I suppose I should almost be a little salty considering my own exit from the AFROTC program, which amounted to them raising the bar on me, saying that they were commissioning too many officers and I simply wasn't competitive enough anymore since I didn't do so well at field training and was not the uber-cadet they idealized since I was mostly concerned with trying to earn an engineering degree. But considering what I've seen of the Air Force since then, I'm kind of glad I never commissioned.

I feel for ya pal. Back when I was in High School I was told by an Air Force recruiter quote unquote I was not up to Air Force Standards. The Army, Navy and Marine Corps Recruiters on the other hand were falling over each other to recruit me. I think the Chair Force is just fucking weird.

Something I heard recently, not sure how true it is. Apparently a recruiter told a friend of mine that the Air Force and Navy would provide a $50k signing bonus if you served six years, and you wouldn't have to complete basic training if you had a degree, you could jump straight to officer school.

If this is true then it probably means that their volunteers are drying because of all the politics. It'd also be monumentally stupid in terms of maintaining a functioning professional force.
In the Army is you have a Bachelor's and you have at least a 110 GT you can go to OCS which has its own Basic like thing at Fort Knox

Fight jock mafia has no need for anything but the best, plebs.

Just please ignore the A-10 squadrons and bomber command.

One of my cousins was the head JAG officer at the AF Academy years back, and the way they treated recruits...sometimes funny, sometimes stupid (forcing cadets to stand through AF Falcon games).

My sister has a story about the civie soccer camp the Academy and how she caused a green recruit/underclassman to panic and freak out because my cousin wanted to just say hi while my sister was at the camp. My sister wasn't in her room, because she was with a few friends in their room, and the poor cadet damn near scoured the whole campus for her. The poor underclassman/cadet thought my sister had fucked up bad, as why else would the head JAG guy want to see her, and when my sister said she would go see the JAG guy later (she knew she wasn't in trouble and he would understand waiting till the next day) the cadet nearly had to drag her to his office just before he left for the day.

When said cadet realized the JAG head just wanted to say hi to one of his cousins, and the cadet had been freaking out over nothing, both my cousin and sister had a good laugh before dismissing the cadet.

One of the reasons I never wanted to go to any of the Academies. The bulk of my Family save for my Cousin Cornell who was a Captain in the US Army were all Enlisted. And I got a load of........... All the colorful dumbassery Academy types get up to when they get to the real military.

A she, but yeah. it is possible, there is a LTC who is uh....not liked, by the same people who like the COL. Then again the LTC was apperently the same when he was enlisted, and the COL was only ever Officer

The "Fat Leonard" saga has turned a new page.

Business Insider said:
Donald Hornbeck, 61, admitted to accepting the gifts from Malaysian businessman Leonard Glenn Francis, nicknamed "Fat Leonard."

In exchange, Hornbeck shared confidential information with Francis and helped steer Seventh Fleet business to ports servicesd by Francis' ship husbanding company that serviced US Navy ships in the Asia Pacific region.

Authorities say that Francis overbilled the Navy over the years by over $35 million.

According to the Department of Justice, Francis picked up the bill for Hornbeck and others in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Japan, and Bangkok, Thailand, treating them to luxury hotels and lavish dinners of Wagyu beef lobster and caviar in top restaurants. In May 2008, in Manilla, the Philippines, he paid for a "multi-day party" that included sex workers.

Earlier that month, Francis hosted dinner at Mezza9 in Singapore, after which, Francis arranged for several sex workers to entertain Hornbeck and others, said the DOJ. The following day, Hornbeck emailed Francis to say thank you for a fantastic dinner. "Also really enjoyed my new Mongolian Friend," a reference to a sex worker, to which Francis noted: "Hot Mongolian Barbeque Ribs!"

Thirty four military officials have been indicted with twenty nine pleading guilty. The Malaysian contractor, "Fat" Leonard Francis, pled guilty to bribery charges himself back in 2015 but still awaits sentencing.

It's that region of the world, it's a Navy officer, and sex workers.

Yes they are. Have you seen their Barracks. They live in the Hilton while the Army, Navy and Marines get Motel 6.

I only tried to enlist in the army twice, so no I had no idea.

1. Italy. I was considered mentally unfit. But I was a cringe emo-like (mentally, not aesthetically) deathseeker.
2. I was about to join the Brazilian Army but my father managed to find another job (this was before I UNDERSTOOD he was an asshole).

As that one parody of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure noted, if the people of that generation knew how bad it would get, they'd reject liberal movements like MLK and Milk out of hand.
