There is a reason why even before the woke infiltration in terms of global intel agencies the reputation CIA had, especially in non-technological matters, was not great, it certainly was no Mossad even back then.

The border-conflict might be starting because of water problems in Iran, since an important river passes in Afghanistan and it seems to be dammed on the Afghan side. The Taliban also need to deal with the fact that a large section of the population is Shia Muslim in Hazarajat, not to mention the issue that they have large consent of the population but is not universal otherwise the NSF wouldn't exist, there wouldn't have been protests just shortly after their rule ,granted they got crushed, but you may take that the ones doing the protesting knew the outcome and just said fuck it because they had nothing to loose. Also not even their former backers in Pakistan (because the Taliban REALLY don't like the Durand line and the Pakistanis have shit of their own now to deal with) are that much fond of them anymore and the other countries that border them are terrified of an expansionist totalitarian theocracy.

Right now they are basically slapping each other on the face. If Iran's leadership it's smart they will defend the border and just try to hit the Talibans "Katyusha style" from their positions. Maybe even lend a hand to Hazaras and the NRF or anyone really that wants to piss off Kabul's "central" "government". They could try to bribe much less loyal members of the Taliban "alliance" and it would surprise me if they are not at least considering it.

I don't know what they have been smoking because if you spoke to any average Iranian diaspora member or expat there is a chance they will rather stick with Tehran despite whatever they might think of the government. Had Tehran declared war on Kabul it might have been different though.

Seems like exactly what i predicted is happening.
The faction against withdrawing from Afghanistan was probably grifting for money, but their argument was that Afghanistan would become a problem for the region if left to the Taliban.
My counterpoint was... ok, look at a map, look at what countries Afghanistan neighbors, it's not like the Taliban will build strategic bombers or ICBMs after all.
Generally not countries whose comfort USA particularly cares about, often quite the opposite.

Looks like being stuck with a shitpoor country not being showered by western aid the Taliban are trying to get stuff from of their neighbors the only way they know - threats.

The US-led anti-ISIS coalition is building a new military base in Syria's northern province of Raqqa, The New Arab reported, citing a source close to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The US backs the SDF and keeps about 900 troops (officially at least) in eastern Syria, allowing the US to control about one-third of Syria's territory. The report said there are currently about 24 US-led military sites spread throughout eastern Syria.

While the US says it's in Syria to fight ISIS, the presence is part of Washington's economic war against Damascus, which includes crippling economic sanctions.
ISIS also holds no significant territory, and the Syrian government and its allies would continue to fight the remnants of the terror group if the US withdrew.
But the construction of a new base demonstrates the US plans to continue the occupation indefinitely. In March, the House voted down a resolution introduced by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) that would have ordered President Biden to withdraw from Syria. The legislation failed in a vote of 103-321, with 56 Democrats and 47 Republicans voting in favor of the bill.
The House also recently voted to maintain sanctions on Syria after an earthquake killed thousands of Syrians. Only two members of Congress voted against the legislation.
The US could come under pressure to withdraw from Syria and lift sanctions on the country as more and more regional countries are normalizing ties with the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

It's a very messy and complicated situation. They are keeping the oil fields, officially from islamists, practically from everyone including islamists, and it just so happens that it's one of the areas Kurds hold, together with them. Sultan is not stupid enough to start a fight with US forces.
