Seeing as the place causes a lot of grief, a helpful ASB decides to sever it's connection to the Eurasian landmass.

The new European beach will stretch from Constanta on the black sea
to Trieste on the Adriatic, following what was the Danube's route to OTL modern day Hungry, then follow the Hungarian and Slovenian borders to the Adriatic.

The stretch of sea will be a kilometer wide, with the Balkan island getting a bit of land filed off at the south-east to compensate.

The depth of the new sea channel will be ideal for large oceanic shipping.

So, what happens?

Bonus scenario 1, this occurs January 1st 1919

Bonus scenario 2: it occurs on January 1st 1989.

Slovenian borders
For clarity - Slovenian-Croat or Slovenian-Austrian/Italian borders?

I don't think Romania would care that much about Dobrudża rejoining the rest of Bulgaria.
I see Hungary building a battleship or carrier at some point - just because it CAN.

Border between Italy and Slovenia&Croatia is a bit different today than it was in 1919, this makes Italian position in newly conquered lands somewhat difficult as they need to fully rely on ship traffic, instead of rail&road traffic.

Mussolini build Big Bridge :)

But a very good point - I missed this entirely. For simplicity - maybe 1919 island has 1919 borders?
But that's for the OP to define :p

For even more(?) fun - 1914 borders ... in year of your choice ...

I initialy missed "Constanca" and imagine the split to run along the Danube from its mouth.
BTW - the Danube-Constaca Canal (in)conveniently runs NORTH of the King Karol bridge and the RR connection between Constanca and the rest of Romania ...

Serbia is fucked and unhappy - it looses Voivodina ...

Slovenia-Croatia.
OK. Istrja become yet another Italian exclave, then.
Trst (correct spelling of name :)) now has an even more picturesque than previously setting - i.e. at the tip of a peninsula - but otherwise dies as a city.

Another interesting factor would be geography some areas where the cut happens reach 2000 meters, does the land slope gradually towards sea level or do we get straight 90 degree cut, with erosion sloping it IRL?
Danube was a mayor transportation artery, with canal connecting it to Rhine, it ceases the function now, as Danube falls into sea channel in a magnificent waterfall and most cities along the new sea channel are considerable height above sea level, making ship transport quite difficult.

Anyway, the economic impact will be massive as all the road and railway connections are severed and for the time being only the old coast sea access will be viable. Budapest ceases to be single city, it's Budim and Pest again.

ROB provides some nice, sloping addons where necessary. No more than 100 meters in length with some flatness for the last 20 if it is too steep.

The Danube ends with a pretty 110m waterfall.
Nothing insurmountable - e.g. the Welland Canal has 100m difference in elevations.
