China blocked a UN Security Council measute to issue a condemnation of the Military coup in Myanmar, stating it is an internal affair. The CCP further stated that sanctions and other measures would simply worsen the situation.

Shocking... I know.

There have been five straight days of protests which apparently have only been getting larger as this Saturday thousands took to the streets banging pots and pants, uttering pro-democracy and anti-military dictatorship slogans and clad in red, the colors of Suu Kyi's NLD party.

These protests have been growing in spite of a widespread internet ban across the country, along with intentional power outages and other measures meant to suppress the growing dissent. Already Facebook (which half of the Burmese previously had accounts with) was blocked in the country with the internet crackdown spreading to Twitter and Instagram as well. Twitter engagement from Myanmar is down to 16% of what it was pre-coup. Meanwhile state run media outlets have been continually praising the military.

Suu Kyi was charged with illegally importing six walkie-talkie style radios into the country while President Win Myint was charged with violating WuFlu restrictions. The military junta announced it would only be a year long state of emergency followed by handing over power after new elections.

I wonder when Rambo is going to walk in and clean up the whole country with his bow and arrows?

I mean....this seems pretty normal in the world.
Seems like something from the 70s or 80s more then modern but hey, let's head back there and have some fun right?

I feel bad for these people

Looks like the whole affair is escalating and despite the Junta's best hopes, it just won't go away. Its been estimated that eighteen people have been killed and over thirty seriously wounded in these protests. It's a far cry from the extremely bloody and repressive measures the Burmese Junta utilized back in the 8888 Uprisings and even a decade ago but it does seem like the violence is gradually escalating even as the military attempts to act more restrained.

The Trade Unions are getting in on the action, calling for a general strike in protest of the Junta and its efforts. This comes in the wake of the death of an NLD official while in police custody.

Gulf Times said:
Meanwhile, an official from the party of deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi died overnight in police custody.
National League for Democracy (NLD) official Khin Maung Latt had worked as a campaign manager for one of two Muslim MPs elected in 2020.

The United Nations believes government authorities have killed more then fifty people since protests began early last month in the wake of the Junta mass arrests of NLD officials including Aung San Suu Kyi.

Let's see... Military coups the democratically elected government. China supports the new/old, unpopular military junta. The populace seethes under the time.

Will China have its own Vietnam War or Afghan War on its border? Hard telling. But it looks like China may be forced to provide more and more support for a government increasingly isolated from its own people.

I honestly don't know what's on their minds there when the coup happened.

It's begun.
