wanted?"

"I don't have time for games Director, get to the point", an angry growl left his lips, he had too much going on to waste time on things like that.

Donna nodded, "We have just been given the full technical specs and production information for Star League freezers"

Janos' mouth dropped open in shock, "What?", that simple sentence went against everything in his world view, no one gave away lostech, especially not how to make it, not without asking for a great price, "Explain, in detail"

"A few weeks ago we received a message on one of our worlds, Ariel, we thought they were some unknown periphery power, they wanted to set up a diplomatic meeting with our government", she ran a hand through her hair, "All we got was they called themselves the Terran Union and were offering to help undo the damage of the succession wars"

Janos snorted, "Repair the damage of centuries", he shook his head, "Fools"

Donna shrugged, "We didn't think much of it until yesterday when we were approached again, in person on Atreus", she reached into a pocked and pulled out a Star League standard data drive, "We were given this and the promise of more, in return they want a meeting with you"

Janos reached over his desk and took the offered drive, "You checked it?"

She nodded, "Copies were made and put into secure storage, its all there, everything on double heat sinks"

Janos rubbed chis chin, "More they said, and only for a meeting?"

"Yes, they have a dropship waiting at the spaceport, Leopard class, I was even onboard after we verified the data, they showed me what more was, a whole memory core, full production specs for mechs, ships, everything"

Janos felt his blood still, a giddy feeling began to build up, a whole Star League memory core for a meeting, the world had surely gone mad, "What?", it was all he could say.

She nodded, "They did mention one other thing, they wanted a star system, New Dallas, I checked, its a world that was destroyed in the first succession war, no real value after the terraforming equipment was ruined"

A tremor went through Janos as he bent over, Donna watched as he shook then heard the laugh break out of his mouth, "A dead system for a memory core, I'd trade dozens of them", he shook his head, "What are our chances of taking the core from the ship?"

She shrugged, "We could take it no problem, taking it intact is the issue, they did have a lance of royal grade mechs onboard though, four Marauders, they looked brand new too, 2R variant I think, they'd blow the core before we could get access in any case"

Janos nodded, "I would expect as much, Royal mechs though, I doubt this is some small periphery nation re contacting the Sphere, this sounds like something else"

Donna nodded, "There's only one explanation, Kerensky, its the only thing that fits, they have to be the SLDF returned", she leaned back in the chair.

"I'll meet them, I'd be a fool not to, when?"

"A few days, said they needed their commander to get in range, whatever that means"

Janos nodded, "Observe them closely Director, I want to know everything, have some contingency plans drawn up in the meantime, if a core's on that ship I will have it by any means"

New Avalon, Federated Suns
Royal Court, Ian Davion's Office

Three men occupied the office, a large man sat behind the desk, from the look on his face it was a place where he didn't want to be, still in the prime of his life Ian Davion listened as the head of MIIO, Nicholas Truston, spun a tale right out of a pulp novel.

"So, they gave us freezers, just like that?"

Truston nodded, "Yes your highness, along with the promise of access to a full memory core should you attend this meeting"

"Sounds like a trap", Hanse spoke up from where he was lounging on a recliner.

Ian looked back to Truston, "Is it?"

"We don't believe so, it would be a poor attempt anyway, the meeting will be a remote one, relayed through the dropship in the spaceport to some other location, implying that they have access to HPG technology"

Ian leaned back in his chair, he hated politics and would have much preferred to solve his problems from the cockpit of a mech but anyone could see this was game changing, any house lord that got access to a memory core would be that much close to being the victor in the current crop of wars.

"And we have no idea who these people are?"

Truston shook his head, "Several we identified with Terran accents, apart from that all we have is a name, the Terran Union, that alone points in only one direction, the SLDF exodus fleet"

Ian leaned back in his chair, a meaty hand rose up to rub his chin as he recalled his lessons about the fall of the Star League and the aftermath, "We never did find out where Kerensky went", he mused.

Truston nodded, "Our best result was the Church expedition, but all they found was an old Rim Worlder base and rumours"

Ian nodded, "You think its them then, returned after two hundred years", a hand ran through his hair, "And now they want to help us?"

Truston shrugged, "Its the best explanation that isn't complete fantasy, its possible they could also be descendants of a secret Hegemony world in the deep periphery, looking for allies in the Sphere, one that retains its full technical databases"

"Either way its an opportunity we would be foolish to ignore", Hanse spoke up, he was far more politically savvy than Ian, his closest advisor and brother all in one, "With access to that memory core we could rebuild our shattered industries and fix the glaring holes in our knowledge"

"What about the Dragoons?", Ian asked, "We have our suspicions about their origins too, could they be related?"

Truston nodded, "It's certainly possible, an advanced force to scout out the Sphere, if they are they must have liked what they saw here"

"Keep an eye on them, see if there have been any unusual communications on New Valencia", Ian decided, the Dragoons were still a mystery after ten months of employment, a dangerous one.

Ian's hands came together as he decided, "We'll have this meeting, I want to know what this is all about"

Tharkad, Lyran Commonwealth
Great Assembly, Government House

Murmurs of voices carried around the cavernous room, the Estates General, the three hundred representatives of the Lyran people, elected by their respective planets, each member was required to place all their assets into trust, a safeguard against political corruption, in years past its power was little, but that had changed over time as more and more power was vested in them and taken from the Archon, right now being the biggest power grab to date.

Katrina watched from her place at the back, hours before she had taken the stand and declared her intent to oust Alessandro from power, something she thought would take months more to arrange but events had moved faster than anyone had anticipated, the FWL was running rampant in the Lyran heartland, Hesperus was heavily damaged, things had to change.

Her uncle had tried to kill her and her husband, only he could have had LOKI make that attempt, ever since she had a mission to rid the Commonwealth of petty and inept tyrants like him, taking power herself was the only option.

An angry Alessandro had stormed into the building hours later, summoned by the Estates General, she watched with a smirk from the background as events unfolded, "A petition of no confidence has been declared for Archon Steiner, we ask that he retires before he brings the whole Commonwealth to its knees"

It wasn't just the Estates General who wanted him gone, she made sure she had backing in the high command of the LCAF, Heimdall too, the people who had saved her life, they were backing her, LOKI was an open question, they would need to be examined carefully once she was Archon.

She had a front row seat as her poor uncle stormed out of the building and right into the high command of the Lyran Armed Forces, there to convince him his time was over, it was either way, his support was gone, all that was left was waiting for it to hit home.

"Katrina", a voice called her, she turned to see her husband Arthur waiting in the shadows, "There has been a strange development"

They retreated to an empty office, guards shadowed their movements, wary of attempts on their life, and guarded the door as they hurried inside, waiting there was their long-time friend Morgan Kell, he had been there for the assassination attempt and had hid with them as they pretended to be pirates to evade detection, he was also her husbands cousin.

"Kat", he smiled, "I see old Alessandro is on the way out, its only a matter of time now"

A cough came from Arthur, racking and wet, they had not escaped the attempt on their lives unscathed, while posing as pirates they had happened across a sealed SLDF bunker, one that was irradiated, they had only found out afterwards, now Arthur was living on borrowed time.

"Come sit", Morgan directed them to thee chairs on the side, "Did you tell her?", he asked Arthur.

A shake of the head was his response, "Alright then", Morgan ran a hand through his beard, "The other day one of our agents was approached, in broad daylight", he seemed perturbed, "I'll skip the boring bits, basically, they gave us freezers"

Katrina raised a delicate blonde eyebrow, "Heatsinks?"

Morgan laughed, "Yeah, not the kind you find in a kitchen but the full specs to build our own Star League double heat sinks, handed over, just like that"

"To Heimdall?", Katrina was confused, why do that.

Morgan nodded, "All they want in return is a meeting, with you, they even promised to give us a full Star League technical database, a memory core", the incredulity could be heard in his voice.

Katrina frowned, was this an elaborate attempt on her life again, lure her out with the promise of lostech, she had her fill of treasure hunting, it had already cost her too much, "Who are these people?"

"They called themselves the Terran Union, I cant find anything to link them to LOKI, I don't think its a ruse, they're sincere"

Katrina looked to Arthur, "What do you think?"

Arthur shrugged, "I have no idea, but they clearly know something about us, they must think you're a shoe in for Archon at least", he smiled, "I say we hear them out, its not an in person meeting, cant be sure if they'll follow up on this whole memory core thing though"

Katrina glanced back to Morgan, "The data, was it real?"

Kell nodded, "I had our best experts take a look, its real"

Katrins sat in thought, she was stuck waiting for events to play themselves out anyway, she could spare the time to talk to whoever this was, it might even give them access to technology not seen in centuries.

"I'll talk to them, when is this meeting?"

P4S-947
13th February 2066

Jack stepped from the climate controlled space station and into a scorching heat, a quick dial of the gate later and it was to a frigid cold morning, armed guards stood a good distance away, weapons trained on SG-1 as they exited the gate, the guns, modified staff weapons from the looks of it returned to the rest position as they saw who had come through, they had arranged matters before hand, no one really trusted this Syndicate just yet.

Jack cast his expert eye around the gate, wooden bunkers and earthen berms hemmed it in on all sides, he saw the barrel's of staff cannons poke out from the fortifications, the whole gate was a kill box, even behind the gate had guns and bunkers ready and that was just the stuff he could see.

A man approached as the gate disconnected, he was wearing what looked to be a uniform, home made probably but a uniform none the less, a far cry from what Kawalsky had described as men wearing leathers and bits of Jaffa armour, it was grey and black and had a leather section near the collar, where a clasp was, otherwise it was unadorned.

Jack examined the two armed men approaching with him, those were wearing leather, dyed black, and what seemed to be some kind of comms gear on their heads, they carried the same modified staff weapons as the rest, he took a moment to take a good look at one as they approached, a staff folded over with a stock and crude sights attached, probably more accurate than Jaffa then,

"You are Colonel O'Neill?", the man had come to a stop and asked, he was bigger when up close and bald, Jack could see the muscles bulge under his clothes, not that it meant much any more to him after the treatment, Jack could take all three on in hand to hand easily enough now.

"Yeah", he pointed to the rest, "Commander Carter, Daniel Jackson, Teal'c and Jolinar"

The man's eyebrow raised as he said the last two names, "You keep quite famous company Colonel, the former first prime of Apophis thought dead and the most wanted Tok'ra"

Jack smirked, "Someone's got to keep them out of trouble, so where's Ma'chello?

The man sighed, "This way, I am Dannic by the way"

Dannic led them down a dirt path towards a walled compound past the defences, it was as big as a largish town to his eyes, he glanced up as a Tel'tak came in for a landing further away, "Sharn had this facility constructed as a training centre and production facility for the Syndicate, he also trains those willing in engineering and technology"

Staff cannon poked out of towers dotting the wall, the road led through a large open gateway, more guards stood alert beside it checking the few dozen people shifitng goods from a landing pad to the side, hover carts loaded with golden Goa'uld boxes were being unloaded from the Tel'tak.

Dannic nodded to one, "The primary currency of all trade in Goa'uld space is naquadah in one form or another, followed by rare metals such as gold and silver, those wont buy much though, only things like food"

Jack remembered some recent history, when Earth started sending ships out in earnest to mine the many rocks in space, one of the early ones was a massive gold deposit on an asteroid, it had tanked the price of gold on the planet, it was dirt cheap nowadays, the Goa'uld didn't seem to bother with space mining though.

"Just food?", Daniel asked.

Dannic shrugged, "While most illegal trade on Lucia is primarily between lesser Goa'uld, Jaffa, humans and other wretches can buy primitive tools and other sundries on the trade worlds around Goa'uld space, most of that trade is in gold"

"The Syndicate earns most of its profit from facilitating the trade between the Goa'uld, we also sell our own product and provide protection to the less fortunate on Lucia and other worlds"

Jack translated, "Drugs and extortion right"

"Put bluntly yes, but things are changing now under Sharn's leadership, while he is content to let the old hierarchs run the Syndiate just like before he has created a new branch that the old one feeds, he is forming a new nation, one that will unite the masses against the oppression of the Goa'uld"

They passed through the gates and entered a well ordered street, wooden buildings were the norm but the occasional brick structure was present, they reminded Jack of late ninteenth century designs, warehouses and apartment buildings lined the streets, there was actually quite a big population, most of them Ma'chello's new soldiers.

Dannic pointed to a building as they passed, "Our new school, something illegal on most Goa'uld worlds, we will teach people science and engineering, they will be the workers and artisans, to make the weapons and ships to oppose the Goa'uld"

A building dominated the centre of the town, "Sharn's command centre", Antenna poked out of the building in the most anachronistic look Jack had seen to date, it was a wood and brick building, it was squat and looked tough, he spotted some firing slits on the walls and more staff cannons on the roof, those pointed towards the sky, anti air mounts?

They were led inside and past dozens of armed Lucians until they reached the top floor, Jack didn't know what to expect but it wasn't this, he imagined some kind of pre war office space, smoke and typewriters clacking away, what he got was Frankenstein's laboratory.

Machines were everywhere in the room, papers and data pads were strewn about, "Sharn, Colonel O'Neill and his team are here", Dannic announced, a large table dominated the room, bits of machinery and tools were piled on top and Ma'chello was crouched over something working away, it looked like a staff weapon.

"Ah, good", his tools were discarded as he stood up, "Please, come in", Ma'chello strode over to the waiting SG-1, "Welcome to New Dendred", Ma'chello stopped a few feet away and took in the team, "Yes, I remember you, Colonel O'Neill was it, I never did ask your name last time"

"Yeah, I'm still a bit sore about the whole pointing guns thing"

Ma'chello chuckled, "I am a slow man to trust Colonel, while you may have gifted me this body I felt it had strings attached, I would prefer to work for myself anyway, working for others would only cause issues"

Jack nodded, "Probably"

Ma'chello smiled, "Come", he directed them deeper into the room, past all the machinery and glowing lights, Jack glanced at his workbench as they passed, it was a staff weapon, halfway through a conversion to what he saw outside, Ma'chello brought them to a clearer room past the workshop, a table and several chairs were waiting there, the exact right amount too.

"Please, make yourselves comfortable", Ma'chello sat down in a leather backed armchair across from them, "Refreshments?", Dannic moved to the corner of the room, and wheeled over a tray with a carafe of water and several earthenware cups then moved to stand behind Ma'chello.

Jack poured a cup and took a sip, it was pretty good and not poisoned, "So, we're here, what did you want"

Ma'chello smirked, "All in due time Colonel", he glanced to Jolinar, "You are familiar to me, Jolinar, last time I looked your bounty was far greater than mine, the Tok'ra work with these people?"

Jolinar nodded, "I do, the Tok'ra owe these people a great debt but I was working with them before that, we are allies"

Ma'chello rubbed at his bearded face, "I have traded weapons to the Tok'ra in the past, if one Goa'uld wants to kill another all the better, never in person though but my old followers are now long gone", he spoke wistfully there then he looked at Teal'c.

"A first prime, strange for one of the Jaffa to fight with humans, tell me, what made you lose faith in your gods?"

A frown marred Teal'c face, wrinkles stretching around the gold brand on his forehead, he answered anyway, "I have long known the Goa'uld are false gods, when Cronus tore the symbiote from my father stomach and let him die in agony I knew the truth, I vowed to have my revenge, becoming first prime of Apophis was merely an avenue to achieving it"

Teal'c bowed his head towards Jack and the rest, "I saw much suffering during that time, suffering I was unable to prevent but when the opportunity to strike a blow against the Goa'uld arose I was quick to take it, my former master also leads a movement to free the Jaffa from Goa'uld control, you are not the only one with grievances against them"

Ma'chello gave Teal'c a solemn nod, "I see, I would like to meet your master, perhaps we can assist each other but for now let us get down to business", he faced Jack again, "Allow me to explain my position first Colonel"

"I wont bore you with my past but lets just say that my old methods were brutal and indiscriminate, they were also for the most part ineffective, Ares still lives, my planet and people devastated and my wife a puppet of some Goa'uld"

His head shook sadly, "A broken old man clinging on to life was what you found on that planet Colonel, but you gave me a new lease on it, one that I wont squander on reckless terrorist acts against the Goa'uld, no, I realised another way was the answer, to build up a force to oppose the Goa'uld, using the very slaves they think so little of, to forge a nation to fight for our freedom"

Ma'chello sighed, "Her name was Sharna, I call myself Sharn in her honour, she is still out there most likely, imprisoned in her own mind as a parasite controls her every action"

Jack nodded, "Sorry to hear that, planning on rescuing her?"

"If I can I will, but getting to her will be an issue on its own, one that I am not prepared to discuss right now", Ma'chello stated flatly, "I have more immediate concerns here", he waved to the workshop behind them, "You saw what I was working on Colonel, I watched you look"

"Yeah, a staff weapon"

Ma'chello nodded, "I am but one man Colonel, I could make a weapon for myself but nor for all my men, that would be the work of years, it is far easier to obtain staff weapons and modify them for our use"

He nodded to the guns carried by SG-1, "Different weapons than last time, energy weapons I believe?"

"Laser rifles", Jack answered.

"Hmm, and you were giving projectile weaponry to the people of Tarnath, weapons clearly produced by an industrial society, mass produced?"

Jack nodded, "Yep, we must have made millions of those things"

"I need weapons Colonel, weapons and other things that only worlds like yours can provide, I need teachers to train my men and the children here, tools, medicine, things I as one man cannot provide for everyone"

Jack rubbed at his chin, "What's in it for us?"

"Many things pass through Lucia Colonel, Goa'uld technology is one but more interesting to you perhaps will be gossip, information, the Syndicate has the largest intelligence network in Goa'uld space, larger than your Tok'ra friends, if perhaps not as highly placed"

Ma'chello smirked, "Many Goa'uld have loose lips around their slaves"

It was a good offer Jack admitted, access to a massive black market and reams of intel from all of Goa'uld space, they'd just need to ignore the drug dealing and other criminal acts, not like they never had before anyway, "Ships?"

Ma'chello shook his head, "No Ha'tak, the Goa'uld keep tight control over those but I have several plans to acquire my own, but smaller vessels, Tel'tak and other cargo transporters, those are obtainable"

The brass would go for it he knew, a few old guns and other equipment rusting away in some warehouse for access to Ma'chello and preventing the poor relations in the other universe with the Lucian alliance, plus the intel, he'd be a fool not to agree, not that it was his choice anyway.

"We're keeping our heads down, we're not ready to directly oppose the Goa'uld I want to make that clear, if we're going to help we're keeping who we are and where we're from a secret for now"

Ma'chello nodded, "I understand, the Goa'uld do not tolerate humans with more advanced technology than fire", he chuckled, "We wont pry into your secrets Colonel, but what will we call you?"

Jack shrugged, "Stargate Command, that works", he nodded to the open window, "You didn't trust us, we don't trust you but we can work together", Jack turned to Daniel, "Some APDD people to help teach the kids I suppose"

Daniel nodded, "Yeah, I have translated some more advanced text books into Goa'uld too, basic engineering stuff"

Ma'chello stood, "Details can come later, I'm sure you must communicate with your superiors", Ma'chello waved to Dannic, "Let our men know these people from Stargate Command have free access to the Syndicate", he nodded to Jack and raised the cup of water he was holding, "To a better future"

"A better future", Jack tipped his glass, if only they knew how to get there.

New Dallas System
17th January 3006 (14h February 2066)

All eyes were on the portal as the ships began to cross over, leading the way was the bulk of the McKenna's Pride, the venerable battleship would be well known to the locals of this reality, sitting in the refurbished command centre was a stone faced bald man, far more youthful than the last time he had been this close to home, he appeared to be in his mid fifties, General Aleksander Kerensky.

Trailing behind the Pride were two other former Star League ships, the Rondeau and Muraca an Essex and Lola class ships, they pushed forward to join their flagship as more ships appeared on the other side behind them.

The next to crest the portal was the massive form of a Minotaur class battleship, the Arizona, lead ship of the Union's second fleet under the command of Admiral James Borman, more ships followed along, Venus class cruisers, Fortress destroyers and Castle frigates, twenty three ships, all modern and armed to the teeth.

Training behind the combat ships came the marine assault ship Diana, a former Colonial Artemis class battlestar modified for planetary assaults, her marines had a different mission this time though, arrayed around her were several transport ships, the logistics for this operation.

"Sir, Admiral Drake is on the line"

"Put her on"

The holoprojector came to life and displayed a full sized version of the admiral, she saluted Kerensky, "General, glad you could come"

A small smile graced his lips, "Its good to come home, even if its not exactly the same one, how are the preparations?"

Drake nodded, her nearly white shoulder length blonde hair bobbed in the ponytail it was tied into, "Our agents have initiated contact with the three nations leaders, all have agreed to the meeting"

"Good, we'll deal with ComStars nascent fleet first", he looked to the comms officer, "Invite Admrial Borman to the conversion"

Moments later the Admiral appeared beside Drake, after the greetings they got down to business, "Admiral Borman will be handling the Ross system, while I take half the fleet and deal with Luyten, the inhabited planets in Ross are not our concern right now, only the fleet"

Kerensky stood and began to pace, "Capture the ships if possible, destroy them if not, our primary target however will be the orbital facilities in Luyten, of particular interest is the computer databased on this station"

As he spoke a new hologram appeared, a massive space station complete with docks was orbiting a habitable world in Luyten, "ComStars primary warship repair facility, apart from their Titan yards in Sol that is, the data there is important for our future operations, marines will board and capture it"

Kerensky turned back to the two Admirals, "We'll go into details during the briefing in two hours, but I want this operation wrapped up fast, we'll neuter ComStars fleet before they have time to activate it, phase two will follow on after"

The Admirals nodded and disappeared as the holoprojector shut down, Kerensky glanced to the side where a man was waiting, his son Nicholas.

"Are you prepared for this son, I have no issue with you returning to the retreat"

Nicholas nodded, "I can do more good here, not in the cockpit of a mech but by your side"

Kerensky smiled, he had been observing his son closely for the past year, watching for any sign of the madness that would lead to the clans, he was confident Nicholas had banished those demons from his mind, there was still the concern of his girlfriend though, Julia Cook, Kerensky knew who she really was, Jes Cole, he had people watching every move his son had made, recordings of their every encounter.

He knew that she really had no blame but her absence had allowed her to be turned into a scapegoat among the fleet, all the blame for the Clans had been placed at her feet, he had allowed it to deflect blame from Nicholas, what she had said to his son though, that had caused him to think deeply.

She was a Cameron, she admitted as much to Nicholas, Kerensky had gotten samples from the Retreat, check it against the data base, confirmed who she was, Jessica Cameron, distant cousin but a Cameron nonetheless, reports taken from the palace after it was recaptured said she had died with the rest in the throne room, her story was true.

He would allow their relationship to continue, hide her identity for now, she could be useful in the Unions plans to reform the Hegemony, a living Cameron would make any claims all the stronger, and she was devoted to his son.

He had asked to come along, he wanted to turn over a new leaf in his life and start a new career, not a mech pilot like before, but a commander in the fleet, Aleksander's position allowed him to come along, officially as his aide for now, his girlfriend too.

"I want you to attend the briefing with me Nicholas", Kerensky stood and stretched, "Come son, invite that woman of yours to a family dinner after, I would like to get to know her better"

Nice chapter , we are definetely reaching a certain level of escalation on the Ovions frontline . I may have question . If the Gildarans are at the edge of the Galaxy , does that mean they are closer to the Ovirions Frontline unless I am wrong .
It will be nice to have update on Goa'uld fleet and their strength . I have feeling things have changed since then .

Nice , the fight that definetely will happen not today but will be quite epic . I could see the previous war like Ovirons and Cylons or the IS and the Aschen as small conflict . The Alliance are definetely going to be the challenger against a galactic empire old of ten thousand years . Since Sokar , Apophis , Kronos and He'rur will be meaner and leaner when the conflict will still happens . What does it say from the rest of the system lords , or worse , Anubis ?
I'm sure he may have sent several observers to study the forces in the Goa'uld Sphere and so He might be keep a track about what happen to adapt his forces . The only problem is that if the TU have the intel they may or may not have the coordonates of several world belonging to Anubis and so they can start stealing stuff if they play smart .
Question : What is the specs of the modern Ha'tak and the super Ha'tak ? I don't see in the SB forum (which I'm no longer part of )

Chapter 47
Luyten 68-28
Several Hours Later

Once the heart of the Star Leagues intelligence gathering operations Luyten was now headquarters to the ComStar warship fleet, a massive cluster of stations orbited the lone habitable world while down below a ComStar training facility taught the agents of ROM their trade, a veritable secret city had sprung up in the two centuries since the Star League had collapsed, unknown to the Inner Sphere at large.

Floating serenely further away from the planet were the dark shapes of inactive ships, remnants of a more industrious time, dominating the pack were two of the newest ships, Faslane yard ships, produced in the very shipyards orbiting the planet, they were ComStar's take on the older Newgrange ships of the League, both ships were active and supporting the effort to restore the relics floating beside them.

Next in line was a fat bodied Potemkin class, a massive troop transporter, beside her and currently being worked on by the two Faslane ships were a Cameron class battle cruiser and a Sovetskii Soyuz class cruiser, crews were hard at work expediting the activation of the ships, word had spread of the disaster at New Dallas, ComStar needed ships right now.

A third Faslane was docked to the largest station over the world, taking on supplies and crew for the work currently underway, everything was in overdrive to get the ships ready in record time, not without the occasional accident or other incident.

Another cluster of ships floated further away, the smaller forms of thee Lola destroyers and a Vincent Corvette, behind them an Essex and up front and larger than the others two ancient Aegis class cruisers, Luyten contained half the ComStar fleet, none of it combat ready.

The activity had been observed, deep in the systems outer reaches a Union frigate had been keeping watch over everything, its subspace sensors giving the crew the full details of every thing happening in the system, its communications keeping the fleet back at New Dallas up to date in real time.

It was no surprise to the crew of that frigate when flashed began to light up space a small distance from the stations and ships, alarms began to blare across all the ComStar facilities in the system, the Union had arrived, right on top of them.

It had been surprising to all of ComStar's experts when the battle footage had been reviewed, how Union ships were executing in system jumps regardless of the local gravity conditions, no longer would they have days of warning if a ship jumped in at a standard point, or the hours of a pirate point, battle could be joined immediately.

It was even more surprising when the largest ship that arrived was known, famous even, the McKenna's Pride, ship of Aleksander Kerensky as he battled Amaris across the Sphere, the very same ship he had left the Sphere on to god knew where, jaws dropped when the name was reported to commanders in ComStar's bases.

The sense of unreality continued when a transmission was sent out from that same ship, one broadcasting to everyone in the system, "This is General Aleksander Kerensky to the ComStar forces in the system, I will only ask this once, surrender now or be destroyed", everyone knew that voice, every school child would have heard it when they were taught history, it was unmistakable.

………………………………………………………..

"Status of the enemy ships", Kerensky asked, they had divided the fleet for this operation, he had the Pride and his two other cruisers plus an additional two destroyers and eight frigates, while Borman had taken the two Venus cruisers and the rest of the destroyers and frigates, overkill for this operation in either case.

Still, a single ship would be vulnerable, he had watched the battle of New Dallas, if the ComStar fighters had held their fire, gotten closer, they could have achieved some damage, any single ship would be vulnerable to ASF swarm tactics, while he was by no means an expert on void combat years on the ship had taught him enough, they would stay in groups.

"No life signs on this cluster of ships", the sensor operator brought up the feed of the smaller cruisers and destroyers, "All of them are cold with zero activity"

The screen changed to the Faslane ships and their charges, "The yard ships are undocking, reading power being transferred to the engines"

Alarmed beeping came from another console, "Fighters launching from the station sir, sensors are also detecting drop ships undocking and launching from the surface"

"Show me"

The screen changed to show the stations, the small bright lights darting away were ASF, they milled around as more joined in and began to form up, flying in behind were drop ships, Achilles and Titans but also something new, Pentagons, five of began to burn towards them as other cargo drop ships started moving to their waiting jump ships at the nadir and zenith points.

"Sir, all fighters are carrying nuclear weapons, including the drop ships, they have capital missile launchers"

Kerensky nodded, that was unusual, according to the documents he had read pocket warships were still decades away, did ComStar modify those ships in record time?, not that it would matter, "Vampire, vampire, vampire, drop ships have launched missiles, killer whales"

One hundred megaton warheads, on their own not a threat but massed fire and the incoming fighters, it would add up, "All ships target those drop ships, laser cannons are to target those missiles, fire on my order"

"Targets locked sir"

Kerensky's finger lowered, "Fire"

The Pride was fresh from its latest refit, turret turned and tracked the approaching ships, energy glowed on the barrels of the weapons and a devastating barrage of pulse fire was unleashed, heavy pulse cannon bolts tore through the drop ships like tissue paper, none survived for more than a second, the Union was done playing around.

Laser fire joined in, the main laser batteries tracing the boosting missiles and erasing them, something that would have been unthinkable in the past but Union sensors were leagues ahead, heavy naval laser fire then began to target the fighters, forcing them into evasive manoeuvres.

"Drop ships destroyed sir"

"Keep suppressing those fighters, status of the other ships?"

Images popped up before him, "Yardships have undocked and are burning towards the jump points, the two cruisers are currently beginning to power their systems"

"Target those ships, ignore the yard ships for now", Some members of ComStar were supposedly civilians, the engineers and workers he supposed, there was no need to be indiscriminate.

"Targets locked sir"

"Fire"

The two cruisers, a Cameron and Sovetskii Soyuz, were just igniting their main drives when the pulse cannons fired, Kerensky's ships had jumped in only one hundred and fifty thousand kilometres away from the main concentration of ComStar forces, well within range, they had less than a second to even notice they had been fired upon, the near light speed particle bolts slammed home before the ships could move more than a few meters.

The effects were devastating, heavy particle bolts punched holes straight through the thick armour on the Cameron, over penetrating and punching out the other end, the ship lost power and spun lazily away, the Sovetskii Soyuz fared less well, shots slammed home right into the magazine, sending the ship up in a dazzling display as tons of fuel and explosives detonated, a cloud of debris and the engine block were all that was left.

More shots slammed into the Cameron, smaller cannons, the ablative armour resisted the first few shots, burning away and saving the remains of the ship, more followed the first few in though, punching through the degraded armour and setting the interior of the ship ablaze, it continued to drift, now a burning hulk as a few escape pods began to burst away.

He felt a slight tremor in the ship, the shields flared as a storm of laser fire impacted the ship, "Weapons fire from the orbital station sir", Kerensky glanced to his console, the shields barely moved, not even a percentage point of their strength.

More missiles began to launch towards them, from the stations, from launchers on the ground, naval ppc fire joined in and auto cannons as the stations unleashed a torrent of fire, all of it bounced off the shields of the ships under his command, completely ineffectual, these ships had the most modern designs, nearly on par with those of the Goa'uld, nothing ComStar had could hurt them.

Kerensky sighed, watching as the point defences began to engage the much reduced swarm of fighters, smaller missiles began to launch from them, explosions lighting up the planet below as they were intercepted, there were more than Drake had to contend with, hundreds of them, some even drones, relics of the Star League put into service for ComStar.

A few even managed to get through the defences, missiles impacted with the flashes of nuclear detonation, five megaton warheads, in the past a threat to ships, now, as useful as sharpened sticks against tanks, his ships shields were too powerful to even notice such low yield weapons in such small numbers.

Some of the pilots realised the futility of their actions, turning and burning to get away, Kerensky let them flee, they would have nowhere to run soon, "All fighters destroyed or retreating sir"

Tremors still ran through the ship as weapons fire impacted from the stations, the shields had dropped a whopping two percent from multiple nuclear strikes and weapons impacts, he recalled the battle over Abydos, how outmatched the Union fleet had been, the difference there though was that Terran nukes were powerful and the Goa'uld lacked decent point defence, something Union ships had in spades, they still had horrendous losses even then, this battle was the complete reverse, he had all the advantages.

He shook his head, they would need to take the stations intact, the Union wanted the data on them, proof of ComStar's malfeasance, data that they would use to discredit ComStar before the final push, "Have our cruisers and destroyers close and begin disarming those stations, lasers only we need them intact", his finger jabbed at the retreating drop ships and yard ships, "Detach our frigates to disable those ships, intact preferably"

As the orders flowed from his mouth he watches as the missiles just breaking atmosphere were lanced from existence by the lasers of a frigate, the long range weapon paired with subspace sensors made for a potent long range defence, especially against slow or large targets like those missiles, "Strikes against military targets on the planet are authorised, I want those launchers silenced"

He turned to the navigator, "Plot a jump to the nadir jump point, we'll deal with the jump ships ourselves", he steepled his fingers, "Comms, tell the Diana that phase two beginning, I want marines on those stations as soon as they are disarmed"

For the whole battle so far the Union ships had remained in the location they had jumped in, that changed now to the remaining ComStar commanders shock, ion drives kicked on and propelled the warships far beyond anything in their experience to date, from standing starts to hundreds of g's, the frigates and destroyers over took the fleeing fighters in second, content to still ignore them for now, and in moments were bearing down on the stations and fleeing ships.

Lasers lanced out, precisely aimed to removed the weapons systems of the orbiting stations, others lashed out and destroyed the defence satellites, more cast their targeting sensors towards the planet, tracing the paths of the anti orbital missiles as lasers lanced down and began to remove military bases and launchers.

While the frigates dealt with the planet the destroyers soon caught up to the fleeing yard ships and dropships, the Union wanted those intact and with the power disparity it was an accomplishable task, they didn't go without a fight though, naval ppc's struck out in anger as the destroyers rapidly approached, splashing off the shields to little effect, while auto cannons spat their deadly payloads, rounds bounced away like grains of sand off a glass sphere.

Smaller weapons joined in, missiles and lasers raged against the ships while the commanders felt a fear unlike any they had felt before, the weapons completely ineffective, their ships slow and trapped this far away from the jump point, all their resistance and given them nothing.

Return fire came from the destroyers when they drew alongside the ships, precise scanners targeted the exact location of the yard ships reactor, pulse lasers concentrated on that spot and burned a hole right through the armour and reactor, plasma vented for a second then the ships simply turned off, engines died and they continued to drift on their course.

The next ship suffered the same fate, then the drop ships seeing the writing on the wall as the Destroyers began to approach decided further resistance was futile, one by one they began to turn and slow down, signalling their surrender.

Kerensky saw it all from the command centre, everything had been executed perfectly, "Comms, signal New Dallas to begin phase two", he looked to the helm officer, "Jump"

The Pride vanished from its location near the planet and reappeared near the jumpships waiting at the nadir point, jump sails were already being pulled in when the ship appeared, they were preparing to run, three of the fifteen waiting there did just that, vanishing as they had already charged their engines of used a rare lithium fusion battery, the others were stuck however, sitting ducks before the best ship the Hegemony ever produced.

Kerensky relaxed back into his chair, "See if they want to surrender now", he spoke to the Captain of the ship, Mei Chen, she had been Rooks' shadow when he was in command and had now taken over now that he had a new ship, like all the crew she was a former Star League officer, she looked youthful for her forty eight years, one of the many benefits of the new treatment was the return of youthfulness to the elderly, it worked doubly well on the middle aged too, she didn't look a day over twenty five.

"If not, target their reactors and disable them"

Chen nodded, "Sir"

Kerensky looked to the system map displaying the whole battlespace, he saw a new icon appear near the planet, the Diana, the marines had arrived.

………………………………………………………………………

"Check your seals marines, I don't want any of you ugly bastards to die from something that stupid", Sergeant Brown shouted out in the cramped confines of the Skymarshall, Chad sighed and gave his vacuum combat armour another check, he'd rather not win a Darwin award today.

His armour was black with a full chest plate of a lightweight metal able to turn aside most bullets and resist energy weapons fire, his shoulders were covered and so where his arms, flexible joints allowed a full range of movement and the armour prevented sharp edges from tearing open the under suit and exposing him to vacuum.

Likewise his abdomen, waist and legs were also protected, more joints liked the separate parts of the suit to give the Light Combat amour full coverage, his boots contained magnetic soles and optional Velcro covers should he need them.

He nodded to Flint as his fellow marine checked his back and ensured everything was ready to go, Chad did the same for him a moment later, finally he picked up the helmet, fully enclosed with a small cutout where his eyes were, the armoured glass section there had a full spectrum sensor suite, giving him NV, IR, target highlighting and even radar returns, a visor could be slid down when doing external work to protect against the sun.

Placing the rounded helmet on his head at an angle he twisted it into position and sealed himself in, he felt the suit constrict around his body as air flooded the helmet, he was ready, Flint gave him a thumbs up as he connected to the squad battle net.

Brown walked around the cramped interior of the ship again, inspecting his platoon one last time, over a hundred marines were stuffed in the thirty meter long transport, hundreds more in the others that had launched from the Diana, Chad's ship was heading directly for the biggest station alongside others.

Brown moved to the front and began to motivate them again, "Remember, we're heading into a zero g station", his finger jabbed at the nearest marine, "Remember to keep your lunch down if you don't want a helmet full of puke"

They had spent he past week doing zero g training exercises, part and parcel of being an elite force he supposed, they got picked for all the jobs, he sighed, they needed to wear the full vacuum gear while boarding, even though it should be pressurised it was good practice just in case the hull was breached.

Lt Hope stood next to the Sergeant and produced a small holo projector, they had gone over the plan so many times now it was ingrained in his brain, this should be the last one, "Alright men, our priority targets are these locations", red dots began to flash on the projection, no one knew how accurate they were but plans had been found in the reams of data from Kerensky's fleet, from when the station had been used by the Star League.

"I'll be leading first and seconds squads to tackle the reactor room and command centre", he pointed them out, both were located near the top of the station, "First Sergeant Brown will take the other squads and assault the main data centre and hangar bay", he then began to point out locations on the outer hull, "Second and third platoons will be entering the station at these points, they'll begin clearing sweeps while we secure the objectives"

"Docking in thirty seconds, you jar heads better be ready", the voice of the pilot came over the speakers, he was safely stowed in the front of the craft, sealed off in his own pressurised compartment for when they needed to board the station.

Brown stood straight and began to shout, "Up and at em marines, Foster, Martinez get the cutting torches ready"

Chad felt the ship hit the station, a loud thunk sounding out in the confines of the transport, "Extending umbilical", the pilot announced, "Seals are good, pressure holding"

Brown strode over to the middle of the ship, he kicked open a hatch on the ground and leaned down and pulled a lever to open the boarding tube, a dirty looking airlock door greeted them, Brown nodded to the two marines with cutting gear and cleared out of the way.

Chad checked over his L-1 laser rifle one last time, then made sure the spare power packs were in his pockets, he was all set as the sounds of blowtorches and grinders came out of the hole, it took a minute before a voice called out, "Airlock's open, pressure is green on the other side"

"Go, go, go", Brown shouted out as marines began to climb through, Chad joined them, feeling the gravity of the ship vanished as he moved into the station, convenient hand holds lined the walls as he floated inside, eyes trained on the end of the corridor where a door barred further entry.

Brown floated closer to Williams as Chad kept a watch on the door, "Sergeant, take your squad to objective alpha, I'll take the other and secure the hangar bays for our reinforcements"

Things had changed since they had gotten back to Earth, Williams now sported sergeants stripes and was now in charge of the squad, there were also a whole load of new faces to go along with that, even Chad had gotten a promotion, he was now Lance Corporal Thompson.

"Sir", Williams nodded then waved the squad forward, already Lt Hope's squads had cleared the junction, pushing forward to the command centre, the station was eerily silent and looked dark and dingy, he remembered watching the old film Aliens once, the décor reminded him of that, retro futurism someone had called it.

It was strange floating down the corridors, red flashing lights greeted them in the corridors, alert stations he supposed, but the crew was absent, "Remember, there could be civvies on board, watch your fire", Williams said as they came upon another junction, this one a six way thing with up and down.

It was a good thing the walls were labelled in plain English, the corridors all looked the same, it would be easy to get confused, Brad consulted his tac pad, "We're going that way", he pointed up to the ceiling or floor, who knew.

After floating up a few decks they started to move deeper into the station, store rooms and bunks lined the corridor where they found the first signs of life, a barred door to someone's cabin, "Thermal shows them in there, looks like their hiding in the closet"

Chad frowned, "Even if its a civvie, we don't want anyone pupping up behind us"

Brad nodded, "Cut the lock", he said to Martinez.

The door was made of cheap thin metal, a contrast to the thick armour on the exterior, as soon as the blow torch touched the lock the door popped open, three marines floated in with guns drawn, clearing the room as Chad and Flint attempted to stack outside the closet door in zero g.

Chad nodded as Flint pulled it open, the barrel of his laser was shoved into a pale and thin man, sweat floated away from his head as his hands rose in fear, he spluttered out, "I surrender"

One of the other marines kept him under guard as Chad pulled out some plastic cuffs, "Sorry man, but your staying like this until we're done", he quickly bound his arms and legs before shoving him back into the closet.

"Civvie secured, sarge"

"Hope to third squad, requesting status update", the squad channel came alive.

"No resistance so far sir, we are nearing the objective, we should arrive shortly", Brad answered.

"Roger, we're running into heavy fire near the command centre, second squad also dealt with a scuttling attempt in the main reactor, be on the look out for demolition charges, over"

"Damn", Brad sighed, "Lets move"

They rounded two more corners before they ran into actual resistance, a barricade made up of what looked to be a table was blocking their progress, several dark forms were hiding behind it and when the first marine came around they opened fire.

To Chad it sounded akin to a paint gun being fired, a metallic twang completely unlike a normal gun, Fredrick's had been on point, he took several hits to the chest, each pushing him back slightly in the zero g before Martinez pulled him back into cover.

He was pale as he ran a hand over his chest, the paint had been scratched and scraped but not penetrated, still, a pool of blood was slowly drifting away from a joint on his shoulder, Chad saw a flake of plastic drifting in the air and grabbed it, he held up the projectile to get a better look, "Little spiky thing isn't it?"

"You OK man", Flint asked as the corpsman examined Fredrick's.

"Feels like a bug bite"

A Germanic voice spoke next, Gunther, the medic, "It put a hole clear through your arm", he pulled out a needle and unceremoniously jabbed it into the arm in question, "Beta Cantin, it'll stop the bleeding, now hold still while I patch your suit"

Chad tuned them out as Williams waved him to the corner, "Needler rifles, our armour should handle it, just watch for the joints", his finger jabbed towards the barricade, "Flash and charge, on three"

Chad nodded and pulled out a flashbang, they lacked real explosive weapons though, no one wanted them blowing holes in the station, beside him Sullivan and Zhang pulled out their own as well.

Brad raised three fingers and slowly counted them down, on three everyone threw them around the corner, Chad braced himself to stop from spinning as he gave it his best throw, loud bangs echoed powerfully in the confined space, alarmed shouts came from the ComStar goons ahead and the five marines pushed off with their feet and flew down the corridor.

Chad flipped himself half way there, already the enemy men had recovered enough to send a hail of inaccurate flechettes down range, he felt a sew slam into his boots, sticking into it like a pin cushion, he flew over the table and took out the first one with a high velocity boot to the head.

Lasers flashed in the tight space as Chad grabbed a handrail and turned around, there were five of them, wearing overalls and carrying weapons, they looked like dockworkers pressed into combat, still they were combatants and he raised his rifle and took another one out as his buddies finished the rest off.

The one he kicked smashed head first into the padded wall, dazed, the man had dropped his gun, Chad floated closer and quickly bound him and send him floating back towards the rest of the marines, Brad and Zhang floated closer as the rest began to slip past the barricade, "The computer room should be around the next corner", Brad noted after checking his pad.

Chad took a quick look around the corner, two dark shapes were waiting, gripping onto the wall and aiming guns towards them, he pulled his head back just in time as a pair of laser beams burned a hole in the wall.

"Shit, those fucks have armour, looks tough", he switched to thermals, "Looks like they're coming to us"

Brad nodded and waved the marines further back, Chad pressed himself against he wall and aimed his rifle down the corridor, his vision left him as a small ball floated around the corner, an enemy flashbang, his visor went opaque to save his vision as the sound wave was deadened by his helmet, still it was enough for them to get around the corner.

Lasers shot out, one catching Sullivan in the leg and blowing it clear off, the other seared Chad's shoulder, burning his inner layer to the skin but the armour held, a roar left his mouth as the marines opened up, beams flying out and riddling the two ComStar marines, armour boiled but they still fired back, less accurate this time, the shots only grazed Flint's chest and Brads leg, both were fine.

Chad's next shot burned through one of the fucks faceplates, he saw the interior become splashed with red, the other stopped firing as it's armour had been turned into a smoking wreck, the corpse floated away.

Chad grit his teeth as Sullivan screamed behind him, Gunther was quick to jab a needle into him to put him out, a tourniquet was tied around the missing leg as Gunther pulled out what looked like a small flame thrower and cauterized the stump, more Beta Cantin was injected, he turned to look at Brad as he worked, "He'll live"

Brad turned to Chad, "Hows the shoulder?"

Chad hissed as he touched it with his other hand, "Crispy", he pulled out his medkit and grabbed a dose of the wonder drug for himself, he injected it directly in the wound, already he could feel the pain lessen as his flesh knit itself back together.

He rolled his shoulder, "I'm green"

Brad nodded then turned to Gunther, "Stay here with Sullivan, Fredrick's, you too", he waved the rest of them forward, around the corner they found the door to the objective, a push of a button had it slide open and reveal a whole load of server racks and blinking lights.

"Flint, you're up"

Flint nodded and pulled off his backpack, he pulled out a small box with an antenna on top, wires came out of the back and Flint floated over to the nearest server and plugged them into an open port, "Uplink installed sir"

Brad nodded, "Foxtrot three one to Wolfs den, Objective is secure, uplink is online"

"Confirmed Foxtrot three one, beginning transfer now, good work", The voice of one of the Pride's officers spoke, mission accomplished he supposed.

"Right, tell Gunther to move everyone here, we need to secure this room until the upload is complete", Brad announced, he pointed to four of the marines, "You four, stand watch outside, fall back if you see enemy troops"

Chad sighed as he felt his ache, treatment and super drugs only did so much, he'd be in pain for a few hours at least, still, modern medicine was amazing stuff, he already had the full use of his arm back.

He reached up and unsealed his helmet, wiping the accumulated grime and sweat from his face, "Man, the air in here stinks, and I thought the Diana had a smell"

Brad chuckled, "Dont take your helmet off them", then proceeded to remove his own, "Damn, smells like mould and old feet in here, did they ever change the filters?"

"Lt Hope to first platoon, command centre is secure, the station is ours, hold position while second and third platoon perform a sweep for stragglers"

Chad pulled out his canteen and took a sip through the straw, "Zero G sucks man, I'm sticking to places with gravity from now on"

……………………………………………………………………….

"Download complete sir", Captain Chen spoke and broke Kerensky out of his thoughts.

The battle was over, the stations secure, losses had been minimal too, a total success, "See if the codes we have will work"

Chen nodded and sat down at a console, the ComStar data was encrypted, they'd need to either crack it or see if one of the many old Star League keys would work, but first they had another method, Vesar Kristofur had been very accommodating with the Union so far, a promise to release him after hostilities were over had led to him giving them all his access codes.

Including the decryption keys the head of ROM had access to, Chen was quick to bring them up on her console and a copy of the data on another, everyone smiled when the data unlocked before their eyes.

"Get copies to Union intel, I want a package prepared to give to the house lords by tomorrow", minus anything they didn't want them knowing just yet, "Contact Admiral Borman, I want an update on the Ross system"

Moments later the holo projector came to life with an image of Borman, "General" he nodded to Kerensky.

"Admiral, how were things in your system?"

Borman shrugged, "No damage to the fleet but we needed to destroy several of ComStars warships, another few decided to scuttle themselves than fall into our hands, I'll have the full list transmitted", Borman glanced down at something off screen, "The asteroid base was captured intact though, we did need to remove some troublesome turrets to let our forces land"

Kerensky glanced to the list as it came in over subspace, both Lola's the Black Lion and one of the Faslane's were gone, a few of the Essex class ships had been damaged too, still a good haul and useful for the next phase of the Inner Sphere plan, a glance to the tactical map on his own ship showed that the tug's they had brought along were already docked to the Faslane's and working to bring them to a stop.

If the crews would be a problem remained to be seen but he had no issues just venting the whole ship if it came down to it, he didn't want to deal with fanatics.

"We're steering clear of the two inhabited worlds, their domes are too fragile to risk anything"

Kerensky nodded, "They're not important anyway, just like the planet here, no point in conquering it right now when we can simply remove their ability to enter orbit"

Kerensky drummed his fingers on the armrest of his chair, all that was left was the clean up now, he had no plans to leave either system, both were the property of the Union from now on, he hoped ComStar would try and take them back, but he doubted they would be foolish enough to try, not when they saw how poorly the battle had gone for them, now it was time to completely discredit them.

"Good work Admiral, I'll leave you to secure the system", Kerensky gave him a nod and disconnected, tomorrow he'd need to deal with a different kind of battle, one that he hated with a passion, talking to the so called great lords of the Sphere.

Luyten System
18th January 3006 (15th February 2066)

All the arrangements had been made, with the house lords in question and in the infrastructure necessary to have this meeting across the vast distances separating everyone, the Union had spent the past few months placing satellites in the deep void between systems, sub space communication relays.

Technology had advanced fast, fast enough that brand new things like the HPG satellites that had strung between the Colonies and Union were already obsolete, replaced with a fewer number of greater bandwidth satellites using subspace, the old satellites would not be scrapped though, instead they would be taken to this universe, to start the beginnings of another system, everyone expected the current HPG stations operated by ComStar might become damaged in the next stage.

Those were for the locals to use, the subspace relays were exclusively for the Union forces operating in the Sphere, like today where the ships landed on the capital worlds of the three powers would relay the signals back to Kerensky, allowing a real time conversation between them.

Other preparations needed a more personal touch, Union intel personal had worked over time to check the data recovered from ComStar, anything the Union didn't want them knowing had been removed, it still contained a wealth of information, mostly about the crimes ComStar had been committing, couriers had been hired and dispatched earlier today to deliver data drives to each of the people he was about to talk to, encrypted for now, within was a copy of the New Dallas core as promised and the sanitised ComStar data.

Kerensky let out a breath as the first face connected to the channel, Janos Marik, complete with hideous forehead tattoo and long scraggly hair, Janos rubbed his goatee as the others connected, Katrina Steiner was next, the young woman seemed calm and composed and finally Ian Davion, muscular and alert, he leaned closer to the camera in curiosity.

"What are they doing here", Janos commented when the other two connected, his eyes narrowed when Kerensky himself joined, "Ha, is this a joke?"

"Its no joke Captain-General, I am Aleksander Kerensky"

Murmurs of surprise came from the other participants, he could hear scoffs coming from the people in the room with them too, loud enough to be picked up by the microphones, "Kerenksy left over two hundred years ago, its impossible", Davion mused, "You look too young"

Aleksander smiled, "The story is long and complicated, lets just say it involves some very esoteric technology to create portals", he nodded to them, "Part of why I wanted this meeting was to discuss future technology trades, including advanced life extension technology"

Janos leaned forward when he said that, "Really, I assume you gifted these others with the data core too?, I do notice several missing faces though"

How he hated them but needs must, "The Union doesn't feel that the Draconis Combine or the Capellans are reliable business partners, they are not people we can work with"

"What exactly do you want?", Katrina spoke.

"I want what the people of the Inner Sphere want, to stop the wars and rebuilt everything that was lost, I am now in a position to achieve that", his gaze locked on to her, "You can help achieve that, with our help we can elevate your nations to heights not even the Star League could have dreamed of, the Union posses technology vastly more advanced than anything else in this galaxy and we are willing to trade it to you"

They looked interested, that was something at least, "I assume there are conditions?", Davion asked.

Kerensky nodded, "Some", his finger raised, "I want to recreate the Hegemony", that got him considering looks, another finger raised, "ComStar is an enemy of mankind and must be destroyed"

Janos chuckled, "If only it were so easy, they would have been long gone", he nodded to the other two leaders, "I'm sure any of us or our ancestors would have loved to claim Terra and settle this debate long ago, unfortunately we would be crippling ourselves if we raised a finger against ComStar, you try to run a nation without communications"

"I am aware", Kerensky smiled, "However, I do have a solution to that problem, our own HPG network"

Janos spluttered as Katrina spoke, "You have your own network, where?"

Kerensky shrugged, "Just the beginning of one, how do you think we are talking right now, but we are willing to share HPG technology too"

That caused a reaction, he saw naked interest written on all of their faces, "We want to open trade with your nations, including selling things like warships and novel FTL methods that are far faster than current KF drives"

"Hmm, this sounds too good to be true", Janos rubbed his beard, "Then again, you do want control of all the old Hegemony worlds, that is quire the ask"

Kerensky shrugged, "Think on it, these are only the beginning of our negotiations after all, our more immediate concern however is ComStar, they attacked our portal in the New Dallas system with warships"

That caused a few raised eyebrows, ComStar having a warship fleet was a closely guarded secret, letting them know where the portal was a big of a calculated gamble too, "You'll find the full details on the data drives I had delivered today"

"The encrypted drives?", Katrina asked.

Kerensky nodded, "I have the decryption key right here, I'll display it on your screens now", he pressed a button and did just that, "You'll find the promised memory core data on there too but I ask you to examine all the data we have taken from ComStar, it will be enlightening"

Ian Davion looked off screen then turned back, "What about mechs?"

"We can sell those too Prince Davion, our industry is full intact and capable of producing tens of thousands if necessary, all we would need is buyers, the same for warships, we have models available for purchase and we are willing to sell components so you may make your own"

Ian Davion nodded, "I'll look over this data, if its real we'll owe you a great thanks General Kerensky, I do have one question though, the Dragoons, are they your men?"

Kerensky shook his head, "No, they are unaffiliated with the Union", they'd keep all talk of the clans and other things on the back burner for now, first they needed to open the door, "I'll let you know now, the ComStar data on those drives will be revealed to the public in two days, just so you are prepared"

"That bad, eh?", Janos smirked, "You wanted New Dallas General, if my experts tell me that all the data in that drive is real, consider it yours"

Kerensky bowed his head, "I understand this is all a lot to take in in one go, I ask you to review the data and agree to further meetings"

Katrina nodded, "If we confirm the data, then yes"

Davion shrugged, "I'm not opposed to a new trade partner if what you're saying is real, I agree"

Janos rubbed his chin, "I game Kerensky, if that is who you really are, we'll see"

"Two days time, that will give you enough time to look into things, until then", Kerensky disconnected, he felt drained and felt things could have gone much better, next time he 'd have a proper diplomat handle all the talking.

Excellent chapter , I love the space battle truly worthy of a true high scifi rule engagement . So the Pride have been upgraded up to date . I'm wondering if we are going to see a buffed-up Mckenna Class . I know the TU seemed to favor the more blocky architectural style of Colonial and other scifi novel . But a Mckenna built by the TU might be more monstruous and as badass . Since I get it wrong about the velocity of the particle bolt , they seemed to alway shot at what 99% of the speed of light wich implied that most of their damage is basically kinetic type unless they have a small portion of heat damage or radiation-type .
Yep, here the TU are kings in the Inner Sphere and let's hope it will keep it that way . They have better weapons , better range or shield . They might played the equivalent for the IS as a Covenant model in term of technological advancement and since most of IS have lost shipyard production , they are horribly screwed . I love the action on capturing the Yardship.
Definetely, some utility if we want to built specific type of ships meant to overhaul , repair and upgrading fleets . The TU will easly built something close to a mothership meant to do such task mentionned before added with automated mining ship to ensure a supply of materials . While the Vulcan might do fleet transport for a time , I could see it occupying more role once its system will get more polished .
At last , it was also well done for the boarding action and I love this light armor . Still this stuff I presumed is still on its development because one of their guy lost a leg . Oh well , with a lot of development coming around they might have now something to fix this leg of his . Beside they have goa'uld healing technology and organs production center now with the cylon tech . Building something akin close to a leg might not be difficult for them to produced . Althought , It does look like a mix between void-armor , the carapace armour or the Tau combat armor , It's not quite yet polished in term of technology but there is potential for further development . Still if they could make smaller production unit meant to produced tanks , armors , infantry weapons and all stuff useful for the land battle . Too bad , they don't have yet molecular-built level materials for they infantry technology . I remember in SG canon , they have managed to make ceramic plastic able to resist against staff weapon , and recently we have in IRL , we have now prototype of 3D printed titanium chainmail - see video below - , added with all technology they could have developed after 60 years and more incoming , with the ressource and scientific capabilities to all it entail . I presumed the TU could do suits flexible having both a multilayered composite of smart mesh tissus with capabilities to resolve against both kinetic damage and heat damage but also perfect as biological barrier and radiological system and still being light . And let's not forget on miniaturising energy system like cold fusion and shield and other integrated technology they might developed . I could definetely see something that could made for all armors in the grounder operation level far much more resistant
Where are they in term of medical technology ? Does they start to make leap in understand the healing devices and the sarcophagus technology ? The sarcophagus is psychotic only in prolonged use but those thing normally don't stay long if someone at least to do a purge after going a few times .
It was splendid the coup of Kelensky on convincing the targeted House to at least start listenning . And yes , every Comstar agent are now royally fucked with them being disclosed soon enough . The amount of Black ops done by this organization will bite them back with the ferocity of hundred billions mens and women angried by their bullshit . The rebirth of a Hegemony-sized buffer state might be beneficial if the Terran Union is willing to take their time to reeducate people to make them loyal of the TU and still being competent on their own so they may not suffer another fall . However , said rebirth might lead to the increased attention of hostile faction such as Combine , Capellan and the Clans . While the TU are immune to their fuckery , it will not the same case for their newly-acquired state . If they were given time like Decades or at least a century , things will be tended in their favors if they played their cards well .

Nice , so they have not yet having smart skinsuit or whatever might be a step below of power armor . Still , the armor have good resistance outside joint weakpoint . I presumed the soldier was shot on its joint so he lose a leg . It still leave some good equipement ready for further deployment and refinement and some ideas that could be integrated on the infantry aspect .
Any plans to take a page of the program Future Soldier , there were some auxiliary backpack meant to store batteries , ammo , foods . Here it could store reactor module depending on the armor class and allow for weapons capacitor to be charged . Did they not have neural technologies.
Anyway , the Alliance will soon have multiple ways of powering their infantry system . With technology such as fusion pack ( who are really close to Imperium battery style weither or not they have integrated power source or good heat recycler to catch all waste ( heat and radiation ) and converting them into energies ) or miniaturised cold fusion ( organic or crystalline or combinaison of both ) hot fusion reactor . Soon , they reaching close of full autonomous power system for individual units despite having no battle armor , protomech or other mechanised mobile infantry . With all of that , I can guarantee that the TU , the Colonials and the Aschen will soon have full projection with long-range and time capable soldiers that could be field with upgraded lasers , particle weapons or whatever they might developed . The potential of them being soon considered as a form of miniature eve online empires in term of industrial might can be impressive . Give them time and all the populations will grow up exponentially and still being able to move much more faster with room to spare . If the TU will released a transgalactic drive , I guaranteed the full expansion of those empire in every direction . We could maybe see one day of the birth of a transgalactic human communities empires that could work together to avoid a second Fall .

Since they didn't have yet the up-to-date Cylon Drive , I presumed that could be the second pursue the time that they will have intergalactic drive but then I'm wondering with all those FTL technology and several potential technological path . How much they could see utility in the thing such as the Alcubierre drive . I can see them using it for some potential if It has a utilitie that the other FTL drive didn't . Hyperdrive is purely pure long range but seem unfeasible for exploration ( It's not limited by road or Gravitationnal force but It definetely seemed to reach as quick as possible a location , We didn't see yet the abilities for a civilisation to change vector in hyperespace . (Personally to my headcannon , the Hyperdrive in the SG verse is a combining factors of Krasnikov tube , a highly modified phase drive with a ability to reduce distance seen in warp drive all using different subspace principle to allow the ship going faster and faster . The higher and complex those subspace field are , the more they have in term of speed) . Jump drive is all about quick positionning , It could perfectly work in a galactic scale . However contrary to the last two , they have limited range per jump and the speed and reloading rate could also play in favor of the Jump manoeuvrability and range .

Something like an Alcubierre drive would have a limited use case, mostly in the unmanned exploration probe and exploration ship fields, everything else just skips over the intervening space so having sensor platforms to catalogue everything while traveling at FTL speeds would be useful, disposable probes for military use maybe but actual military ships will stick to jump drives or hyperspace.

Okay ships will have intergalactic hyperdrive and jump drive for doing their stuff while drone and exploration ships will be used for alcubierre for max exploration . Since in that fan fic , the pulse weapons seemed to hit with high fractionnal C and the others weapons seemed to varied between thousands kilometers and tens thousand kilometers . I presumed that the only thing is left will be the mass of the particle cluster , its energy densities or its thermal energy for upgrading . I am terrified what could happens if say the Goa'uld furthermore compartimentalize the heavy guns and could put those thing in a regular Ha'tak . Of course , it will require either a new generation of power source or It will have a specific energy capacitor with slow firing rate like tens of seconds to shoot one of those hundred megatons blast .
What would that mean for weapons such as the Lantean Particle beam weapons or if they will have from a very long time , the asgard plasma beam ?
I have to say the Mckenna is for me one of the best design of a spaceship . I still hope the TU will start to produced those things with a huge modification . Same thing for the Yardships and the Leviathans Class (if there is plan to do it ) .

Chapter 48
Stargate Complex
Littlefield City, Heliopolis
16th February 2066

Weir stood along side the other ambassadors of the Alliance, there was a murmur of conversation in the open air of the stargate terminal as they waited for their new guests to arrive.

While the others chatted away she took in the facility, carefully disguised turrets lined the walls around the gate, the walls themselves separated the small plaza from the rest of the city, armoured vehicle warehouses and hangars were grouped up behind the gate, two towering metal monsters stood guard there too, mechs, they would shoot any invaders right in the back should they try to come.

Off to the side and mounted to the back of a truck was a large concrete plug, there should the iris ever fail, still with all the traffic the world saw it was mostly open anyway and today was no exception, two lines of marines were waiting in their parade uniforms, rifles held casually while they waited for the arrival.

Weir glanced down at her watch, "Should be any moment now"

"About time, I'm sick of standing in this wind", Ambassador Falco groused, Heliopolis was giving them the usual dreadful weather, biting cold wind and stinging freezing rain, she was glad the Union had decided to put a canopy over the terminal, it kept the worst of it out.

Angry shouting had her turn her head, as usual the two newest representatives had an argument over something again, the Bedrosian and Optrican ambassadors gave each other dark looks as others moved them away, neither were members of the Alliance just yet though.

Things had been progressing on that front somewhat, a ceasefire had been called while troops from both nations withdrew to their own territory, the Alliance had taken the lead on bringing a lasting peace to the world, a prerequisite for either joining the Alliance and benefiting from the technology and trade it would bring.

Enough progress that the negotiations had been moved to Heliopoils and were starting to turn into negotiations more concerned with their eventual membership, still, the two lead negotiators, Ambassador Calista from Bedrosia and Tarquin from Optrica were prone to flinging insults at one another, they were more prickly than even the Langarans, who tended to give each other the cold shoulder.

Another new face was standing off to the side, the representative from Hebridia, really he represented their major conglomerate though, TechCon, he was the most unusual looking person in the Forum building, even more so than the Nox woman, representative Kelamis was easy to spot with his lumpy forehead and strange bony temples, a Serrakin and Human hybrid.

The Hebridians weren't interested in joining the Alliance but they were interested in selling to them, Kelamis had a small office away from the main meeting ground, he tended to host visits from the various Alliance corporations interested in trade, especially those from the less developed worlds, unless they paid for it there would be no help from Hebridan.

Still, he came to greet the newest arrivals today, probably to get in early with his deals, he left Weirs mind as the gate began to spin, looks like it was showtime.

The marines got into position around the red carpet that had been rolled out, ready to salute the new arrivals, Weir and the other ambassadors got themselves ready and stood near the end, seconds later the gate whooshed to life, communications sent and clearance given, moments later the first of the Gilgaran party began to appear.

Soldiers were the first to step through, they wore blue uniforms with orange shoulder pads, open faced helmets with transparent face plates and what looked to be metallic backpacks, Weir had seen similar equipment before on Star League jump infantry that came with Kerensky, the four soldiers were also carrying small rifles, carbines she thought they were called.

The four looked around and must have radioed for the rest to come through, several more people followed them, all wearing what she assumed were civilian clothes, it all looked a bit cyberpunk to her though, the big colourful hair on the women drew her eye.

The party advanced down the red carpet excitedly looking around, most of them kept a wary gaze on the two Raptor mechs standing guard behind the gate though, so much so that one of them nearly tripped as they walked closer.

President Liora took the fore as the Gilgarans neared, "Greetings people of Gilgar and welcome to Heliopolis", she bowed at the hip while the rest of them settled for simple head nods.

The man smiled and bowed himself, "Thank you for having us, I am Ambassador Fenwick", he waved to his aides, "My staff" and another man, "Professor Algernon", and one last person, a woman with white hair and the most ridiculous outfit Weir had seen in some time, "And to record this for posterity a member of our media, Amanda Connor"

Liora smiled back, "Liora Ventnor, president of the Alliance Forum and representative of the planet Orban", she then began to introduce the rest of them which took a few minutes.

"Interesting machines", Fenwick said as the whole party began to move towards several waiting shuttles, "Much larger than our E-frames, probably not as agile I imagine"

Liora glanced to Weir, they were Union mechs, after all Heliopolis was Union world, "We call them battle mechs, those there are Raptors I believe, a sixty ton model", Weir spoke.

Fenwick rubbed his chin in interest, "I'm sure our soldiers would love a closer look but for now let us proceed to your Alliance building"

They had a lot to discuss too Weir mused, the Goa'uld, trade and technology but the one that stuck out in her mind the most was the most controversial topic, the Gilgaran's use of genetically engineered serfs, the Bionoids, that would need to be stopped if they wanted to move forward.

Unnamed System
10ly from Tellus

The system was barren, lacking in anything of value, it had all been absorbed long ago by the slow encroachment of a gas giant, sucking up all the smaller planets and asteroids as it drew ever closer to the local star, the massive planet was now a flaming ball of fire, nearly touching the star as it neared the end.

Cain paid all of that no mind though, instead he was in the hangar bay of the Pegasus staring at the ugly Terran ship, the Nightshade, the twenty meter long white rectangle was sitting docked in the landing bay, he had a good view of it from out of the inspection window, it tapered at the front to a cockpit he noted, with cowling at the back where normal engines had once been located, it reminded him of a bus for some reason.

He shrugged and walked back don the catwalk to the hangar bay proper where a crew of men was waiting to board the ship, the pilot and commander, Baxter, the Terran, he was deep in conversation with the Tellusian warrior, Tyler, probably explaining how the ship worked.

Beside them were some Colonial intel types and a few more of the local Tellusians there for transport back to their planet, a pile of boxes was on the floor by the airlock, crates of weapons and supplies being loaded onto the ship for the local resistance force.

Cain walked over to the two talking men, "Commander", he nodded to the Terran, their strange ranking structure took some time to get used to, Baxter would be the equivalent of a Colonel in Colonial service, "Tyler", Ham Tyler had worked for the Tellusian government before the Cylons came, some kind of special operations, he never told anyone his formal rank though.

Another man approached at the same time as Cain, the head of the Colonial part of this little operation, Major Thornton, "Major, all set?"

The wiry man nodded, "It's just a recon run and dropping off our friends here, we're still completely in the dark about these Visitors ships, this will be our first good look at them"

Cain nodded, "And all those armed men running around the ship are just for show", Ngala had foisted a whole platoon of exoskeleton armoured marines for the trip, the so called ARES suited troopers had been running up and down the ship since they arrived, preparing for when they were called on.

He wouldn't lie, they were impressive bits of gear, but if they would be enough for what was to come he didn't know, Greenhill was pretty ambitious with his ideas, he'd give the man that, Thornton shrugged, "If the opportunity presents itself Commander, the best way to get intel is directly from those with access after all, what better place than their own ships"

They'd brought along their best computer expert too, Cain didn't know what to make of the man, if he even was one, Leoben he called himself, a bio Cylon, a machine made man, he seemed friendly enough if a bit distant, time would tell if he could do the job.

Baxter took the chance to speak, "We'll be ready to leave in thirty minutes sir, we'll jump into the system behind the planets moon and cloak, we'll drop off mister Tyler and his men first while gathering all the data we can, afterwords we'll jump back and go over it"

Cain nodded and turned to Tyler, "What about you?"

Tyler frowned, "The resistance could have been destroyed after we fled, if there's anything left I'll find it, either way they'll need those supplies", he waved to the boxes being loaded, "I just hope this is the beginning of the end, it looks like your government is finally getting off its ass"

Cain harrumphed, "We'll see, those Visitors have a lot of ships sitting over your planet, unless they turn out to be completely useless at space combat I wouldn't hold out any hope for a quick resolution"

Cain shrugged, "I'll leave you gentlemen to it, its time I got back to the command centre"

He nodded to his XO when he got there, "Status Colonel"

Tolan shook his head, "No change sir, the system is completely empty", he pointed to the tactical plotter which was showing the systems surrounding Tellus, "Cylon traffic sir, the same amount of ships arriving and leaving hasn't changed since we arrived"

Cain nodded, thanks to the Visitor FTL drive being real space the subspace sensors could easily track them in the sector, it gave them a direction to go when they went looking for their planets, if this intel gathering op didn't pan out anyway.

"Keep an eye on it, let me know if any warships start coming", So far the ships detected had been small cargo transports around four hundred meters long each, the silhouettes had shown they were no combat craft, details on Tellus itself was sparse at this range though, they were still wary of Visitor detection if they moved closer.

Cain began inspecting the crew stations as they waited for the Nightshade to launch, his riding crop was quick to point out any deficiencies he saw, he ran a tight ship, always ready to leap into action at the slightest sign of the enemy, he made sure his crew was up to the task.

"Sir, the Nightshade is requesting permission to depart"

"Granted", he returned to the centre console and looked up at the sensor and camera screens, "May the gods be with them in that den of snakes"

The Nightshade soon vanished from the system, Cain nodded and turned to Tolan, "I want emergency combat drills running in the next hour, I want us prepared if we have to ride in to the rescue"

Tellus System

A flash of light deposited the Nightshade behind Tellus' large moon, Baxter was quick to activate the cloaking device, extending a field around the ship that rendered it invisible to most known sensors and visible light, where the ship had once been was now only empty space as far as other ships could tell.

"No signs we were detected", me muttered to his copilot for this mission, the Colonial Major Thornton, he had been given a crash course in operating some of the Nightshades systems and was already a qualified pilot on Colonial small craft.

Thornton let out a sigh of relief, "That's the first hurdle down, lest hope they don't spot us on the way in though"

Baxter nodded and plotted a course around the moon, "I'll bring us around, should take a few minutes though", the ships new gravity based engines were pretty slow, especially compared to more modern designs like the Ion engines cropping up everywhere.

A head poked through the open doorway to the cargo compartment, Ham Tyler, "We're there?, I thought it'd take longer", his body followed him in and he leaned on the back of Thornton's chair, "Yeah, that's the moon alright"

"Does it have a name?", Baxter asked offhandedly, his focus was on the passive sensor feed, going to active sensors would just give their position away, assuming that the Visitors used subspace ones, which according to the member of the Fifth Column the Colonials had, they did.

Tyler shrugged, "Everyone just calls it the moon, some egghead told me it was called Selene once"

Baxter nodded absently, he had studied the classics back in college, Selene was the Greek goddess of the moon, a strange difference when comparing it to the planet itself, Tellus was another name for the Roman goddess of the Earth, Terra, it must have been related to whatever Goa'uld brought them here he supposed.

"We'll be looking at her for another few minutes Mr Tyler, then another few hours to make landfall", Baxter turned to look at the man, "How are your men holding up?"

While Tyler had taken to space without issues others had suffered from the claustrophobia of being trapped in a tin can in space, some people had a hard time adjusting, Tyler shrugged, "They're keeping it together, they'll be happy to be on the ground again though"

Five other people were crammed into the back with all the gear destined for the Resistance, the Colonial marines had been left back on the Pegasus, the boarding mission was still a good bit away from happening, first they wanted to learn everything they could about the Visitors.

The intended use for Nightshade class ships once they entered production was as recon and spying ships, they would come equipped with the best the Union had in sensor technology, passive and active, the small cargo space in the rear intended for deploying small squads of spec ops soldiers on clandestine missions undetected, for now it would have to do for supplying the resistance on Tellus, without the gate though that support was going to be far more limited.

"Lets hope there's still a Resistance down there", Thornton said, "Will you be able to contact them?"

"Yeah, I set up cells all across the planet, some will have survived", Tyler rubbed his chin, "Our best bet is the Aurora continent, an old ex army Colonel runs a cell there, Colonel Smith, he'll still be kicking"

"We are about to come into view of the planet", a quiet voice announced, the cockpit had three stations, pilot, co pilot and the third off to the side operated the various intel gathering equipment on the ship, it was currently occupied by their computer expert, the Cylon Leoben.

Baxter didn't know what to make of the man, he was quiet and reserved, not the bloodthirsty images conjured up by Hollywood since the Velos had arrived, he was strange though, he tended to spout scripture when you engaged him in conversation, he especially seemed fond of prophecy's and destiny but it felt hollow, like he didn't believe it himself any more.

Still, he was competent at hacking computers and analysing encryption, he would be recording every transmission they could get from the Visitor ship to see what they could find, he was also an excellent navigator too, Baxter had even got him to agree to an arm wrestle after word had spread of how strong Cylons were, not strong enough was the answer, the treatment let Baxter handily win but not without effort.

He looked up as the planet began to appear, coming out from behind the moon as the ship sped on, "Looks nice", his eyes turned to the sensor feed, they were about to get their first proper look at Visitor ships.

"Detecting encrypted transmissions", Leoben announced, "I'll see what I can do"

Baxter took control of one of the cameras and zoomed in on the planet, the great grey bulk of a Visitor mothership was his target, he let the computer analyse the image, "I thought you said they were two clicks across?"

Thornton looked over at his screen, "Yeah, those were the first estimates based on talking with the locals, four or five is the new one after we looked at one ourselves"

"Four is right, those things are massive", The ship he was looking at dwarfed the city below it, those mother ships were probably a contender for the largest warships known to the Union so far, they out massed the Cylons own base ships by a considerable margin.

"Those look like turrets, similar in size to those on the Pegasus too", Thornton highlighted one of the many turrets on the top of the ship, "Too bad we cant go active and get more details"

The passive sensors weren't just seeing the numerous massive shapes sitting in atmosphere around the planet but thousands of smaller ships, fighters and shuttles ferrying soldiers and supplies from their carriers and to the planet, larger ships were coming out of warp in orbit too, a few four hundred meter long cargo ships, large spherical pods hung beneath the spine of those ships, a bridge sat on the front and engines took the rear, nothing out of the ordinary there.

"That's a lot of traffic", Thornton noted, he turned to Tyler, "Did you ever learn how many fighters those things carry?"

Tyler shook his head, "Nothing concrete, but from observation its thousands at least, fighters and shuttles", he nodded to the planet before them, "Aurora is that landmass on the left there"

Baxter looked up from the screen, the course he plotted was carrying them right into orbit of the world, the continent Tyler nodded to was the second largest of the three on the world, it sat near the northern half and looked like an enlarged rounded Australia.

"It'll be night there by the time we arrive", Baxter turned to Tyler, "You might as well get some rest, we're still a few hours away"

Tyler nodded and moved back into the cargo bay, "Leoben, any luck with their transmissions?"

"No, their encryption is quite advanced, it will take me some time to make headway", Waves and signals were racing across his screen, "We can however see the local broadcasts, for what they are worth"

Baxter shrugged, "Sure, bring one up"

The centre console screen changed to what appeared to be a local news broadcast, most of it was useless to them as it concerned local events but one item was interesting, "Government officials have signed a new treaty with the Visitors, one that will see the disbandment of the current Tellusian army and expand Visitor recruitment efforts, in exchange the Visitors will take up full time defence of the planet"

Baxter sighed, "What a load of crap, who would just hand over the keys of the planet to some aliens that showed up"

Thornton nodded, "Either collaborators or plants"

They'd need to speed things up lest the whole planet be brainwashed to the Visitor cause, Baxter only hoped there was something left to save when the time came.

Atreus, Free Worlds League
Captain-General's Office
19th January 3006 (16h February 2066)

Janos paced around the expansive office, thoughts swirled through his head as he worked off his excess energy, he came to a stop and looked at the map being projected in the centre of the room, an old map of the Hegemony superimposed over the current borders of the great houses.

The worlds were once valuable, they had been some of the most developed worlds in the whole Sphere bar Terra itself, but the constant conflict had reduced them to a shadow of their former selves, even to this day battle were fought over the remnants of the Hegemony.

It was a steep price for Kerensky, one that would take a lot of effort on his part to make happen too, but the value of those worlds wasn't what it once was, even so it would ruffle a lot of feathers to just hand them over.

His eyes traced the map to the planets above the League, for the Lyrans it might be a blessing in disguise, the Skye separatists had been causing them problems for some time now and many of their worlds were former Hegemony, giving them away could neuter them quite thoroughly, he would bet his favourite mech on Katrina being glad to be rid of the Lestrades.

His eye moved to the far side of the former Hegemony, he didn't really think much on the Davions, the League and the Suns didn't really interact much since other powers were in the way, their little spur of planets reaching to Terra was small compared to what the others would have to give up.

No, the biggest losers of this would be the other two powers, the Draconis Combine, who he didn't care about and the Capellan Confederation who he wished the worst upon, Maximilian would stand to lose the most of any of them, a thought which brought a smile to his face.

Kerensky had asked the three of them for those worlds, but not the other two, Janos had the feeling that Kerensky planned to simply take them, just how powerful was he, the data he had sent was impressive enough on its own, especially the footage of the warship combat, that had caused some uproar in his top command.

"Energy shields, jump drives that work in system and seem to recharge in minutes", he spoke aloud, even the fact he had warships at all made him a force to be contended with, another glaring issue was that he had no problem just handing over a data core with the keys to recovering the Leagues industry, it implied some things about this Union's own ability to produce.

A frown marred his face, that data had contained something of more immediate concern too, ComStar, he had skimmed the files, and that alone had painted a clear picture in his mind of what had been happening, Operation Holy Shroud said enough.

He wasn't fool enough to put the blame for the lack of recovery solely on ComStars shoulders, the nations of the Sphere had their own share of the blame, but ComStar had prevented any attempt at recovery from the pit that the Sphere had become, and that was just one of the things they had done.

No, the rot ran deeper, the ComStar data had shown him many things, like how his intelligence agency had been infiltrated by everyone, from ROM to even periphery agencies like the OAI, it was a joke that was about to be properly purged.

ComStar had been meticulous in their details, he knew the name of every plant, double agent and spy they had found, it wasn't all of them but it was enough to right that ship, then there was ComStar itself, he would love to have the FWLM march on every HPG station in the League but that would be a disaster.

Kerensky implied he had a solution though, more than access to these satellites he spoke of, the man must be planning something big, he turned as the door opened, Donna Ippoltio, the head of SAFE walked in, she wasn't as cocky now he noticed, instead she seemed drained and tired.

He waved her to the chair across from his desk and took his own seat, "So Director, is it done?"

She nodded, "Vetted troops and agents are handling it as we speak, we're taking it slow though so as not to spook some of the others, we're taking the ComStar agents first though", she ran a hand through her hair, "I also recalled our own agents from the Lyrans and Suns, the data compromised a lot of them too"

Janos nodded, he expected as much, Kerensky hadn't cared to hide what ComStar had learned about their own infiltration efforts in the data, even though it had clearly been sanitised somewhat, still, what was there was eye opening on its own.

"Good", he rubbed his chin, "He wants us to fight them", it was becoming clear that Kerensky planned on reducing or removing entirely the Capellans and Combine, why he didn't know but keeping them out of his little meeting spoke words to Janos, especially when a glance at the map showed who stood to lose the most.

"Who?"

His eyes locked on to hers, "Kerensky, or this Union he claims to represent, they don't like the Capellans and the Combine, all that talk of supplying weapons, warships, they need a target, one that I would have no problem reducing in size"

Another strange thing, no talk of restoring the Star League, was he waiting to reveal that?, did he no longer care?, was he even Kerensky or a fake, or even a clone being puppeted by unknown masters, Janos didn't really care in the end, if he delivered what he claimed he could the FWL could only benefit.

Tharkad, Lyran Commonwealth
Katrina Steiner's Residence

Arthur paced around the room, what Kerensky had said still spun around in her mind, advanced life extension technology, advanced medical technology, she saw the look he gave her, like he knew what was happening to Arthur, it lit a flare of hope in her heart, could he cure it?

Arthur too had been more alive after that meeting, he too felt a sliver of hope that his life might not be tragically cut short, she would broach the topic with Kerensky at the next meeting, there was much to discuss, especially the actions of ComStar.

The so called neutral party in this conflict, everyone suspected they read the messaged passed through the HPG's, they claimed to want to help rebuild the Sphere, directed by their founders vision, but help had never actually materialised, the near religious organisation was sitting on the knowledge of the Star League, of the Hegemony and had never even offered those things which would save lives, medicine, civilian machinery and tools, no their actions spoke louder than their words.

While none of the great houses had ever trusted them completely the scale of their malfeasance was staggering, far beyond what anyone even contemplated in the worst scenarios, they had kept the peoples of the Inner Sphere down, left to wallow in ignorance and poverty while the new class of priests gave lecturing sermons blaming the nations of the Sphere for all their woes.

She turned to the door as a man entered, Morgan, he had a light smile on his face as he took in the two of them, "Heimdall is looking into the ComStar agents in LOKI and the rest of the government, there's not much more we can do until you're Archon"

She nodded, his words brought another thought to her mind though, Janos Marik and Ian Davion were the leaders of their nations, on the day she received the first message she had begun to make her claim for Archon, why did Kerensky choose her?

How did he even know was another question, getting everything set up would have taken months, he would have had to choose her well in advance, why not court Alessandro, not his niece who had vanished for two years.

Kerensky knew more than he should be able to know, he must have known she would put herself forward for the Archonship, although she was favourite to take over since Alessandro had no children of his own and her own mother didn't want the job, it was still suspicious he could approach her, the whole situation was strange.

Morgan sat down in the empty chair and Arthur took a seat on the sofa in the corner, "I have our experts going over the technical data but I wanted to talk about something else first", he pulled out a data drive and plugged it into the holo projector on the wall.

What looked to be a BattleROM began to play, expect it was from the perspective of a warship, smaller windows showed feeds from its sensors and systems, it was firing on a more distant smaller ship, projected laser beams slashed out and hit a barrier several meters from the hull.

She saw what it was on another screen, the ships telescope had a zoomed in image as a blue tinged energy barrier sprang into existence where the lasers had struck, "Footage from ComStars battle with Kerensky, from one of the ships we didn't know they had, a Dante class", Morgan's voice held a tinge of anger.

He stood and began to point to the images, "I talked to a few people in the know about warship combat", he turned and smiled at her and Arthur, "Surprisingly that kind of expertise is hard to find, who knew", he pointed back at the screen, "Turns out that there's a bunch of historians who specialise in it"

"They told me what we're looking at is from the realm of fantasy", he shrugged, "Warship captains wet dreams was one description, energy shields, fast recharging jump drives that can work in gravity wells, targeting that cut right through the electronic countermeasures of ComStar", As he spoke his tone dropped, his concern showing through.

"We have nothing that can contest this", he waved to the images, "There was more stuff on the data drive he gave us too, did you know ComStar had a whole secret fleet, full of former Star League ships, well, they don't any more"

Katrina frowned, "How large of a fleet?"

"Nearly thirty warships", he sighed, "Kerensky's forces attacked them just before your meeting, they took out the whole lot without any casualties, including taking nuclear strikes on those shields of theirs without any damage", he shook his head, "They didn't care too much about not attacking jumpships either, he could cripple every nation in the Sphere easily enough without setting foot on the ground"

A pit began to form in her stomach as she thought out the implications of someone just up and destroying the transportation network of the Inner Sphere, billions or even trillions could die, nations would shatter and mankind would be reduced to a level not seen since before they left Terra, a nightmare come to life if it happened.

The sooner she became Archon the better, Kerensky had told them he planned to reveal what ComStar had done to the Sphere at large, could she use the disruption it was sure to cause to oust Alessandro sooner than planned, he could drag the process out for some time otherwise, she didn't plan on letting him stay around any longer than necessary.

New Avalon, Federated Suns
Royal Court, Ian Davion's Office

"I predict using the data we can begin reopening some of our abandoned production facilities as soon as two months from now", The Minister of Economic Development was saying, Ian was mostly tuning him out, this part of leadership always bored him to tears.

His mind was still going over the revelations of the data Kerensky had given them, particularly the copy of the memory core, it was set to revitalise the Federated Suns decrepit industry, contained within were the plans to some of the LosTech that had long since stopped being produced.

It was even full of ancient designs from the dawn of the Battlemech, things like the Swordsman, one of the Suns' early mechs, every detail of its deign and production had been contained in the data, but most importantly it contained all the educational material to begin training people in the basics.

Contrary to belief the nations of the Inner Sphere still had access to data from before the fall of the League, unfortunately however most of that data had become fragmented, something which now appeared to be direct sabotage by ComStar, still, they lacked the keys to fully understand just what they still did have, keys which had now been delivered.

Those old mech designs had given them something they sorely lacked plans for the machinery to build the machinery to make modern and advanced technology, to repair the many factories abandoned and ruined during the wars, to fix their industry.

"You know, if we upgraded the weapons and armour it'd make a handy garrison mech", Hanse saw the page open on his terminal, two of the old mechs of the Suns, the Swordsman and the Battleaxe, "It'd free up our better machines for front line duty, he's finished talking by the way"

Ian closed the terminal and looked up at the expectant face of the Minister, "Rebuilding those factories is our top priority, draw up a funding proposal Minister Edgar"

Edgar bowed, "Right away your highness", he shuffled out of the room leaving only Ian and Hanse, Director Thruston was busy rooting out the few ComStar moles in MIIO, not that they were as bad as SAFE, they had all shared a laugh after seeing how bad the agency had been infiltrated.

Ian turned to Hanse, "I don't have the mind to deal with the more boring parts of leadership, point me to a battlefield and let me fight in my mech, that's the kind of leadership I prefer"

Hanse shrugged, "The bad comes with the good", he moved to sit on the chair across from his desk, "Still, it seems to be all good news lately"

Ian nodded, "I've considered your proposal, a new science academy and research facility, consider it done"

That brought a smile to Hanse's face, "I already picked out a location, right beside the military academy, it'll be the most secure research facility in the whole Sphere"

Ian leaned back and turned on his terminal again, he brought up the holo projector with a map of the Suns, then zoomed in on the area in former Hegemony space, "I'm going to agree to Kerensky's terms, we stand to lose less than the others anyway in terms of sheer numbers"

He had thought long and hard about what Kerensky wanted, recreating the Hegemony was no small ask, and there was the Combine to consider too, they held the most of the former worlds, did Kerensky plan to take them by force?, it would be a golden opportunity if so, as long as they were ready.

Hanse nodded, "If we don't and the others did, well, I don't think we could win the next war"

Ian sighed, "That can wait though, we'll see if his trade offer pans out, warships could change everything, especially if the Combine doesn't have any"

Hanse rubbed his chin, "There wont be much left of the Capellan's if he takes those worlds, just a rump, I imagine the Marik's will be going all in there, if Keresnky demands we no longer fight each other"

"Hmm, there'll be more war before things settle down", he zoomed the map in on the one grey planet on the map, Terra, "I think he means to conquer Terra", Ian rubbed his chin, "Once the information about what they have done gets out no one will defend them, it'll be a free for all on the HPG stations too"

That could be a problem if not handled correctly, Ian would have forces in place in case the local precentors got any ideas about sabotaging the equipment too, losing communications in the Suns would cause a lot of damage.

"I saw his ships in action, even if we wanted we couldn't stop him", Hanse shrugged, "Better to be on the winning side"

Ian nodded, the Suns stood to gain a lot by siding with Kerensky, the memory core was only the beginning, first there were some preparations to make, he could even point the Eridani Light horse towards Kerensky, they might get along and improve his standing with the man, it would give him an in with any invasion of Terra too, and access to all of the secrets still there.

ComStar Headquarters
Hilton Head, Terra

The room was empty apart from one man, he was seated at the large desk near the back of the massive room, large bay windows behind him showed a beautiful vista of the Atlantic ocean as waves lapped at the beach below, grey clouds threatened rain in the near future, not that he cared.

His eyes focused on a spot on the far wall, he was deep in thought and dead to the rest of the world, a pair of designer sunglasses lay discarded on top of the desk, numerous papers and data disks were strewn about, left after being rifled through in a panic.

Tiepolo was a reserved man, prone to long bouts of planning and he liked everything orderly and neat, anyone who knew the man would be surprised by the mess on his desk, they would also note how the normally pale man now seemed as white as a blood drained corpse, propped up in a chair and left to rot.

Inside his fury warred with his mortal fear, what the hell had Kristofur been thinking, issuing an ultimatum to what now appeared to be the returned SLDF, while at a casual glance his three ships might had seemed superior he was outnumbered and as Julian found out after everything was already over, completely outmatched in technology.

His lips stayed still but his teeth clamped down on each other, he could only hope the fool had paid with his life for that hubris, and that was only the start of things going wrong, a meeting of the first circuit had happened once the surviving jump ships had returned and told of the battle, one they were still completely in the dark about at the time.

He had pushed to reactivate the fleet as soon as possible, everyone was in agreement, what else could they do, every member of the Com Guard militia had been called to action, mechs and soldiers now patrolled the streets and cities of Terra while ASF and armed drop ships patrolled the skies and orbit, waiting for the next shoe to drop, they no longer cared if the carrion lords found out at the time.

No further events had happened for the next five days, everyone had let out sighs of relief, feeling like any crisis had passed, perhaps Vesar had scared them off or did more damage than expected, then the jump ships had arrived and the HPG transmission from Ross, things had changed, badly.

Kerensky, his name was on everyone's lip, spoken in whispers, those ships had been unstoppable, eh watched live as nuclear missiles, lasers, particle bolts and even auto cannon shells had bounced off with no damage to his ships, energy shields, impossible technology brought to life in front of their very eyes.

Seeing the General of the SLDF was insane enough, he looked younger than he should too, speculation was rife s their nascent fleet was reduced to atoms, their two fleet yards captured before their very eyes, then the transmission had been cut.

They had every expert go over every iota of data they had, the results painted a bleak picture, invulnerable ships that could jump around like nothing before, total tactical and strategic supremacy, not even the Star League or Hegemony could contest those ships, nothing in ComStar's arsenal had a hope.

He saw their faces then, some frantic, some resigned, others holding out for some distant hope, the first circuit was in total shambles, completely useless in the face of an enemy no one could have predicted, a hint of mirth appeared on his face for an instant, what if they had actually helped to rebuild the Sphere, would it have made a difference, or would the house lords have just squandered it away with their incessant wars.

If the loss of the fleet was bad what happened next was worse, the FWL had long been infiltrated by ROM, the weakness of their intel agency had left the door wide open, so open infact that they could watch private discussions in Janos Marik's very office, so it came as no shock when they discovered he had a meeting planned with someone.

What did shock them was who it had been, Kerensky, as soon as the last shot had been fired he had opened communications with three of the house lords, what they discussed had silenced the first circuit completely when they found out, he wanted nothing less than the complete destruction of ComStar.

Hours later several of the precentors had vanished from Terra, gone who knows where, but Tiepolo knew there was nowhere safe to run, Kerensky knew the location of the fleet bases and if he didn't before he would know the location of every secret world and base owned by ComStar, soon everyone would know if what he told Janos was real.

There was no saving ComStar once that data became public, he could try and slow it down, order every HPG station shut down and sabotaged, but he suspected Kerensky wasn't lying when he told the lords about his own HPG network, word would spread, ComStar would be destroyed.

He half expected someone to rush into the room at any moment with word of an attack, by Kerensky or the others, it was only a matter of time before the end came, the only choice to lay down and let it happen or extract a price from them by fighting to the very end.

A sigh left his lips, he did believe truly in Blake's vision, of rebuilding the Sphere into a utopia where no man went without, no lords deciding things from on high, to achieve that the old powers had to be removed, their wars stopped, before they could climb out of the darkness they first needed to reach the bottom, ComStar would be there to build everything back up.

None of that would come to pass now, Kerensky clearly came from an industrial nation, one that was more advanced than anything else around or had come before, fighting them was a losing proposition, Kerensky didn't even need to lift a finger now, the others would come for them after their secrets were revealed.

It left him with two choices, watch ComStar burn and try to take everyone else down with them, a futile gesture, Kerensky and his Union would be unharmed and only stand to gain from everyone else's misfortune, or try something completely different and attempt to salvage something from the jaws of defeat, he didn't even consider fleeing.

To do that he had to make some hard decisions, some people needed to die, while most acolytes of ComStar held true to Blake's vision, the one told to the public anyway, some believed in it too much, that sharing knowledge would only bring ruin, that ComStar were the arbitrators and should horde and control all information.

Those believer's would need to be removed if his plan was to have any success, the door to the office opened and allowed the entry of the new precentor of ROM, the man who had headed the counter intel department, Mu/Delta, precentor Tojo Jarlath.

Tiepolo's eyes moved slowly to focus in on the young man, all the old fools had fled leaving only the young left to die in their stead, he sighed again, "Well?"

Jarlath bowed, "The list sir", he pulled out a data drive, "Everyone who would cause problems is on it"

Tiepolo nodded once, a lot of people were about to die, "You know what to do, try to keep it clean"

Not even precentors on other planets would be safe from this culling, while not everyone was on the list enough of them were, enough to prevent any problems from springing up, for the first time in hours Tiepolo leaned back in his chair, he had a solution, now all he needed to do was convince one man, before he told everyone.

"Call the HPG station, I want a transmission sent to Luyten, its time to talk to Kerensky"

You know . I alway have a good feeling everytime I was seeing a scifi recon mission in every fiction . It give a vibe mixing Splinter Cell , Mass Effect and other stuff as well . I think the step above of the Nightshade should be a recon-capital class akin to a Normandy meant to send paratroops and black ops operator to deal devastating blow behind the ennemy line . The thing in Stargate and some series is that contrary to the series like Mass Effect , Star Wars or the Warhammer 40k and other stuff is that their FTL worked literally everywhere . They don't have hyperspatiale road (they don't need it ) , they don't have a equivalent Relay who act like powerful chokepoint and they don't have problems like the Mandeville Point or they need to go outside the star system . They could jump in atmosphere or everywhere the moments they know the coordinate and the local stellar topography . Could we saw the specs of the Nighshade ? What was the aim of its objectives ? Its systems and if necesarry configuration ?
With Aschen Industrial tech coupled with automated construction and Asgard systems , the TU will definetely have the potential to become the Arsenal . With the previous Terran Hegemony territory integrated into it ( for a very long time ) if they have populations . The productions will massively increased when Shit will hit the fan once they make direct approach on the Goa'uld .

McKenna's Pride
Kerensky's Office

While the battle had been swift and bloodless, on their side anyway and not counting some casualties among the boarding parties, it still generated a massive amount of paper work that he was still going over, Kenensky sat back with a sigh and stretched his back from hours of writing and reading reports.

Outside the ship a mobile ship repair platform had arrived and begun to ferry the still intact ships out of the system, the Union had no need for the ships and were only interested in studying some of the systems on the Faslane class, the rest of them would be repaired to functionality and gifted to the three nations chosen by the Union, the only ships the Union would keep permanently were the Potemkin and Volga, even the Faslanes would be gifted when the Union was done with them.

The numbers of captured ships actually split up nicely, each of them would receive five warships each, enough for them to start reforming their space forces and open the door to the Union selling them more.

He focused back on his screen as reports scrolled by, they had finished evacuating the stations in orbit of the planet, the Union had no use for them and would prefer to build their own stations if they had to, ones built from the ground up to take advantage of things like artificial gravity, he'd leave the stations be just in case they were needed, however remote that possibility was.

He turned off the computer after reading his fill, the battles here and in Ross had been beyond successful, so much so that plans were being fast tracked, plans to take Terra from ComStar, already troops ships were on the way and would be coming through the portal soon, it would be a bloody fight though, nothing like the success they just had.

He wasnt sure the Union ground forces were ready for such a fight, to alleviate some of the strain though he planned on reaching out to the Suns, Lyrans and FWL, that was what the warships were for, to bribe them into helping conquer the planet, he'd need more than the Union had right now to have any hope of success, not without mass civilian casualties.

That wasn't to say that Union Earth was lacking in combat forces, they probably had more men under arms than any other planet, but fighting mechs in pre space flight tanks and armoured vehicles was a recipe for disaster, while steps had been taken to modernise the ground forces most of the money went to the fleet, understandable really, when considering the Goa'uld only had Jaffa to fight on the ground, but the Inner Sphere was a different story.

Things were changing though, the portal had seen to that, mech production had increased from the bare minimum it was before, things like the Cadet and Raptor had entered full production, to sell in the Sphere and to the Unions allies and also to re-equip the various national armies on Earth, alongside the mechs new tanks and vehicles were exiting the factories, the Union had settled on a modified copy of the Manticore for its premier vehicle going forward.

Instead of a PPC it came equipped with a kobolium enhanced coil gun able to put rounds through heavy mechs in one shot with a variety of special munitions available, it was a powerful vehicle and it retained the missile launchers while replaceing the medium laser with a pulse variant, he would love to have some right now but they were still being tested and wouldn't be available for weeks at least.

A shrill beeping distracted him from his thoughts, reaching over he hit receive on the intercom, "Kerensky here"

"General", It was Captain Chen, her voice held a strong note of confusion, "We just received a transmission via HPG, its from ComStar"

Kerensky's eyebrow shot up, why the hell would ComStar be calling, the books painted them as fanatics who would fight to the last, who would create the Word of Blake that launched a jihad, who had worked to systematically cripple any attempt to drag the Sphere out of the dark age it had fallen into, and now they wanted to talk?

"What did it say?"

"The Primus of ComStar wants to talk to you, right now"

Kerensky's hand rubbed his chin as he considered what he had been told, was there actually a sane man on Terra, if he could take out ComStar without having to fight on the planet that would be ideal, on the other hand ComStar had to go, he couldn't accept anything less than total unconditional surrender.

He shrugged, it wouldn't cost him anything to see what this was all about, "Alright, tell them I accept", he'd need an expert for this, "Kindly inform our diplomatic expert to join me too", Damian Perez was the man the Council had sent him, while Kerensky had full authority to act in the Unions stead he'd prefer to leave the actual diplomacy to the experts, he had enough of it dealing with the aftermath of the war.

"Yes sir", she replied before the line went dead, Kerensky sat in thought for the next few minutes as arrangements were made, he nodded to Perez when he arrived and directed him to sit in the chair across from his desk, soon enough a new face appeared on his screen, Julian Tiepolo, Primus of ComStar.

He looked tired, a man at the bottom of the barrel, his skin was pale and his face tight while dry bloodshot eyes took in Kerensky, "General, thank you for taking the call"

Kerensky nodded, "Primus Tiepolo I presume, to what do I owe the pleasure", he'd keep things polite for now, if he could save a few lives with words then so be it.

Tieplol bowed his head, "I want to end this conflict General, I know how outmatched we are", he locked eyes on Kerensky, "Taking Terra will be a costly endeavour even with your advanced technology, so I want to reach an alternate solution"

"My governments position is firm, we want Terra and ComStar needs to go"

A faint smile lit Tiepolo's lips, "I gathered as much from your conversation with the three lords, still, if you reveal the data you obtained it will lead to countless people losing their lives, think of the damage that will be caused when angry people take to the streets, when the HPG network goes dark"

Kerensky frowned, he had thought those very same thoughts, "That doesn't change my position and if I don't follow through the leaders of the Suns, Lyrans and Free worlds League will take your stations anyway, its too late to put the genie back in the bottle"

Tiepolo nodded, "I understand General, all I ask is that we save what we can, I'm offering you the keys to Terra"

Kerensky glanced to Perez, the man nodded, "We wont get a better chance to avoid fighting on the world", he whispered.

Kerensky sat back and rubbed his chin, "I want ComStar's total surrender, if you give me that we'll see what we can salvage from the organisation, I'll also refrain from revealing your secrets to the public at large for now"

He could bribe the others with the ships to keep quiet for now, "That can be arranged General", Tiepolo was speaking but Kerensky's mind was whirling, things needed to happen fast if it was to happen at all.

"Hold that thought Primus", he muted his microphone and reached over to the intercom, "Captain, how long until the 316th arrive?"

"Two hours General"

Kerensky turned off the intercom and re-enabled the microphone, "Primus, how soon can you prepare for our arrival"

Tiepolo looked surprised, "What?", he shook himself into composure, "I'm rooting out the most unreasonable members of ComStar right now, Hilton Head is already cleared though, the rest of the planet will take weeks"

"Three hours Primus", Kerensky jabbed at the screen, "If you want to save as much of ComStar as you can you will be ready"

Tiepolo looked unsure but nodded, "We'll be ready, what are you intending?"

"I'm going to make an announcement, to the whole Sphere, the Hegemony is coming back starting with Terra", Kerensky nodded to Tiepolo, "ComStar's days of being the sole provider of communications is over however, what left can be turned to providing civilian communications though, other parts will have to be separated too, like your Com Guard and ROM"

Tiepolo's mouth stayed tight lipped, it thinned into a line as his head slumped, "I understand, three hours, I'll inform the defence forces of your arrival"

Kerensky bored into the man, "You want to know who we are right, if I'm actually Kerensky or an imposter, you have my DNA on file, the DNA of the Camerons?"

Tiepolo nodded, "Good, have a medic on standby, I'll explain everything to you", Kerensky stared Tiepolo right in the eye, "In four hours from now I want a conference call with the leaders of the Suns, Lyrans and League, I'm going to explain to every one of you who we are and what we represent, can you arrange that, after that we'll make an announcement to the rest of the Sphere, about the return of General Kerensky and the Hegemony, of the rebirth of the Inner Sphere"

Tiepolo looked to be stunned but he eventually spoke, "I'll make it happen, but what of the Star League?, are you not bringing that back?"

Kerensky shook his head, "The League is dead, attempting to keep it alive is what led to where you are now, fighting over scraps long since rotten, I've already seen the path were they tried to return the Star League, it ended in tragedy, no, something new is needed"

Tiepolo nodded and soon disappeared from the screen and Kerensky turned to Perez, "I don't trust him, or ComStar, still if he is telling the truth its worth pursuing"

Perez shrugged, "Its your call General, better a bloodless handover than a planet wide fight"

Kerensky nodded then hit the intercom again, "New orders for the fleet Captain, we're going to Terra, assign a ship to guard the system and inform Admiral Borman, it's time to end this", he paused for a moment, "And tell my son to come to my office"

Julian stood in the command centre of the island when the ships began to appear just beyond orbit of the planet, dozens of warships with two large ones leading from the front, all displayed in crystal clarity on the screens.

At the head of the formation was the Pride, even its transponder matched what they had on file for Kerensky's old ship, modifications had been done, that much was clear but it was clear to everyone it was the real deal.

Beside her was a slightly shorter but much wider ship, it had an alligator shaped front and was far more solid and beefy looking compared to the Star League typical cylindrical ships, numerous turrets lined the hull both big and small plus some huge missile bays, Julian dreaded what monstrous weapons must be contained within.

Two more recognisable designs floated in escort beside the Pride, an Essex and a Lola, both had transponders which reported them as the Star League ships Muraca and Rondeau, ships that had vanished with Kerensky over two centuries ago, behind them came an assortment of other bulky squarish ships, massive seven hundred long cruisers and smaller destroyers and positioned around the whole fleet were small frigates barely bigger than the biggest drop ships.

Sitting right in the middle of the formation was a carrier looking vessel with two massive launch bays, one on either side, it too had a triangular shaped front like the other large ship, beside it was a more recognisable ship, a Potemkin troop ship, Julian thought it was the one in ComStars inventory until recently but the transponder code reported a different ship, the SLS Abyssal, another ship that vanished with Kerensky.

The warships had stunned every ship in near earth orbit, jumping in outside the pirate point, Kerensky had asked him to clear the area before hand though so no accidents happened but the demonstration of the Unions advanced technology was clear, especially when the drop ships began to jump in, Leopard and Triumph classes by visuals but there was no way they could be standard ships.

Then they moved, fast enough that anyone inside should have been turned to paste, he heard shocked gasps from the others in the room, those who understood the intricacies of space travel, no ship had ever accelerated as fast as those dropships, he frowned when even more detached from the Potekemin, more familiar designs, rare designs like the massive Colossus and Lee he could see beginning to burn towards the planet.

"Primus, the ships are requesting landing instructions", one of the operators of the restricted airspace around Hilton Head asked.

"They are cleared to land on the island, guide them in"

Julian tore his eyes from the screen, what he saw had cemented his chosen course, trying to oppose the forces under Kerensky would be futile, even more so when every carrion lord joined in to grab a share of the spoils, he turned to Tojo Jarlath who stood beside him, "Have you vetted everyone here?"

Jarlath nodded, "I made sure everyone on the island is loyal, there wont be any problems", Tojo had to rush to do it, Kerensky's decision to come here right now came as a surprise, Tiepolo personally knew the commander of the militia force so he wasn't expecting any problems from that direction.

"Uh, sir", the sensor technician pointed at the screen with a gaping mouth, "One of the warships is approaching the planet"

Tiepolo spun to see what he was talking about, one of the smaller ships, a corvette some two hundred and twenty meters long was keeping pace with the approaching drop ships, everyone in the room turned to watch slack jawed as it began to enter the atmosphere alongside them.

"Is he mad!", Jarlath exclaimed, "Its going to crash into the ground"

Julian could only nod, he was seconds from calling for the SDS systems to try and intercept before it ploughed into the island, there was no way a ship with the engines on the back like a warship, no wings like an aerodyne could land safely.

Spheroid dropships worked because their engines could keep them aloft, it was why they were mounted on the underside of those ships, aerodyne dropships could maneuver and land like classic aircraft, but a warship?, his eyes widened when it began to slow contrary to all expectations.

"Its slowing?", a confused voice questioned, somehow it was staying in formation with the dropships, all of them on a direct course for the island, "ETA five minutes"

Julian shook his head, that was far faster than anything he had seen before, any normal ship trying to come in that fast would have been burnt to a cinder, "Come, I want to see this in person"

A convenient stairway led to the roof of the control building, it gave him a clear view of the skies, grey and cloudy as they were, "Tell the Militia to get ready, our guests will be here soon", he told Tojo as he kept a sharp eye on the clouds above.

Below on the space port of the facility he saw two lances of the Com Guard Militia stomp out of their hangars, armed with a mix of Crockett, Archer and Thug mechs, all painted in the bright white ComStar official livery with the ComStar symbol painted clearly on the chest plates and sides of the mechs, they moved into position to act as honour guard, smaller vehicles and men were swarming the tarmac preparing barriers and some enterprising acolyte had even procured a massive red carpet.

"Look", Jarlath pointed to the clouds above, Julian followed the finger to see another strange sight, instead of drop ships blasting through the cloud cover on plumes of fusion thrust the ships were gently pushing through, his jaw dropped again as they stopped in mid air and gently began to touch down on the landing strip.

Then another shadow loomed overhead, the warship pushed through the cloud cover and just sat there, hundreds of thousands of tons of metal just sitting in mid air, he could faintly hear a humming noise coming from the ship but there were no obvious signs of what was keeping it aloft.

"Lets go", Julian turned and raced down the stairs, a car was waiting to take him and Jarlath to the landing strip, they sat in silence as the vehicle took them to their destination, both had their faces glues to the windows as they looked at the hovering ship.

When they exited they found everyone else was doing the same thing, shocked faces watched in confusion as the laws of reality were broken in front of their faces, he heard whispers of anti gravity carry on the wind, really, considering what he had seen so far he should have expected it.

Ramps started to lower on the landed ships, mechs began to trundle down, all classic Star League designs apart from one, a mech with reverse jointed legs and two arm mounted cannons of some type, "The 316th royal battlemech division", Jarlath noted when he saw the emblem on one of the mechs.

Sweat beaded on his forehead despite the winter weather as he took in the dozens upon dozens of mechs that started to pound down the ramps, his militia force was badly outnumbered, even if they could fight with a warships hanging directly over their heads, a division indeed, behind the mechs came APC's and tanks, all full loaded and ready, and lined up across from him.

A high pitched whine caused him to glance up as a smaller craft came in for a landing, the sounds of ASF peeling off could be heard above the clouds as it gently came in and landed right at the end of the rolled out carpet, it was boxy and looked to be thirty meters long, a large shuttle he assumed.

The ramp dropped to the ground and men descended, men wearing power armour by the looks of things and carrying laser rifles, they moved to the side and created a path of two lines for the man following them down to travel through, the few militia infantry with Julian stood at parade attention as Kerensky and a few of his officers approached.

"Primus Tiepolo", Kerensky nodded, "Do you have the medic, I'd like to get the test out of the way first"

Tiepolo nodded and waved a nervous young female acolyte forward, she bowed to Kerensky and opened a small pack containing everything a phlebotomist would need, Kerensky gave her a look over before pulling back the sleeve of his uniform.

As the blood was drawn Julian observed the soldiers standing guard beside Kerensky, it all appeared to be standard Star League equipment, even the uniforms, except for the addition of a new patch, one that resembled the old United Nations flag, "I want the results ready for the meeting", Keresnky told the acolyte before turning to Julian.

"I assume you can test for clones Primus, I'd hate for all that to be for nothing"

Julian nodded, "Of course", he waved to Jarlath, "Precentor ROM, Tojo Jarlath"

Kerensky observed the man for a moment, "Kristofur's replacement I take it", he introduced his companions next, a man resembling a less bald Kerensky and a red haired woman, "Nicholas my son and his companion, Julia Cook"

"A pleasure", he shook hands, the woman seemed unsure though, like she was wondering why she was there, Nicholas however had a strong grip, he was fully confident in himself if Julian was any judge.

"My men will be taking control of the island now Primus, please ask your men to stand down", Kerensky spoke, Julian knew this was coming, it was obvious after the amount of hardware and men that had just arrived.

"Very well General", Julian bowed to him, "I formally offer the unconditional surrender of ComStar to you"

"Accepted", Kerensky grunted, "Now, lets get out of this wind, we have a lot to discuss and too little time"

Aschen Prime
Kraelion City, Supreme Court Complex

Renata sat at the back of the courtroom as everyone else filed in, beside her was Kynes, he had taken the role of deputy chief minister in the newly reformed government, a big improvement over his previous post as Minister of Communications.

Cyrlen, the new Chief minister, was seated near the front where the vastly increasing private media organisations of the confederation could see her in attendance, Renata could do without the publicity, she was far too old to deal with that kind of stuff.

Across the aisle from her were the foreign representatives, they were wearing a variety of strange to her eyes styles of clothing, standard grey attire was good enough for her but since the war had ended she was seeing a change in the fashion of the Confederation, new styles copied from places like the Union and the Colonies of Kobol were becoming popular, the under class strived to express themselves now they were free of the yoke of Vex and the enforced conformity.

The Aschen populace was completely unprepared for the cultural offensive from the Union after the end of the war, she had studied them extensively and there was one field where they dominated everyone else, entertainment media, their films and books and games blew everyone else's out of the water, Aschen screens were now showing broadcasts of Terran entertainment, translated of course, their culture was insidious and contagious, she rubbed her chin, and fun, even she was getting addicted.

It did have a knock on effect, the fashion change was just a more noticeable part, the Aschen were changing, it remained to be seen where it would lead.

Her eyes turned to the Terran ambassador to the Confederation, a wiry man wearing a well tailored suit with salt and pepper hair, in another life she might have pursued a relationship, but all of that was long since passed for her, her time now was spent preparing the defence forces for the rigours of the hostile galaxy around them.

Monroe Prescott, that was his name, he was as bored looking as she felt, the Union didn't care for the person on trial here today, they wanted someone else, someone who had vanished.

A bell sounded and the three adjudicators entered at the front, they wore plain grey robes with hood drawn, they took their seats on the three thrones at the front of the room, the lead one spoke, "Bring the prisoner in"

The tribunal had been going on for a few weeks now, ever since they had captured Aschara, the fight had left the separatists once the space battle had ended, apart from a small battle around the governors palace most had simply surrendered to spare the planet and people from the vengeful rebel troops.

A door to the side was opened and a woman was escorted in, Governor Mirris, she still had an arrogant smirk plastered on her face and walked in like she had already won, the guards took her to her seat on the side in the prisoners box.

"We will now read the verdict", the lead adjudicator turned to face Mirris, "Governor Mirris, on the charge of treason against the Confederation, guilty, on the charge of sedition, guilty", the adjudicator sat back down while the next stood.

"For crimes against the Confederation and its people, including planning the use of bio weapons against the home world, we find you guilty, the sentence is life imprisonment until death at the penal asteroid facility twenty one beta, there will be no parole"

Mirris snorted as she was escorted out, as she stood she glared at the adjudicator and shouted "Traitors", before being dragged away.

Renata huffed, the end of an era of Aschen history, the last of Vex's sycophants removed, but there was still the question of Mollem, Mirris' husband, the Union wanted to try him themselves, for war crimes, but they had to find him first.

It was an issue caused by the new advanced hyper drives they had, the fleet had arrived to Aschara before whatever ship Mollem had escaped on, Mirris had warned him and he had vanished, patrols had gone deep into space in hopes of picking up his ship dropping out, they knew the range of the old drives and an idea of how far he could have gone, but space was too large, it was also near impossible to track ships in hyperspace, the Aschen couldn't, neither could the Union.

She half hoped he'd try a harebrained attempt to rescue his wife, it was partly why she wasn't just executed, they also wanted to show the Alliance members that the rule of law was strong in the Confederation, part of their attempts to build trust in the other nations, she doubted the Union would be so forgiving to Mollem.

"Glad that's over, now we can finally move forward", Kynes spoke.

Renata nodded, things were looking good for the future of the Confederation, now all she had to worry about was man eating aliens and body snatching parasites.

Heliopolis
ADI Facility
Joint Defence Meeting

There was a stark difference between the various nations that made up the Alliance, whether it was the population, development or technology the difference was clear enough to give a name to three nations, the big three, the Union, the Colonies and now the Aschen.

Those three nations were on another level compared to the others which were stuck on one planet and were minuscule in their economy in comparison, only the Hebridians could contest that status and they preferred to keep to their own sector of space, they were happy to trade but so far that had amounted to little due to the distance and relative poverty of the smaller Alliance members.

It was possible the big three was about to become the big four with the addition of the Gilgarans, but even though that nation had a highly developed space industry and fleets its population paled in comparison to even the Union.

Worlds like Langara, Vyus and Pangar had a lot of catching up to do, while the worlds of Tagrea, Galar and Orban were more advanced lacked the infrastructure to fully develop the space assets they needed, in short the smaller nations needed the Alliance to help them.

A plan was devised to help them on the way, it contained two separate avenues, one to develop the civilian and trade network between the planets, this would culminate in the Pact class of small freighter, a joint venture between the worlds to design and produce a ship with the contribution of all the Alliance members.

Simultaneously a project was begun to develop a fighter for the use of the Alliance and its members, primarily the worlds without their own fighters already, parts would need to be manufactured on those less developed worlds, part of the project was to improve their ability to make space vessels.

The design teams had born fruit as far as Ferore could tell, a meeting was called of the various interested defence agencies and the ADI, they would foist whatever bastard craft they made on him he knew, all for unity and friendship.

"Gentlemen, may I present to you the AF-1 Voidstrike fighter", the lead designer announced to the packed room, the team was made up of members of all the Alliance nations but the lead designer was from Tagrea.

Ferore knew there was no way they could have completely designed a working fighter in so little time but they did have artists renditions ready to show, to Ferore it looked like an old atmospheric jet from before the Colonies had regained space travel, it was going to be a long time before one flew he would guess.

"Two forward mounted weapons mounts in the nose and two wing mounted pylons for missile or rocket pods", the designer kept talking.

The Colonies had sold numerous Vipers and other small ships to several of the less developed worlds, things like old Hornet escort vessels were perfect for powers just setting foot into space, the small ships were better suited to them than something large like a cruiser or battlestar.

He knew the Terrans were offloading their old fighters and selling their new Tower class corvettes too, the small nations were slowly building up their fleets but not their industry, that was the point of this fighter, to build up that.

In his opinion whatever craft they produced would be a poor performer put politely, "Factories are being built on Langara and Pangar to build the fuselage, while other parts will be sourced from the other members of the alliance"

A list was projected on the wall, reactors from the Terrans, engines and inertial systems from the Aschen, life support and avionics from the Colonies, weapons from everyone it would seem, and a bunch of small parts from the others, a real mix.

He had talked to the Aschen representative, the man had been fully supportive of the ADI and told him his government would back it fully, he talked them into a refit kit for the tons of mark two and three vipers he received, Aschen engines and weapons paired with the enhanced fusion reactors from the Terrans would turn them into amazing craft, he was still working out details to acquire capital ship systems to refit the larger ships.

If it panned out it would turn the collection of rust buckets dumped on the ADI into a capable force able to actually fight enemies like the Goa'uld without disastrous losses, time was the only factor now, a new war seemed to be looming in the shadows, one that the ADI would be tested in.

Ferore glanced up to see the designer, Rogal Turis was his name he remembered, step down from the small podium at the back of the room, Ferore stood and moved to take the spot, it was time for his own story time.

He looked out at the faces of the leaders of the defence departments of the various nations of the Alliance, the people who held the purse strings, he cleared his throat, "I can report with confidence that the ADI first fleet will be fully operational by the end of next month", he began, picking up a remote from the shelf on the podium he had the projector display graphs and numbers.

"Currently we have fully trained enough crews to man thirty six ships full time, we expect to finish the expedited training to crew the remainder of the operational ships soon", Ferore didn't like the rush job with the training but people were expecting results quickly, once the first batch was done they could slow things down and do a proper job.

Ferore brought up the next slide, the current active forces under his command, "As of this moment our current active ships are all former Union vessels", another slide showing the Aschen ships transferred after the war, "While the Aschen vessels are fully functional they are still equipped with their original hyperdrives, which is far too slow for our operations"

A sigh left his lips, most of the ships in the ADI inventory were currently useless, the Colonial ships all needed repairs and upgrades to be useful, the Aschen ships needed new engines, only the Union vessels were in a ready to go state and even they were obsolete compared to the latest technology around.

The next slide showed the massive contingent of old Colonial ships they had received, one hundred and eight so far from the small Orion assault ship to the large old Janus cruisers, "Thanks to the Colonial governments generous donations the ADI has a large fleet of capital ships, once refit they will be a valuable addition, however these ships require large crews, it will take some time until the ADI had sufficiently trained them"

Fortunately manpower in and of itself wasn't a problem, training them to be useful in a timely fashion was the biggest bottleneck they had, even with the training facility expanding and access to holoband trainers it was still a long process.

Now some deal had been done with the Aschen to fast track their participation in the Alliance and the ADI, he was actually grateful for that, most of the people he had been promised were already trained in star ship operations, he could get the Aschen ships in inventory back into action right away.

Time and money were the things he lacked the most, time and money to refit the ships that needed it, to fully repair and upgrade the headquarters station, and to train new crews, "With the help of the Aschen and Union governments we have devised an upgrade program for our current inventory of fighter craft", he nodded to the Aschen representative in the room, Golan Ritter, he had been the one to offer new engines, shields and weapons for the Vipers.

While they had received a lot of used gear to refit the Colonial ships, laser cannons, first gen Terran shield generators and the like, stuff that was already outdated, he was hoping to push for more funding to get Aschen weapons and shields for the capital ships, it was why he was giving this presentation today.

"The upgraded fighters will bring the ADI's craft in line with the current technological level of the major powers, including the Goa'uld, we expect them to suffice until sufficient numbers of the new Voidstrike's become available"

Ferore brought up another slide, this one showing the southern sector of the galaxy that contained the majority of the Alliance members, "Our operational ships has allowed the ADI to begin its first patrols along the major trade routes between the Alliance planets"

A few members of the audience gave a clap as he said that, he did note the pleased faces on some of them, it was the first bit of proof that the ADI was worth the effort, "Work is still progressing on refitting the other ships, but our current refits are going to produce a subpar quality of ship armed with last generations weapons and technology, while they might be sufficient to suppress piracy and other illegal activity they will be no match against our known external enemies"

"What do you propose Admiral?", that was Eladio Puasha, deputy minister of defence from the Colonies, he had butted heads with Ferore when he was still Fleet Admiral, the government had long wanted to reduce spending on the fleet after the war and under Ferore they had begun to really hammer it home, not any more though, things changed fast.

One issue with getting the most advanced tech was that the various governments wanted to keep their secrets, the Terrans kept an iron grip on their pulse cannon tech, likewise the Colonials weren't letting their new plasma weapons out into the wild, even the older Terran particle cannons couldn't be had.

The Aschen war hadn't changed that but it did give everyone an even playing field when it came to knowledge, the Aschen also had no reason to not sell their weapons now, the secret was already out there even if most worlds couldn't actually produce it themselves, they were the one way he could get useful weapons and systems for his ships.

"I'm asking for an increase to the budget to purchase more advanced systems from the Aschen", he nodded to Golan again, "The Aschen government is looking to add their own contribution to the ADI, and are offering to refit several of the ships with the most modern technology, we need more money to do all of the ships"

They expected him to pull a miracle out of his ass with the ADI, to do that they'd need to give him the resources, "Aschen refits will enable those ships to contend with the likes of the Goa'uld, otherwise we'd be looking at horrific losses in any engagement"

The various government officials began to murmur amongst themselves, things had changed much from when the Alliance had just begun, there was now a banking system in place to trade currencies among the members, the basis of the quickly multiplying trade that had formed between the member states.

They promised to bring his request back to their governments, he'd see if he could scrounge some funds from what they had, he didn't want to send crews to fight in ships that would be deathtraps against any of the powers in the galaxy.

ComStar Headquarters
Hilton Head Island, Terra

Julian walked down the corridor behind Kerensky in a daze, he had just been told the whole story of how Kerensky came to be here, alternate universes, alternate timelines, it was all surreal, an Earth from the past fighting parasitic aliens seemed almost normal in comparison.

They were on the way to the conference room, it had a link to the HPG system for live inter system communications, on the way he noticed that the normal contingent of guards had been replaced, every door had Kerensky's men guarding it, outside the few ComStar mechs had been returned to their hangars, Union mechs patrolled around instead.

The take over was complete, strange in how bloodless it had been, Tojo had done excellent work in removing any of the problem people before Kerensky had arrived, the remaining militia troops had returned to their barracks, under watch but allowed their freedom.

The blood results had come back too, it was Kerensky alright and no clone, he did have some unusual differences in his DNA, from some genetic treatment which granted improved strength, endurance and a whole host of other benefits including drastically improved lifespan, seeing Kerensky in the flesh showed the benefits, the man only looked to be in his late forties for a man over eighty, another spectacular demonstration of Union technology.

To think a world nearly a millennium behind them on the timeline had advanced so far in so little time, Kerensky had been free with the information, seeing no reason to conceal the hard truth from Julian, to hammer home how fucked ComStar truly was.

The conference room was empty when they arrived apart from two acolytes stood ready to initiate the call as soon as Kerensky commanded, his soldiers entered and took up positions at the back of the room, while Julian sat beside Kerensky.

"Initiate the call"

Soon three holograms sprung to life, two Julian was familiar with, on the left was Janos Marik, Captain-General of the Free Worlds League and ornery bastard, taking up the middle was Ian Davion, First Prince of the Federated Suns and someone who thought force was the soultion to all problems.

The third, Katrina Steiner, she had appeared in Kerenskys last meeting, the one ComStar had recorded through the Marik end of things, yesterday Julian didn't know why Kerensky choose her over the actual Archon of the Commonwealth, today he knew Alessandro was on the way out, proof of what Kerensky had told him, how else would he have known.

Ian Davion was the first to speak, he had a wide smile stretched across his face, "You work fast General, only a day later and you already control Terra, we were wondering why all communications had been cut, our commanders could stand to learn how you do it"

One of the others was less pleased looking, Janos glared at Kerensky through his holographic form, "What's this Kerensky, first you say you're going to destroy ComStar, now I see you standing right beside their leader?"

Kerensky shrugged, "Primus Tiepolo had the good sense to offer the complete surrender of ComStar and Terra to me, a path that will save us all a lot of grief"

Janos' eyes narrowed, "Really now, because I've looked through those files myself, I think the universe could do better without those kinds of snakes at our backs"

"The disruption to our nations if the HPG network were to be taken down would be immense", Katrina said to Janos, "What are you proposing General?"

"ComStar is going to be split into several independent organisations, one will be a civilian operator of the HPG infrastructure", his finger was raised, "And before you ask I will share HPG technology with all of you, including selling mobile HPG machinery so you can build your own secure communications network"

Davion nodded after looking at something on his side, he was clearly being instructed by someone else, most likely his brother who was known to be very politically savvy, "The Suns are very grateful for your offer General Kerensky, what of these other organisations?"

Kersnsky started to list them off, "The Mercenary Review Board will be made completely independent from ComStar, the same for the media branch, the military units and intelligence will be purged and the remains absorbed by the new Hegemony, so too will the explorer corps"

Ian Davion bowed his head, "We can agree to that, my own experts were dreading the loss of the HPG network and the damage it would do, it is a good thing that scenario was avoided"

"Hmph, and what of the numerous secret facilities ComStar has hidden in my space, are you taking those too?"

Kerensky sighed, "No Captain-General, those worlds belong to the nations they are located within, the Primus will ask them to surrender and for the personnel there to return to Terra, I would only ask you allow them to leave in good order and only attack if they refuse to depart"

Janos nodded, "Acceptable, now, what of your intent to reveal all of ComStars secrets to the public, I take it that is no longer the case?"

"Correct, that would have suited my purposes only if I needed to invade Terra, since I am now there without firing a shot it is no longer necessary and will only be a detriment at this point, better to dismantle ComStar first then reveal that information, of course I will not stop you from hunting down any former members you have a personal interest in"

Julian expected as much, ROM had gotten up to a lot, fortunately his recent promotion to Primus would spare him most of the wrath of the house lords, poor Rusenstien however was living on borrowed time, he would need to be watchful anyway though, he had been Precentor Atreus and Janos Marik was one to carry a long grudge.

More head nodding and murmurs of agreement came as Kerensky presented his plans for the complete neutering of ComStar, how its various divisions would be spun off, standing where he was now he understood Kerensky and the rest of the Unions animosity to ComStar, they knew the future after all, after being told of the Word of Blake, what they would do, he too understood, he could easily see it come to pass, at least this way something of Blake's vision would survive.

So far everyone had failed to mention the red headed woman sitting beside Kerensky, she had received a few glances but that was all, during their initial meeting he thought she had looked unsure, he was half right, she was resigned, after Kerensky's identity had been confirmed she was next and that was a surprise to all.

A real living Cameron, one who survived the execution of her whole family, a distant cousin from the last First Lord no less, she would be the strongest claimant to the throne now, even two centuries later, Kerensky would use her to legitimise his taking of the old Hegemony worlds.

"Primus", Kerensky spoke, pulling Julian from his thoughts, "The results of your blood tests"

Tiepolo nodded to one of the acolytes to transmit the data as he spoke, "General Kerensky submitted himself to a blood test to prove his identity, I can confirm he is who he says he is and is not a clone or other deception"

"You'll excuse me if I don't take your word for it Primus, ComStar's reputation is not what it was", Janos nodded to Kerensky, "Frankly I don't care if you are or not, if you can deliver what you promised you could be the devil himself"

Kerensky sighed, "Later today I plan to announce the change in management of this planet to the Sphere at large, I will also be inviting all the leaders of the Sphere to Terra to discuss matters, including the periphery powers, I am prepared to reveal a lot more details of why I am here to you three then, first though, allow me to introduce the last living Cameron, Jessica Cameron"

Jessica glared at Kerensky and looked to the back of the room where Kerensky's son stood watching, he gave her an encouraging smile, "Second cousin once removed of Richard Cameron, she has the strongest claim to the throne, I plan to announce the reformation of the Hegemony to all the leaders of the Sphere during the conference, Jessica here will be instrumental in bringing it back"

Three sets of eyes bored into her, Davion was the first to speak, "I see, my government has already begun the process to hand over the worlds to you General and Lady Cameron, still, it is a tall ask and will take some time"

Kerensky nodded, "Understandable, the conference will take a month to arrange in any case, we have plenty of time to work out the details and recompense", he rubbed at his chin, "Speaking of payment, I am prepared to transfer five warships to each of you, the remains of ComStar's secret fleet, once the transfer process has begun, we can sort out the details when you arrive on Terra"

Julian saw the naked interest come alive in their eyes, warships, a dream of every lord since the last were lost in the second succession war, and Kerensky was just going to hand them over, after seeing the Union ships in action though old Star League ships were rusty relics in comparison, he understood that the Union and Kerensky saw no value in holding on to them, not when they planned on selling their own warships to the three leaders in front of them.

"Terra", Janos tasted the word, "Fine, I'll be there, I wonder if that Liao bastard will come, it'll be funny watching him squirm", a cackle left his lips as he finished speaking.

"I have preparations to make but rest assured I will be there", Katrina bowed her head to Kerensky, "I dearly wish that your arrival brings stability and an end to the many wars General, the people have suffered enough"

"You wont mind me taking a spin of those Star League mechs of yours General?", Ian Davion said with a laugh, "But yes, the Suns are fully on board with your ideas General, we will be there"

Kerensky nodded, "I will see you then, now, if you will excuse me I have an announcement to make to the Sphere at large"

Kerensky let out a sigh as the three holograms disappeared then turned to Julian, "I'm extending a lot of trust in your direction Primus, if you want any part of ComStar to survive then its time to start holding up your end, issue the withdrawal orders for all of those secret worlds and all your explorer corps ships"

Tiepolo nodded, "It will be done"

Kerensky was about to talk again when a knock came, the door opened to reveal Tojo being escorted by two Union soldiers, Tojo quickly bowed to both men, the Cameron woman had already left her seat and was in the arms of Kerensky son who was watching events unfold with a curious eye.

"Primus, General, a situation has developed"

………………………………………………………………..

The military command centre on Hilton Head controlled the majority of the airspace around the North American continent, the eastern half anyway and a significant percentage of the Atlantic as well as a large portion of the orbitals, nothing happened on Terra without the controllers here knowing about it.

A map was displayed on the large wall screen showing the local area around the island, three large red triangles were flashing over the nearby city of Savannah, a battlemech battalion and its elements, on the march directly to the main bridge.

"They'll reach the bridge in forty minutes at their present speed", A lieutenant wearing a Union uniform was speaking, all the ComStar personnel had already been removed from the secure areas of the facility, especially while teams checked the place for a possible nuclear bomb, it was how the island would be destroyed in the future but no one knew if the Blakists had brought it or if it was already present.

"There was unusual traffic heading into Savannah, mostly from our facilities in North America but we didn't notice in time, its Precentor Kintero, he's a fanatic who was on the list but my men missed him", Jarlath was explaining.

Kerensky nodded, "We expected something like this would happen", he turned to the soldier, "Contact General Chernikov, I want to talk to her", Kerensky turned to face Tiepolo and Jarlath, "You have asked him to stand down?"

Jarlath nodded, "He's refusing all communications attempts but he his broadcasting that Hilton Head has fallen to infidels, he managed to get a few but not all of our forces onto his side"

Kerensky rubbed his chin, "Order all of your forces to stand down, planet wide, the Union will be taking over all military operations on Terra from now on, my troops will begin deployment soon"

The large screen changed to a view of a weathered looking woman, a prominent scar bisected one of her eyes leaving it milky looking, "General", was her gruff acknowledgement of Kerensky.

"General, as expected some of the local forces have refused to stand down, it is time to implement Operation Touchdown, you have full authority to conduct limited orbital strikes on forces or bases that refuse to surrender, we can handle Hilton Head ourselves"

A vicious smile appeared on her face, "Finally, give me twelve hours General and the planet will be yours, Chernikov out"

Kerensky turned back to the shocked ComStar Primus, "We will endeavour to limit the damage but I suggest you emphatically inform all of your militia forces to stand down and return to their homes before my forces arrive, we will not be pulling any punches"

Tiepolo's shoulders dropped in defeat, "Understood General, I will communicate it to them myself"

He had brought a full regiment to Hilton head with him and above the planet was the rest of the 316th Royal Battlemech Division, fully intact and ready to go, they would soon be leaving the ships above and come to Terra where they would take control of every military facility on the planet, by force if necessary, such numbers had not been seen in the Sphere in a long time and the local ComStar forces were not ready for what was coming.

"Contact Colonel Petrović, tell him he his cleared to engage the enemy battalion"

…………………………………………………………………

Dozens of mechs stomped across the large bridge connecting the mainland to the island, at the lead was Colonel Petrović's Battlemaster, the assault mech thundered across the reinforced concrete, his command lance of heavy mechs trailing behind, "Enemy forces are ten minutes from waypoint beta, good luck", the controller was speaking through the radio.

"Alright, contact our artillery, I want theirs removed before we move into range", behind him half of the regiment was pushing across the bridge, no lights only heavies or bigger, at the back the slower assaults were bringing up the rear.

"Roger sir"

The telltale thump of outgoing artillery echoed across the water as Petrović passed the two tanks they had put on guard at the far side, a pair of Alacorns sat with their triple barrel gauss cannons ready to shred anyone who got too close.

"Alright men, we'll advance to waypoint alpha and set up there, I want assault lances on the flanks and heavies ready to charge the centre, if shit hits the fan the fleet boys will finish the job, lets not have to call them"

Minutes of stomping later and they were setting up on a hill overlooking the main highway that led to the bridge, way point alpha, without a word the half regiment began to split up and set up behind cover facing the approaching enemy force, all that was left was to wait, in the distance the artillery continued to pound away at the ComStar fools on approach.

Petrović glanced up to the sky as they waited, he saw the trails of dropships entering atmo, the last gasp of ComStar was about to be brutally crushed, "Sir, enemy forces approaching way point beta, eta five minutes to contact"

The ComStar goons were about to get a rude awakening when they encountered his mechs, he'd love to see their faces when it happened, he adjusted the light weight and brand new neuro helmet on his head, the new design was even smaller than before, amounting to a metal circlet around his scalp with attached wires, his neck was thankful to no longer have to support the heavy helmet.

He didn't have to wait long for the first enemy mechs to appear, a scout lance crested the small rise across from their hill, two Mercury's led the lance, a Thorn and Jackrabbit keeping flanking position, they scattered as soon as they saw his mechs, bursting to their full speed and trying to back-pedal.

"Major Gauthier, remove those annoyances"

"With pleasure sir"

The Major's assault lance opened fire, a gauss shell from her Highlander slammed into the cockpit of the first Mercury as it tried to turn, the headless machine crashed into the trees as it collapsed, the next was shredded when the Emperor in her lance unloaded its two LB-X auto cannons into its side, the Jackrabbit was turned into shredded metal.

Laser fire came in return, the last two mechs getting shots off before being finished off by the King Crab's massive guns and gauss shells from the only Pillager in his formation, he never got to see the look on their faces as the lasers splashed harmlessly off the shields of the mechs.

All the mechs in Union service had received a new upgrade, taking the already amazing machines with the new heat recyclers and making them even better, the space gained from the removal of the heat sinks was used to house the new shield generators, giving the mechs unparalleled survivability in combat.

The remaining trees that weren't on fire on the distant low hill began to shake, the artillery had ceased too, mechs began to slowly appear, firing as they came, a storm of lasers, particles and shells roared back in defiance, the main ComStar force had arrived.

Petrović grew a savage grin, he had fought on Terra once, to remove the usurper, he never did feel content with the amount of suffering he had given those Rimworlder bastards, he always had more pain to share, "1st Regiment, advance!", ComStar would need to do instead.

Already ComStar machines were being torn apart, lights and mediums unsuited to the amount of firepower being thrown at them, their lines were sloppy too, some mechs racing ahead, others trailing behind leaving gaps, their return fire was amounting to nothing in the face of energy shields anyway, they would soon break.

Petrović's mech rattled like a drum as a stream of heavy shells pounded against his shields, a white monster appeared in his sights, a ComStar King Crab, his dance partner for this event, shields had dropped a noticeable twenty percent too, he wasn't invulnerable, just close.

He dodged left as another volley came in and replied with his own PPC's, the twin particle bolts melted a few tons of armour from the machine, Petrović pushed the throttle to full and closed the distance, firing again to the shock of his opponent, he had no need to worry about heat after all.

Another volley fired, joined by the Crab's other weapons, missiles raced in from its launchers as the large laser scattered where it illuminated his shield bubble, explosions hid him from view as the LRM's slammed home, he pushed through keeping an eye on the shield gauge, fifty two percent and rising.

He fired again, twin bolts catching the enemy mech in the arm actuator, he smirked as one of the a/c twenties fell to the dirt and added his large pulse lasers fire to the empty shoulder joint, armour boiled away as he came within spitting distance, passing on the side with the missing arm he depressed the trigger and sent his four medium lasers into the mechs internals, fire spewed from the hole as the machine toppled over and the pilot punched out.

Shots slammed into his back, shields at sixty percent now, he turned to see a piddly medium firing its lasers into his shields, a Phoenix Hawk, it lit up its jump jets, intending to jump out of danger, it was a hair too slow as Petrović's PPC's caught it in the face, a headless hawk fell to the ground dead.

The battle was nearly over when he turned to look, only a few ComStar mechs remained and that was quickly changing, soon a call for surrender was heard, one he granted, his eyes surveyed his own forces, eh saw some damage here and there, shots that had penetrated shields, but nothing major or lasting, zero casualties, a far cry from the blood drenched slog that taking Terra from Amaris had been.

"Petrović to General Kerensky, enemy force is destroyed"

………………………………………………………………

"Good work Colonel, Kerensky out"

Kerensky turned to the pale Primus of ComStar, "Now Primus, I think it is time we informed the Sphere of my return"

The party moved over to a comms terminal with holo camera, all ready to broadcast, "Everything is ready for a live broadcast across the HPG network, you may begin when ready", Tiepolo said and stood behind him as pre arranged.

Kerensky sucked in a breath then began, "People of the Inner Sphere, I am General Aleksander Kerensky, formerly of the Star League, while it might seen unreal to you that I am still alive after all this time it is the truth, I have returned from my self imposed exile and returned to restore the Inner Sphere to its previous glory"

Kerensky waved to Tiepolo, "I have already reached an accord with ComStar to turn over stewardship of Terra to a new government being formed, we will work tirelessly to restore a standard of living, of education, not seen since the fall of the Star League, we will openly share the technology and expertise to restore those worlds thought lost in the countless wars that have occurred"

"That is why I am extending an invitation to all the leaders of the Sphere and the Periphery, to come to Terra so we can discuss the future of mankind, to discuss a plan to open up the lost technology of the Star League and open new schools and universities across known space, to discuss an end to the countless wars that have plagued the Sphere since the fall of the Star League"

"Together we can restore all we lost and pave the way to a brighter future, one without the constant war and death we now face on a daily basis", he paused, "We begin at the end of February, those who do not show will not benefit from the offer of assistance and technology, I await your response, Kerensky out"

Silence hung in the air as he finished, all eyes were on him, "Overdoing it there Dad", Nicholas smirked.

Kerensky shrugged, "I'm not made for public speeches, let me talk to an army, there I am at home", Kerensky rubbed his chin, he was going to be stuck on Terra for the foreseeable future, Aaron had taken his place on the Council for now but they would need to arrange for direct communications between here and Earth, especially when the Hegemony was reformed as a territory of the Union.

He shook his head, thoughts for another time, "Come son, I think I need to make amends with your future wife, she also did not like being thrust into the limelight"

You could have heard a pin drop in the command centre when the recorded broadcast had finished playing, Jamie had been out patrolling around the area in his Archer when the live event had occurred, Josuha had the good sense to hit record when the fake had appeared on screen.

"He's dead, I saw his body myself", Natasha mused, she had been to the Pride in orbit over Strana Mechty, saw Kerensky's entombed body in person, "It does look like him though, if far too young, could he be a clone?"

Jamie sighed, "I'm going, its the only way we're going to find out", he paced around the cramped room, "Josuha, you stay here and look after the Dragoons, I'll take my command lance from alpha regiment and some of the Seventh Kommando intel teams, I'll find out what this is all about"

Natasha stood up from her seat near Josuha, "I'm going too, don't bother to argue, two lances are better than one if things go to shit, Josuha can manage without us for that long"

Jamie Wolfe nodded, "Find us a ship, I want us in the air as soon as possible"

…………………………………………………………………………

Similar events were playing out across the Sphere as people reacted to the transmission from Kerensky, everyone with some power was looking to race to Terra, to find out just what was happening, the leaders of nations chartered ships and loaded up their dropships, no one wanted to be left behind if LosTech was on the table, while others who yearned for a return of the Star League looked to dump their current masters for better ones, first they needed to know if it was true, did Kerensky return?

I would say good chapter for showing multiple viewpoint . It is dealing both astropolitical matters with the Alliance and their incorporation alongside with it , we have the part of the Inner Sphere . Does the TU planned to send /formatting people in their way of thinking to built a local governance that are loyal to their interest ?
I love the fact how they will slowly but surely increasing their ground operations . Soon , we should expect the TU having their own equivalent Gunslingers programm with modernized army albeit far much more advanced than the Inner Sphere .
Damn , wish to see the new variant of Manticore . Does all the vehicle will have shield , incorporated fusion reactors and other stuff far much more advanced ? In same time , they have a huge margin of progress as long the Goa'uld don't know their existence . They have still their hands full to deal with the Cylons and the Ovirions ( and especially the Ovirions ) and I hope to see their full mobilization both in navy and army . After all , I am a big lover of space battle but also one who loved to see scifi ground battle .
What can I say I am a lover of ME, Halo , SG and other scifi stuff who show the basic component of military prowess - The Soil -.
Since the Big 3 might becoming the Big 4 depending how far the Gildarans are in term of industries and other stuff , what could be the role of the Tollan , they are too small to carrying the title of Big since they lost literally everything and required time to building up their industries and their scientific institution . But to me , they don't have any form of military and advanced form of defensive prowess . The only thing they have are spaceship and a local orbital defense . Yes their technology is seriously impressive since it could blow up planets literally and have phased-weapns but personally they seemed stuck to what they have as if most of their scientific base have been given rather then earned .

I'm wondering if you put the Sojourner universe , they should be outside of the Milky way . I mean the Centrum ( aka the local humans ) didn't have any planet named as Earth . They also seemed to inhabit a small star clusters . They are basically a more advanced version of the Expanse with FTL station , artificial gravity using a element and a gravitationnal technology using both principles similar to the Epstein drive using gravitationnal thruster and a gravitic fusion tech . Althought , they seemed to be very small with only sixteen star system . Their neighbours located at three thousand light years called the Advari , they are also humanoid in appearance with their grey skin colored .
They have both unique technology and might be funny to see them meeting the Alliance . However I'm not sure how fare they will be against their ships . From what I have read so far , they will be hilariously slaughtered by any B-3 powers easly.

The Inner Sphere must be shitting their pants at the sight of warships floating around in the atmosphere.

That said, kind of surprised that anyone would bank on the Cameron dynasty being a thing Terrans would care about and the rest of the Inner Sphere would be nostalgic for. Kerensky at least has name recognition and the whole "killed Stefan Amaris, one of the craziest to ever live."

That is true . We have to be reminded that the successive war and Comstar fuckery have not only removing technology but also limiting the shipbuilding capabilities of every house . They literally cannot no longer produced any form of warships outside Dropships . Their dependencies on jumpship also limit the mobility . It would take time and effort for the IS to regain at least some minor capabilities and more time before they got a jump in fleet capabilities . By this time , I can guarantee you that the TU will have their hands on a Hegemony-equivalent Foothold of affiliated TU territory with hundreds worlds and their populations which means at least a hundred billions people will be "soon"( give or take a few centuries ) integrated into their government . Fleet production will be keeping up especially with the galactic threat on the SG side . They might need the IS for economics purpose but with Iron Womb technology and integration of populations from fallen regime and political escapee might be a massive booster on growth . The question is how do they planned to tackle them and punching every fucking idiots who tried to do a not-so smart thing . The fact the Kerensky ground force literally kicked the asses with no casualities show a lot of potential . They will definetely stay at advantage in fleet projection and technologies for a very long time before the IS might match their early version of ships and even at that time , their populations will likely match a good portion of the Inner Sphere or at least match and surpassing a Successor State in term of populations .
That is not including the Clan Question . If they are salvageable , at least some of them ( I think the Ghost Bear clan might a good candidate alongside others clans as open-mind to join the TU and understood after several slaps and spank on their asses ) might be beneficial for safekeeping and acting like true protector armies against threats . However , even in the Canon Battletech , the total of three hundreds more clans warships was kinda low especially with the amount of worlds inside the Inner Sphere and this massive fleet was a semiloose allied fleets but also turn into themselves and fighting each other for tech acquisition by trials and war games . Not only that but even after the war and Jihad war , It seemed they have not yet rebuilding the massive fleet available . I swear they are lucky they didn't found any aliens empire yet because the BT side will be royally screwed and fucked like for every 24 hours and seven days in a repetitive cycle .
Hopefully , the reveal of Kerensky might reduce the tension so everyone might fucking chilled out before a incoming catastrophe might knocking at their door . The only thing that need to be adressed on the IS side are the two fucking walking warcrime empire that need to be dealt with and the Clans that needed to be spanked in front of everyone with GLOVES OFF .

Of course I have to remind everyone that this is a equivalent of a early SG-series in canon progression albeit far much more advanced than said canon . We don't have yet Daedalus technology-level and whatever they might mature on their labs and scientific theories, who know what might happen . I trust the Author to show how he excel in the writing . The only thing I ask myself with all their little conflicts from left and right , they might be busy to not exploited the Goa'uld civil war . Granted nothing stop them to send operator fleet once they mature cloaking tech to have a ragtag fleet of black ops , tech acquisitor and other stuff that might level the playing field before contact .

Not so much bank on as just there to add a little legitimacy, i imagine there still might be a few who yearn for a return of the Camerons, either way it doesn't hurt to include her even though Kerensky alone is probably more fondly remembered in the core of the Sphere, i imagine the periphery has a different opinion though.

I think the Hegemony's population at the end was around 1.2 trillion or that was possibly the Republic of the Sphere, either way the numbers wont be far off that mark for the Hegemony worlds alone, i saw numbers that put the total population of the IS at 6 trillion, not sure if that included the periphery or not.

It will take time to recover those planets to a useful state though, as for the Clans, yeah some are redeemable others less so, either way it would take military intervention to change things there, Kerensky return might entice some to come to him but only if they think he's the real deal, the Dragoons will be hte start of that process.

Yeah , I have some doubt on their populations so I have decided to correlate with Terra and its twelve billions people and making that every world would have at least 12 billions . Anyway good work for this . You know , I have read on SB forum the comments about a potential track toward Earthsiege and Starsiege but then they might not be not needed in the portals . They could easly put in the SG Milkyway . Starsiege/Tribes is a bit complicated considering that there is a few thing I don't know and hell I tried to find some research on the lore . There is still the compiliation data in SB about EarthSiege/Starsiege but I'm trying to find any source . If you have intel , mind to share it . That will be great .
In all their tech integration , the Terran Union might be quite challenged in managing several research projects . There is also the fact that scifi universe are real so they might still trying to reproduced some technologies but not before a very long time . The only thing they lack could be to becoming a post-singularity civilization without AI but that line of research might be risky if they created by accident Artificial Intelligence .
How about a development on mining industry to see their advancement alongside other civilians department ?

Don't know much about it myself, just some bits i came across over the years, never played the games either, just a demo of tribes when it came out.

I'll see about adding a section on mining, not sure about what other civilian things i could add right now, as for any kind of AI, there'll be nothing more advanced than what we have now, the Colonials and the Cylons put an end to most research into it, it'll take time for attitudes to change

Chapter 50 New
Stargate Command
Pluto Station
19th February 2066

Jack was on his feet and half way to the command centre after the alarm had sounded, Walther's calm voice calling out, "Unscheduled offworld activation", was always a sign of something bad to come.

He arrived in time just as the gate fully activated, "Close the iris", Hammond commanded, Jack wandered over to the general and observed as combat teams moved in and pointed their guns towards the closing iris, twin pulse laser turrets popped out of the room to add to their firepower, a recent addition.

"Receiving IDC", Harriman spoke, a hint of confusion filled his next words, "It's the Tollan"

Now, that was unexpected, the mission to drop them off back at their new planet was a few months ago now, so long he thought they were just not interested in further contact, still, they had been given an IDC just in case.

"Lower the iris", Hammond ran a hand over his bald head then nodded to O'Neill, "Coming Colonel?", Hammond moved to the door and Jack followed along, the metallic sliding of the iris audible as they entered the embarkation room.

Two people stepped through the gate as they arrived at the base of the ramp, both of them familiar faces, Narim and his boss Omoc, both of them were wearing silvery robe like clothing Jack noted, Omoc still has his resting disdainful expression while Narim looked happy.

Hammond gave them a nod, "Omoc, Narim, welcome to Stargate command"

Omoc bowed his head slightly in greeting, "You have our gratitude General Hammond, the Curia felt it was time to reach out and begin the process of diplomacy with your people"

"Please, lets move this to the confrence room", Hamond waved the men towards the door, Jack moved to take up the rear.

"Colonel O'Neill", Narim beamed at him with an outstretched hand, "Handshakes are the custom no?"

Jack smiled back, "Yep", he gave Narim a strong enough grip, he made sure not to crush his hand by accident, a possibility nowadays.

"By any chance, is Commander Carter on the station, I would like to discuss some matters with her"

Jack nodded, "Yeah, I'll take you to her after the meeting"

A bit of walking and the four of them settled into the comfortable conference room seats, he saw that even Omoc looked surprised at the comfort level offered by the very expensive chairs, Jack had looked it up once, it was safe to say his mortgage was cheaper than one of them.

He studied Omoc as everyone settled in, Jack felt a vibe from him, like he was one bad day from snapping and trapping people in a house full of deathtraps, he shivered when Omoc caught his eyes, like someone had stepped over his grave.

"Alright then", Hammond spoke, "We assumed that you preferred your isolation, your visit has come as something of a surprise"

Omoc nodded, "We do, still, our attempts to recreate a stargate of our own ran into some issues we were unable to solve, that was until we were contacted by an advanced alien race calling themselves the Nox"

Hammond nodded, "We are aware of them", he rubbed his chin, "Ambassador Weir mentioned something about asking the Nox to investigate your stargate construction"

Omoc sighed, "That is what we were told", his eyes pinched tight, "Frankly, it was a humbling experience, to be shown how far behind we are compared to others, they solved our issues within a day, our stargate is now fully operational"

Omoc crossed his arms, "We were also made aware of your Alliance", a frown appeared on his forehead, "We cannot condone sharing advanced technology with less developed peoples, however even we see the merits of the Alliance and the Nox were insistent that we participate"

Jack had read Weirs report, she had detailed the strange psychic event to the smallest bit, it had led to the forming of a school for the newly gifted people of Earth being formed on Heliopolis, one run with the help of Nox teachers, and now Weir's suggestion had brought the Tollan to them, they worked fast.

Hammond nodded, "I see"

"Understand this is difficult for us General, Serita was a disaster we witnessed first-hand and the loss of our home world is still fresh, while our population remains safe on Tollana and our other surviving colonies our industry and infrastructure had been massively reduced from what it once was"

Omoc let his tiredness show, "Simply put, we need help, particularly in raw resources, many of our people are still stuck in temporary accommodations as we work to rehouse them, materials are our limiting factor"

Narim leaned forward, "We hope to engage with the members of your Alliance to trade for the materials we require, the Curia is currently reviewing the laws regarding the transfer of technology to less advanced worlds", he smiled at the two Terrans, "We may also reclassify your nation as advanced enough for limited exchanges"

Jack rubbed his chin, "What are we talking about", Sheppard's reports had painted a glowing picture of Tollan ion cannons, able to take out a Ha'tak in one shot, Earth could do with a few of those, not to mention their matter phasing tech and who knew what else.

The two Tollan men shared a look, Narim answered, "Not weapons Colonel, nor anything that could be used offensively, we are however willing to exchange medical and computing technology", Narim reached into his pocket and took out a phone sized device, "One of our medical scanners, based on what we saw while under your care it is far more advanced than your own equipment"

Hammond nodded, "I'm sure Doctor Fraiser would love a demonstration", he focused on Omoc, "What do you want in return?"

"As you may know General, our own hyperdrives are vastly inferior to your method of FTL, ideally we would like to trade for that, in addition we would like raw materials, trinium and naquadah", Omoc unfolded his hands and laid them on the table, "We would also like to gain membership in your Alliance for trade purposes only, we shall remain neutral in your conflict with the Goa'uld"

Jack knew the Union wouldn't be giving away the jump drive without something major in return, like ion cannons, but there was something else they could share, better hyperdrives, the kind they gave to the Aschen, Hammond was probably thinking the same thing, in any case it wouldn't be up to them.

"I think we can come to terms", Hammond stood, "I'll need to talk to my superiors though", he pointed to the door, "Guest quarters have been arranged, Colonel O'Neill can show you the way and I'm sure Doctor Fraiser would like to see your machine in action"

Jack stood too as Hammond excused himself, "Alright, lets hit the sick bay and see about dropping in on Carter on the way", he looked at Omoc, "Anywhere you want to go?"

Omoc's default bored expression had returned to his face, he nodded to Jack, "I was quite fond of your observation deck last time we were here"

"Sounds good", Jack led them out, getting the Tollan on board was a key point he felt, another advanced culture to offset the likes of the Aschen, things were looking far better than that other realities future.

….……………………………………………………..

"As you can see doctor, the scanner can recreate the whole interior of a patient and highlight problem areas", Narim was demonstrating by showing her the insides of his body, "As you can see I am perfectly healthy"

Fraiser took the offered scanner and examined it from every angle before pointing it at Narim and having a look inside, "It also comes with a variety of different modes such as showing the nervous system and its electrical impulses in real time, modes to display the vascular system, skeleton and a host of other options"

Fraiser looked impressed, "Its like an MRI and x ray machine in a tiny box, I'll admit it, I'm impressed"

Narim smiled and pulled another object out of his pocket, this to Jack, who was standing near the door watching, looked a lot like an electric toothbrush, "A cellular regenerator, it emits a field that causes cells to increase their activity and close wounds in a short time period", he looked around the empty medbay for a test subject but the place was pretty empty, accidents requiring medical attention were at an all time low thanks to the treatment.

Fraiser sighed, "Here", she pulled a scalpel out of a nearby drawer and sterilised it before creating a small wound on her forearm.

Narim bowed his head, "You have my thanks Doctor, allow me to demonstrate", the toothbrush was brought near the wound and began to emit a high pitched sound, Jack saw the would close itself in seconds, it reminded him of something out of Star Trek but real.

Frasier poked at where the cut had been, "Didn't even sting", she looked up at Narim, "What about larger wounds?"

Narim placed the thing on a nearby table, "There are risks using the device on more serious wounds, it may cause tissue to heal in the wrong manner, especially bones, but for light wounds, cuts and scrapes, it is a useful tool for first aid"

He smiled again, "These tools are ones you would find in every Tollan home, our medical facilities are equipped with much better equipment"

Fraiser turned to Jack, "Tell the General we could use these devices, and whatever else they have in their hospitals", she turned back to Narim, "What about pharmaceuticals?"

Narim sighed, "Biological science is our weakest field, I'm afraid that our pharmaceuticals are no more advanced than your own"

Fraiser nodded, "I expected as much, I had the drugs we found in your medical kits sent off for testing", she looked to Jack, "All we found were some painkillers and antibacterial medicines that were no better than our own, nothing to write home about"

She turned back to Narim, "Genetic engineering?"

Narim shook his head, "Banned long ago, such research contributed to the destruction of Tollan's biosphere alongside the industrial pollution, we only allow limited research to combat chronic illness"

She walked over to her desk and pulled out a vial, inside was an orange liquid, Jack knew what it was, the Aschen life extension drug, "So, nothing like this then", she handed the vial over, "We have two seperate methods to increase human lifespan", she pointed to herself and Jack, "How long do you think we'll live, naturally"

Narim shook his head, "I have no idea, on Tollan the average age at death is one hundred and ten with full medical support"

She nodded to the vial, "You'd live to over two hundred with a reasonable level of fitness with that", she pointed to herself and Jack again, "We might be looking at closer to four hundred, possibly more but we simply don't know"

Narim's jaw dropped open, he raised the tiny vial in his hand up to his eyes, "This would allow that?", he looked back to Fraiser, "I wont lie doctor, we would want access to these life extension methods"

Fraiser nodded, "We have some other advanced treatments too, we're not entirely primitive", she smiled then turned to Jack, "I'll have a report ready for the General in an hour"

Jack nodded, "Alright", he waved Narim over, "Lets go see Carter"

He led Narim through the station and to Carters lab, "Narim", she took him into a hug, "It's good to see you"

"You too Samantha", he looked around her lab, "I see your lab has changed since my last visit", tools and devices were strewn around the various benches, not one was familiar to Jack.

"I'll go check on Omoc, holler if you need me", he nodded to Carter before walking out of the room, "But first, coffee"

Minutes later and he was in the cafeteria staring at the sign pasted over the very expensive coffee machine they had all chipped in to buy, it could grind the beans and roast them and everything, if only it wasn't broken, "Fer crying out loud", he grumbled and made his way over to the small kitchenette and pulled out a tin of instant swill, it would have to do.

He poured a mug full of the stuff and added some sugar to hide the bitter taste of the cheap stuff the Union provided, as he raised the steaming mug to his lips the intercom came to life, "Colonel O'Neill to General Hammond's office, I repeat..."

He took a swig and sighed, he'd better see what this was about, another trip across the station and he was at General Hammond's office overlooking the stargate room, he saw men driving crates through the gate on quad bikes with attached trailers down below, the few dozen machines vanished through the wormhole before it closed.

"You wanted to see me sir?", he asked then took another sip of the bitter brew.

"Have a seat Colonel", Hammond spoke without looking up, his focus was on the screen of his computer.

Jack placed his cup on the desk, leaving a ring shaped stain behind, he quickly wiped it with his sleeve, just in time as Hammond looked up from the computer, "I talked to the foreign office, a team is on the way to begin talks with the Tollan", Hammond steepled his fingers, "Any trade agreement with them now will open up the possibility of gaining their more advanced technology down the line"

Jack nodded, "I saw their medical tech in action, it was straight out of Star Trek, if their other technology is on par even if we don't get weapons its a winner"

"Exactly, so be on your best behaviour, don't let Omoc's lack of personality upset our future relations with the Tollan"

Jack shrugged, "I'll stay away from him, Daniel is a better match for tour guide anyway"

Hammond nodded, "Now, because of the upcoming Atlantis expedition the station is about to become very busy, all non essential missions are being postponed until after they leave", Hammond glanced at the calendar on the wall, "They'll begin arriving tomorrow"

Jack followed Hammond's eyes to the calendar himself, if everything went to plan the Vulcan should be in orbit of Lantea soon, the expedition would be leaving on the twenty fifth whuch would mean five days of absolute hell as thousands of people extra were crammed into the station.

It was a good thing that another module had been added on, a small shipyard of all things, it also contained housing for the workers who were due to arrive in march, they'd be used to house their extra guests for now but even that wouldn't be enough, he felt sorry for the poor sods who would have to hot bunk.

The shipyard itself was a strange addition, the SGC would be building test beds for some experimental tech gained through the gate he was told, plus building and maintaining a small fleet of frigates for the exclusive use of the star gate program, stealth ships he had been told.

"There is one key event upcoming that I want SG-1 to handle", Hammond spoke, "Aris Boch"

Jack looked back to Hammond as he racked his brains to place that name, it took a few seconds but he remembered, the Sheppard files again, "The bounty hunter?"

"According to the files he belongs to an alien race known as the Ilempiri", Hammond ran a hand over his bald head as he brought up the file in question, "Outwardly they appear human albeit with yellow blood, they are possibly an ancient offshoot of humanity, in any case they are immune to Goa'uld infestation"

Jack whistled, "Could be handy but if I was a snake id just destroy them all, wouldn't want that kind of thing to spread"

Hammond shrugged, "Al we know is they are currently under the control of Sokar, its possible he only conquered them after his disappearance from the rest of Goa'uld space", he looked back at the screen, "He controls them through the drug Roshna, if they go without for any length of time death is certain"

Jack shook his head, the gould never failed to lower his expectations, "So, what's the plan, just walk up to him and say hello?"

Hammond stared at him, "In essence Colonel, yes", Hammond leaned back, "In the other timeline the SGC were sent after a downed drone on PJ6-877 where they encountered him hunting a Tok'ra named Korra"

Jack rubbed his chin, "Doesn't ring a bell, what did the Tok'ra say?"

"They were reticent to divulge the details but they did confirm he was currently infiltrating Sokar's domain"

Jack nodded, the Sheppard files were the most guarded secret the SGC had, not even their allies were privy to its existence, except Jolinar but she had agreed to keep silent on the matter so long as they prevented history from repeating, there was a big fear of too many people knowing would soon make everything in the files useless as history really diverged, specifically as it related to the SGC and gould.

"So, he'll run to the same place, we hop in and rescue him and talk to Boch, two birds and one stone etcetera"

Hammond sighed and nodded, "More or less, this time though you'll be taking SG-17 along, restrain Boch and return both him and the Tok'ra to the SGC, we'll take things from there"

Jack downed the dregs of his cooling coffee, "I'll see what the armoury has that's non lethal, didn't the files say he was resistant to Zats?"

Hammond nodded, "We also don't know how his unique biology will react to our chemical tranquillisers, I'd let Major Jenson's men handle that part",

Jack nodded, "Yeah, power armour"

Hammond turned back to his screen, "You have a few days to prepare Colonel, dismissed"

Jack stood and grabbed the cup, he'd better talk to old laser squad and work up a game plan.

P4S-947
Later That Day

Sergeant Andreas Stavros, Andy to his friends, took a look at the walled town they had driven up to, it felt like a mix of the old west and medieval village all mixed into one, a wooden palisade wall surrounding threes story wooden buildings and warehouses, with staff turrets placed at towers every few hundred meters, the antennas poking up above the large building in the centre of the town gave it a strange futuristic look too.

"Right, where do you want them", he asked the guide, a black leather uniformed man named Dannic, Stavros stood up from the electric quad and cracked his back, a few months ago he was a retired man, seventy years of age and veteran of the many conflicts that had plagued recent history, then the treatment came and now he looked a lot younger and his pension fund a lot smaller.

"We set up a firing range outside the walls over there", he pointed to a patch of dirt a few hundred meters off the dirt track that passed for a road, he saw a wooden framework with a few logs hanging off it for targets.

A dark hairy arm scratched at his smooth shaven chin, until fifteen years ago Stavros had been an army trainer in the Greek armed forces, he had decades of experience turning flabby young men into trained killers, when the Union went looking for people to train the various primitive peoples how to use guns he was one of the first to sign up.

Stavros nodded, "Alright, you heard him, lets show them what we got", twelve men accompanied him to the planet, New Dendred it was called, all worked for the union travelling to the various worlds and training the men who would become Legionaries, men would would defend the defenceless from the predations of the Goa'uld.

"Those are quite impressive machines, are they for sale?", Dannic asked as he watched the others race over to the range, twelve electric quad bikes and attached trailers, they were perfect for operating out of the gate, big trucks and even jeeps would have trouble with the less developed worlds, some lacked roads entirely.

Stavros shrugged, "Probably, I'll ask when I get back", he let Dannic hop onto the trailer and drove after the others, a small party of locals were waiting for them at the range, including Ma'chello or Sharn, the Cylon body he wore made him easy to identify.

Ma'chello had an interested look as he observed the quads approach, "What an interesting design, useful for excursions through the gate I assume?"

Stavros nodded, "Yeah, they're good at off-road stuff and the trailers let us tow a fair amount", he patted the seat, "The battery is good for a few hundred clicks before a recharge too", Battery technology had come a long way from the early days of electric vehicles.

Ma'chello rubbed his chin, "If only I wasnt so busy I could make something similar for the Syncicate, alas, my time is limited", he nodded to the box being unloaded, "The weapons?"

Stavros kicked it open and reached inside, a freshly oiled AK-47 or was it one of the Chinese knockoffs who knew, was withdrawn, it had come from some forgotten warehouse somewhere, there was still bunkers full of the old cold war stuff that was being used to equip the legion and the new militias forming on the worlds too primitive to join the Alliance, now the Syndicate too.

"An AK-47, simple and rugged, nothing fancy", he handed it over to Ma'chello for inspection, "Comes standard with a thirty round magazine", Stavros reached into the box and pulled one out before handing it over, "It inserts into the bottom there"

Ma'chello flipped the gun around and pulled the charging handle back, "Very simple I see, spring tension?"

Stavros shrugged, "It uses the gas from the projectile propellant to push the rod back and cycle in a new round, a spring pushes it forward to the firing position", Stavros reached in again and pulled out a translated field manual, "Its all in here"

"I see", he handed it back to Stavros, "A demonstration is next I believe"

Stavros nodded then pointed to one of his men, all were here to assist with the training, the world would be their home for the next few weeks as they showed the Syndicate men how to use the guns and gave them a bit of basic training, "Jones, show them"

Not that he thought they needed much, the few of them standing around had the look of experienced men, they all watched with interest as Jones moved over to the firing line with his own weapon, they had all been equipped with similar guns to the ones they brought, to prevent anything falling into the wrong hand he had been told.

Taking a knee Jones started to put accurate shots into the hanging logs as Stavros began commentary, "All the ammunition we brought is armour piercing, it should go through Jaffa plate no problem", he looked to Ma'chello, "The full specs are in the manual if you feel like making your own"

Stavros opened another box as everyone was watching the demonstration, Jones' rounds tearing through the softwood log with little issue, each report of the gun tearing another chunk of wood off, the new box contained a much larger weapon, another staple of the eastern block, the Union wanted to keep things simple to maintain for the primitive worlds, western gear was being shipped to places like Pangar to re-equip their armies to something that wasn't right out of world war one.

He hefted the machine gun out of the box, a belt fed PKM machine gun that he handed to another of his men, a fully loaded box was quickly inserted as Jones finished up, "Petrov here will demonstrate a heavier gun, we called them machine guns, perfect for defensive positions and dealing with large numbers of enemies"

Petrov had a manic grin as he went prone with the gun, Stavros was glad we was wearing ear protection as it roared to life and reduced one of the logs to splinters with a burst, then the next, his smile stretching further as it too was turned into sawdust.

The Syndicate men watching were suitably impressed, "A deadly weapon, it fires a heavier round than the smaller one?", Ma'chello asked him.

Stavros nodded, "It can be used against low flying and slow aircraft too in a pinch but we have other weapons designed to take them out", he nodded to one of the larger boxes, "We brought a few and some RPG's, enough to train the men while the rest is shipped over"

Ma'chello smiled, "Excellent, weapons were our biggest bottleneck, that and training new men", he nodded to the town behind them, "Your educators have already make great progress teaching the children too"

Stavros looked to the town, he saw the form of a Goa'uld shuttle coming in for a landing on the dirt pads to the side, "How big is the Syndicate?"

"Far bigger than what you see here, this is just where I have built my training facility, soon I will teach the others the basics of engineering and science, from there I will expand my production facilities and lay the foundation for a new nation, no longer will we bow down to Goa'uld oppression"

Stavros whistled, "Sounds like a lot of work"

Ma'chello chuckled, "Indeed, but with the help of your people not impossible", he waved to the town, "Come, I will show you the new recruits you will help train and your living arrangements, I hope they will be to your satisfaction"

System GJ3470
21st February 2066

The dim light of the distant red dwarf star cast shadows across the ship as it neared the massive asteroid floating in space, the ship rotated on its axis and a plume of fire shot out of the engine nozzles as it slowed to a relative stop beside the huge mass of rock.

Sam Williams smiled as he took in the readings from the mineral scanner, forty five percent kobolium by mass, the multi million ton rock was all his dreams come to life, his smile was contagious when he showed the rest of his small crew the screen.

Things were looking up from just a few short weeks ago, he managed to get the ship into dock, the former ore hauler needed a lot of work in the end, being a pre jump drive ship it didn't even come with gravity, he managed to find a deal on some used Colonial gravity plating and score a fusion reactor from a corvette that was being upgraded.

When he added the price for the jump drive itself it went a hair over his five hundred thousand budget, no money to pay wages or anything else and he had to beg his father for the money to fuel up the chemical main thruster on the ship, installing a fusion drive would cost millions so that wasn't happening.

Christine's dad had also allowed him to use the small repair dock in orbit for free on the condition he got a percentage of the haul, worth it in the end anyway, the ship needed a good amount of fixing, including dealing with the rust.

Rust wasn't something you expected to find on a space ship, but the old ore hauler had burst some pipes on the water recycling system before it had been towed to the auction spot, the water had months to work its way into every corner of the ship in zero g, rusting away everything it touched, fortunately the structure and hull were fine but the clean-up had taken a long time, especially the smell.

Fitting the jump drive and reactor was a breeze in comparison, then remodelling the living spaces to work in a gravity environment took only a few days, the largest parts were actually dealing with the bureaucracy, the amount of permits and forms that needed filing had worn his fingers down to the bone, it was a good thing his dad had an in thanks to his government contract work, then came all the hoops he had to jump through just to operate the jump drive, but it was worth it in the end.

The ship was called the Ironweave, a model twenty three bulk hauler measuring in at two hundred meters long, and totally obsolete compared to modern ships, still she could haul six hundred thousand cubic meters of materials in the massive cargo space that made up the majority of the ship, the crew were squashed into a tiny compartment at the front.

The crew was made up of a few friends of his who wanted to make a name for themselves, if Sam's plan worked out they all be rich at the end, and Williams astro mining would turn from a dream and into a reality.

"Ready the mining drones", Sam said to the smiling faces of his friends, too bad that Brad had been called back to duty for some special mission, he could have used his brother on the first trip of his ship, nearly a hundred light years from home, it had taken most of the day just to get here.

While researching everything to make his dream a reality he had studied the current cutting edge tech in space mining, typically ships would cut up asteroids into smaller chunks and tow the unprocessed ore back to a refinery, newer systems were moving to molecular forges to render the ore into its component elements but all of that was far too expensive for his operation.

The Ironweave was no mining ship just an ore hauler that once ferries the processed ore back from the asteroid mining sites and to Earth, still, she had a massive cargo bay, big enough to store a cheaper bit of cutting edge technology, mining drones.

He had struck a deal with a startup company, they would lend him the drones to prove the concept, he got free tools they got the proof it worked, now it was the time to see if they would work, the hard part had been finding the kobolium in the first place, they were already been out in the deep for a few weeks trying to find an undiscovered deposit.

There were two dozen of the car sized drones in the hold, each one equipped with grasping arms, tools and nets, they would attach to the asteroid and section off chunks and transport them into the hold, none of the crew would even need to step foot outside the whip while they worked away, it wasn't amazingly fast compared to more industrial processes but for a small time operator like him it was perfect.

A lithe form hopped into his chair, Christine, she planted a kiss right on his lips, her smile as big as her face, "We did it!"

Sam nodded, "We sure did", he even had buyers lined up, the Colonials were going gaga for kobolium too, he get good prices from them, this haul would net them millions of credits alone and it was only the first one, the future looked bright.

"Lets not count our chickens just yet", Joseph said from behind, "I'll be happy when the money is in the bank"

Joe, ever the pessimist, Sam shook his head good with a smile, "The hard part is over", he pushed Christine out of his lap and stood, "I'm grabbing the Champaign, anyone else want a glass?"

He returned with a tray of glasses as the first of the spider like drones was hauling a chunk of rock
into the hold, he raised his glass in a toast to the machine, "To good fortune"

New Valencia
Lion Class Dropship Croyd
En route to the Jump Point
25th January 3006 (22nd February 2066)

The jump point of the New Valencia system was nearly eight days away at a constant one gravity of thrust, Jamie had spent the six days since he left in deep thought about current events, too many strange things were happening.

He stood and stretched, something he was glad to be able to do as the dropship burned to slow down, he had enough of zero gravity on the initial trip to the Sphere, he moved over to the small desk and terminal that was in his quarters, bringing up all the details of the Hesperus attack, the public information at least.

He knew the moment he saw that name it was no mere pirate band that had attacked, Falcon Warriors, he'd complain that the Jade Falcons had no originality but since his own force was called the Wolf's Dragoons it was a bit of a pot calling the kettle black situation.

When the news had first spread he had no proof only a suspicion, enough of a suspicion to sent a member of the newly formed Wolfnet to investigate, while that was happening word surfaced of another attack that had happened previously, on some backwater called Helm, the name Falcon Warriors had first appeared there.

Much of the information had been doctored by a third party, ComStar he suspected, no footage of either attack had ever surfaced in the public spaces but thanks to the diligent work of Wolfnet his worst fears were confirmed, the damned Jade Falcons were to blame.

The Wolfnet agent had managed to acquire footage from the locals on Hesperus II, footage that showed Clan mechs in all their glory, Timber Wolfs, Summoners, even Elementals in action, and even worse the so called Falcon Warriors had taken losses, Clan tech was right now in the hands of the Lyran Commonwealth, he was at least able to confirm that no one was captured for all that was worth.

He stood and began to pace again, he knew the Falcon's Khan was opposed to the sending of the Dragoons, she wanted to invade right away, but Ward's proposal had the merit to succeed in the vote, was this some attempt to sabotage the Dragoons and by extension Clan Wolf?

His mission to scout the Inner Sphere had only begun and already problems from back home had followed him here, in any case he had ordered one of his precious jump ships to begin the arduous journey back to Clan space, the Khan and the Grand Council needed to be informed of the treachery of Clan Jade Falcon.

A scowl formed on his face as he thought of the new mystery that had appeared, Aleksander Kerensky returned to life, Terra and ComStar already under his control, did this have something to do with the Falcons too?, had they done the unthinkable and actually cloned the Great Father, used it in some ploy to make the Clans act far sooner than they would?

It was a possibility he couldn't dismiss, it was also possible it was a plot of one of the house lords in a bid to gain the throne of the first lord, or even just a conman who had balls of iron, he would know more soon enough.

The whole Sphere would soon know, he saw the frenzy that had over taken the people of the Sphere, all the lords were moving towards Terra just like him, there was a feeling in the air, one that spelled conflict in the future, with the Clans or someone else he didn't know but he would find out.

Lantea System, Pegasus Galaxy
25th February 2066

The ship had arrived two days ago, two days that had passed in a blur, Helia had been engrossed with the wealth of data that Captain Beal had provided to her and her crew, she had watched as the smaller ships contained within the Vulcan's framework had undocked one by one until a small fleet was now orbiting the planet.

It amazed her how many ships there were when they all undocked, twenty two in total, two of which were transports of some kind, the rest warships, it had brought a frown to her face when it reminded her of the slow death of the Lantean people to the Wraith, her ship when first commissioned would have had a far larger crew than one hundred, the war had drained them as it ground on.

These Terrans were quick, ships were already patrolling the system, looking for the leftovers of her people, one of the satellite defence platforms had been found quickly, not surprising since they knew it was still there, plans and routes were already being drawn to retrieve the Aurora, it would calm her nerves when the more senior Captain was rescued, Ventus was a man of decisiveness and action, a far contrast to her more cautious approach to things.

They had yet to leave the system for fear of the Wraith, a caution she well understood, those creatures had won after all and even hibernating would be an extreme threat to the expedition, another folly of her once great people.

She gazed out the window of the cafeteria on the ship, the familiar landmasses of Lantea drifted far below, turning her head she observed her saviours again, those who had been left behind with the plague, Lantean scholars had believed everyone left behind must surely have succumbed but clearly they had not.

She knew little of that period of history, it was not something taught commonly and was only of real interest to the scholars, the plague was the only thing really covered but from her talks with the Terrans even that history seemed to be not the whole truth.

There was no public mention of the various classes based on psionic skills, even the Lanteans would have been considered beneath the Alteran masters it seemed, to think the Terrans had an actual living Alteran on their planet, she would love to talk to this Kyla Urbanus herself, hopefully soon.

The Terrans seemed to be a vibrant people, full of vigour and a desire to expand, warlike too she noted, their history painted a clear picture, much more violent than any Lantean, even the ships outside bristled with weaponry, primitive though they were they hit far harder and were tougher than expected.

They had the industry to match too, something that the Wraith had slowly crushed as they strangled the Lantean nation, the once mighty potentia forges that were the jewel of Lantea, massive facilities that ringed stars were all gone now, destroyed to deny them to the Wraith.

That had been the beginning of the end, the Lantean military slowly dwindled as supplies ran low, then the Wraith had bypassed the last defensive lines to strike at Atlantis directly, blockading the city and destroying the returning fleet piecemeal, there were no more shipyards, no more factories and the limited development of the seeded human nations meant there were no powerful allies to call for help, they were done.

The people remaining on Atlantis had elected to flee, sinking the city under the deep oceans of Lantea, she had been rushing back when the decision was made, it was too late so the only option was to try and cross the intergalactic void in the ship, a ship with a standard hyperdrive.

They knew how to build intergalactic drives but the need to have them had never appeared, her own ship lacked the supplies to modify the ships drive too so they were stuck, then the hyperdrive had burned out nearly half way there, the only choice was to move forward, maxing out the sublight drives and reaching near light speed, the journey would take over a million years in real time.

It was a good thing Captain Beal had found them, she didn't think the ship would last the journey, she expected to step into the stasis chamber and never wake up, a last hope for the hopeless, a painless death at least.

Now she was here, looking at the ocean where Atlantis once floated, in a galaxy controlled by the Wraith and in the company of Terrans with their psionics and superior strength, she had entertained taking control of the city when they arrived, she reconsidered when she realised how foolish such a decision would be.

Beal had taken her aside on the journey here, gave her access to secrets that were amazing even to her, she knew long ago that research had been done into alternate realities it was still strange to know people from one of those other places had come here, from the future no less, the so called Sheppard files had been enlightening in a rather dark manner, her heart sank when she read what had happened to her counterpart.

That information had cemented her decision, they would throw their lot in with the Terrans, one hundred people was far too few to be viable in any circumstances, even more so when the Wraith lurked overhead, not to mention the architects of her counterparts demise, their abandoned creations, the Asurans.

She still wanted to curl up into a ball and cry herself to sleep, the loss of all her friends and family was still fresh to her, they had spent all the time frozen in stasis while the ship had travelled, to her it had only been a few short weeks since they had fled, since everything had been destroyed.

"Captain Helia, report to the bridge", a voice announced over the ships internal comms system, it jolted her out of her spiralling thoughts, shaking her head with a sigh she cast one last look at the planet outside the window and stood up.

The interior corridors of the Vulcan were narrow and cramped, she had learned much of the ships construction on the journey here, it was all very ad hoc and it showed, but it had done its job and brought the small Terran contingent to the planet, she entered the bridge and cast her gaze over the crew, a mix of civilians and military she had been told, her eyes focused on the strangest member, Natalie, the Cylon.

She was still unsure of what to make of the cybernetic woman, the history of the Cylons didn't paint them in a good light but Beal seemed fond of her, she was human for the most part, their scanners could determine that, cloned flesh and strange bio organic implants in her brain coupled with a low power subspace transceiver, when she had asked she learned all about their resurrection ability, it was one way to achieve immortality she supposed.

"Ah, Captain Helia, glad you could join us", Captain Beal said cheerfully, he waved her over to him where he was engrossed looking at scan returns of the surface.

"See this here", he pointed to the screen, it was a mass of grey lines, almost like a height map, "Scans from the bottom of the ocean", he turned to her, "So far our sensors have failed to detect Atlantis or the under water geothermal power station"

Helia nodded, she knew of the plan even though she wasn't present, the shields had been tuned to prevent detection from orbit, the deep oceans also helped to hide Atlantis otherwise nothing would stop the Wraith from devising a method to retrieve the city, the immense pressures were something the species could handle easily.

"The city shields were adjusted to hide it from all known sensors, otherwise it would have been destroyed when the last of the populace evacuated to prevent it falling into Wraith hands"

Beal nodded, and tapped his finger on the small screen of his console, "Yes, you told me before but look at this outline in the silt, a familiar shape no?"

She traced a finger around the shape, she sighed, the Sheppard report was right again, the outline was familiar to her, a Wraith cruiser, "A Wraith cruiser, the one mentioned by Sheppard", she sighed, "I assume it means the queen is still alive too"

Beal nodded, "Right now we cant get to her but it does show us the general location of Atlantis, we know the geothermal station was located near the cruiser", he drew a large circle around the location of the cruiser on his screen, "The expedition should be arriving any time now too"

Beal sighed and leaned back in his chair, "Frankly, the wait is getting to me", he reached over and pressed a button changing his screen to the other habitable world in the system, Lampyris, "I sent a few ships over to check out the crashed Wraith supply transport, its there too, the survivor as well I assume"

Helia sighed, "I would advise against trying to capture those Wraith Captain, they are dangerous even when alone and posses the ability to affect the minds of others"

Beal nodded, "Noted, I'll leave that up to the Atlantis expedition,"

A beeping noise came from the communications station drawing all eyes to the operator, "Incoming transmission sir, from the planet"

Those words brought smiles to everyone's face, the Atlantis expedition had arrived.
