So a Kong vs. Godzilla trailer dropped on the Internets...

So... it looks like the plot of the story is... King Kong is fighting Godzilla. There actually appears to be some really in depth subplot regarding King Kong bonding with a little girl, Godzilla going violent, unknown triggers of why Kaiju be acting crazy, and egregious amounts of lore about Godzilla's and Kong's species and them being the last of their kind, all presented by a semi-star studded international cast of characters replacing the similar roles of characters from the previous films were couldn't be re-signed or killed off or simply forgotten already. All of this content which no one really cares about might take up most of the movie but thankfully as the trailer helpfully illustrates, there will be at least some monster vs. monster action.

They'll fight on an aircraft carrier. They'll fight in a city. They'll fight in the gentle rain of conventional explosives. The trailer is so helpful it'll even show us how King Kong can negate that Godzilla Atomic Breath which you'd think could one shot any giant ape and reveals King Kong will use his Great Weapon proficiency which maybe unlocked later in the film. Thank you for that trailer and you can thank me for telling you all this as well. :p

With all that said, the trailer looked 'cool' but then again Monsterverse trailers always look cool. I'm fairly underwhelmed, not due to the Monster Action, but because of what seems like will be another meandering plot populated with annoying humans. Now I KNOW all of the classic Godzilla movies have even more annoying human sub plots sometimes ranging from cool to campy, but Toho Kaiju movies are their own things. I don't mind a story with my Monster flicks, but the story should facilitate and heighten the enjoyment of what should be awesome monster brawls... IMHO.

The film, being Warner Bros/Media, will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on an expected release date of May 21st, 2021.

What I want to know is why Godzilla is deliberately attacking Kong's weapon, and tracking its position for the full duration of his breath, rather than aiming for the much easier target that is a giant gorilla.

I want yall to look at rhe forst 4 to ten seconds of the trailer. Play in slow mo...

Also, look at toy leaks to see what all the most likely plot is..

I read it as "Godzilla is trying to hit Kong, but Kong is tracking Godzilla's laser and blocking it with his weapon before it can hit him."

I can't believe it took me this long to realize they're pulling the same bait-and-switch the original Mecha-G film used. Do you think they'll use the same jazzy theme?

Maybe a remix of it

The lyric hook heavy rap music playing over the trailer could use a remix already. It sounds so loud and distracting it verges on obnoxious for me. :p

Yeah, I'm gonna watch this. Seems like fun popcorn-trash.

Entire charm of older japaneese movies was becouse you saw that there are people in costumes fighting each others and destroing toy buildings.
Now,with special effects,it is not the same.

Well, I for one am going to try and see it opening night.

Big monsters hitting each other.
No story needed. Humans can be horrible actors.
I just wanna see them fight

I wouldn't mind a story at all, but it should be Kaiju based. Like Captain America: Civil War but instead of Captain America versus IronMan it's King Kong versus Godzilla as they duke it out over the Monsterverse version of the Seatopia Accords or some nonsense.

Then all of the Kaiju have to choose a side.

It does... It's just Legendary Pictures has done this three times already. With Godzilla 2014, Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of Monsters and they always cut away from the Monsterous Kaiju action and throw in all of this puny human ensemble cast babble and story fluff that I can never, ever be interested in. The actors and their performances are fine and whatever I guess, but I just don't care about their silly Human problems. I just need enough story for the drama to be amped up for the Monster clashes.

I don't care about the stupid antiwar reporter, or SLJ's PTSD whining and all of those hypercompetent civilians and retarded military types in Kong Skull Island or the Ecological Terrorist nonsense from the latest film. It's all boring and cliche. Just cut lots of it out and show more monster action... and if you need verbal exposition, then make it minimal and directed. Like in the last film, they showed Washington DC with all of its iconic monuments being destroyed in like a single minute long scene. They didn't spend anytime introducing the Oxygen Destroyer... it just turned up somehow.

Instead we spent an hour hanging out with Charles Dance and his merry band of eco-terrorist special forces flying around on their 10,000 mile range Ospreys knocking off Monarch facilities and getting into boring gunfights and being an accessory to Stranger Things girls family drama... which was less interesting then the family drama from Godzilla 2014 because Bryan Cranston is a way better actor. I don't mind plot stuff... I liked the opening scene with Mothra... I liked the awakening of Rodan... I liked the ten seconds of seeing Washington DC being destroyed... and Godzilla and Ghidorah throwing down in the end was great.

I liked Ken Watanabe engaging in scenery chewing and talking things out with the military in the Godzilla 2014 movie as well. It had more purpose. I liked the Special Forces HALO jumping into the MUTO devastating city to blow up the eggs. I liked the Honolulu scene. It didn't just feature monster fighting the whole time and helped tell the story from the human perspective without endless babbling about extraneous plot baggage.

But this movie, I'm a sucker so I'm going to still watch it in spite of the fact I feel it's going to be more of the same. Because I'm a sucker for the Monsterverse apparently. Far more then I would be with crap like Pacific Rim 2 or WB's DCEU.

Monsterverse has good directors who have a name to uphold. Legendary wants to keep Godzila rights, so they have to impress toho

You will love it if you like monster fights.
Yes there are still cuts during the final one. It isn't every couple seconds and holy shit does it feel like a kaiju movie.
And they actually do damage to everything unlike in PR2

Yeah I saw the movie Saturday night, yesterday, with a young in and while they thought it was the greatest movie ever and keeps saying "One must fall" over and over again, I will say this might be the best Monsterverse film yet. Godzilla 2014 might be the best crafted movie but this one actually delivered on the monster action... after three substandard attempts.

I did like the movie, it was entertaining. It's still deeply flawed but it was better then the last two Monsterverse movies. If you want actual Kaiju fighting onscreen, this film will not disappoint. With that said, despite being two hours long or whatever (actually it was probably shorter) it could've cut a LOT out... and all of that it could've cut out was Human plotlines. Like one of the two Human plotlines was dumb and derivative and felt like it could've been excised or cut from the movie almost in its entirety. With that said the other plotline was pretty interesting with the Humans interacting with King Kong and dealing with Kong stuff and their wacky journey.

There were huge leaps of logic, random things thrown in, things that happened before the movie and offscreen to setup plots here that weren't even hinted at in previous films and all of the other nonsense that splashy, bloated, expensive blockbuster movies do nowadays... but this one is better because at least one of the two storylines was interesting (or fun) despite all of the flaws... and actually showed long Kaiju battles which is what this series is supposed to be about instead of cutting to boring Human shit and their shitty Human problems. The main improvement of this film is the Human drama exists SOLELY to bring Kaiju to fight each other as the Kaiju Gods intended.

You can also see them fighting. No more quick shots and cuts and snow levels or places covered in mist or fog or smoke or perpetual night battles. Everything is bright, even in the neon night cities so you can actually see them fighting.

This film could've been easily two movies (though probably not because of the Toho license lol). Godzilla was cool but this was Kong's movie. Both were great though. Godzilla was almost anthropomorphized in the previous films, even the first one, as being almost too personable and the like. In this one though, he's the King Lizard that he should be and far less relatable and more ornery then ever.

Also I saw the movie in theaters and the theater surround sound was AMAZING. Super loud... but amazing.

I thought it was bad to be honest, although the monster fights were good. The poor acting, lack of a coherent plot and the mediocre world building attempts though just ruined it for me; one thing that bothered me, and admittedly this is a minor detail, is how when Godzilla makes landfall in the final city they say they are evacuating everyone....only to show well into the fight people having to stop their dinner in a skyline restaurant to run in terror. To cap that off, as the second fight in said city occurs in the daytime, people are still being shown to be walking the streets like normal until the Kaiju action spreads to them.
