Warhammer 40K Necron tombworlds in Starcraft

To make a long story short, a handful of tombworlds belonging to one of the Necron Dynasties from Warhammer 40,000 wakes up to find themselves in the Koprulu Sector. Assume that they are one of the more reasonable dynasties and not part of the 'wants to kill everything that moves' club. How well do they stand up against the like of the Zerg, Protoss, and so on?

Scenario 1
Necrons wake up during early Starcraft 1.

Scenario 2
Necons wake up early in Starcraft 2.

PS: While the Dolman Gates/webway aren't brought over, recent novels still have the Necrons use the Inertialless drives as a method of FTL when the gates aren't around.

PSS: For sake of argument, I think we'll just say that the powers of the Light/Void are 'close enough' to how the Warp in 40k works that Necron technologies affect them in the same way.

I cant imagine there would be much in Starcraft that they'd have to worry about outside of hypothetically finding themselves in some kind of massively lopsided engagement, the top tier ass kickers in 40k have enough trouble dealing with Necrons on any scale.

Assuming reasonable?

Might have to refresh my 40k lore, but I recall that the Necrons, even if they don't want to kill all life in the galaxy, still normally want to take it all over. Most of them, at least.

As for how they stand up, however, I would say pretty well. They can't grow their numbers (or at least will hit a hard ceiling eventually,) but their forces are better, man for man (or protoss, or zerg.) Gauss Flayers are really tough and versitile in that regard. The question is whether any of the Starcraft Factions could bring enough numbers to bear against the Necrons to win in a fight - and what would cause them to do so?

Do you have a specific dynasty and goals for that dynasty in mind, @DarthOne ? That'll determine whether they are left alone or if everyone gangs up on them like they did the UED.

Honestly? I don't know nearly enough about StarCraft's scale to make a guess. From what I understood, the Terrans originally had just a few core worlds before StarCraft 2 retconned the extent of the Terran Dominion and the other players in the Korprulu Sector. Similarly, while the Protoss just had Auir, Shakuras, and a few outposts, the number of their outposts and the surviving tribes was expanded in Legacy of the Void... I think. Never got around to playing that one.

StarCraft has always been about balance. Each of the three races is viable in multiplayer, and by necessity that means that the Zerg, Terrans, and Protoss are roughly equal in military strength in the story. Otherwise, the Zerg would just steamroll bioball everyone and there would be no story.

So, judging from how tough the Necrons are in Warhammer 40K, I think a handful of tombs waking up is a curbstomp unless the Protoss or the Terrans can magic up a doomsday weapon. That's not out of the question. The Terrans are all about defeating threats with bullets and applied mad science, and the Protoss have their own weapons, as well as that one Xel Naga superweapon that was being used as a lawn decoration until the Protoss realized that it was an anti-Necron device.

If the Necrons wake up in the first game, they'd probably be reaching full strength during the third campaign, which makes narrative sense. The Necrons strike when both Arcturus Mengsk and the Overmind are victorious, but also weakened from their victories, so they're completely blindsided by the new threat. The Protoss are beaten, and possibly forced to retreat from Auir as the Necrons descend upon Auir to eradicate the heart of the Swarm. The Necrons face a severe setback, however. No matter how good they are at reducing organic matter to its constituent monoatomic gasses, the psionic nature of the Overmind and its cerebrates allows them to reincarnate. So long as the Swarm survives, the Overmind and its underlings shall as well.

Well, the Necrons have already killed their gods and then had a taxidermist stuff and mount the remains, so they could probably discover the trick to killing the Overmind in time. In the meantime, it's up to the Terrans or the Protoss to find a way to stop them for good.
