I find it darkly amusing that Leftards' attempts at being anti-racist have resulted in them being racist and discriminatory intersectionists: the sad thing is that they can't even see it.

Oh, I guarantee you they see it - all the noises they make about not seeing it are just gas-lighting. This just illustrates the odd fairy-tale version of Natives that leftists seem to believe in, at least whenever they're reminded that Natives even exist, for that matter. I was wondering what was bothering me when I woke up this morning but after reading this, I feel a lot better and more enriched today.

I actually don't care about teams having to change their names and logos as I never found the arguments for having them to be all that compelling. I'll agree that all the others are pretty stupid, though. The Land O'Lakes change was literally over one complaint from someone who wasn't even Native. And it opened them up to the perfect comeback: "Figures, they kept the land and got rid of the Native." Also the Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben decisions are really insulting when one is aware of the actual history there, but we are talking about an ideology that makes a point of ignoring history.

The host of a Slate podcast, "The Gist" named Mike Pesca was suspending a few days ago over a debate about the use of a racial slur and whether it would be appropriate to use in certain circumstances. Of course he didn't say this in a podcast or anything, but in a Slack discussion talking about a NYT reporter who was suspending for his job after repatedly using a racial slur during a student trip two years ago.

The New York Times reported that Pesca, who is white, was suspended indefinitely after getting into a debate on Slack regarding Times reporter Donald McNeil, who was recently suspended for repeatedly using a racial slur during a 2019 student trip.

Pesca reportedly argued that there were contexts in which the slur could be used. Dan Check, Slate's chief executive, quickly stopped the discussion, the Times reports.

The Podcast is currently on hold as Slate investigates... a discussion... in Private... regarding another person... using this mysterious anti-Black slur.

I also recognize there are many people who are against this notion of “cancel culture” --who argue the recent surge in voices speaking up against injustice and systemic oppression are just those who wish to do away with beautiful relics of our country’s history and past.

But racism, bigotry, and hatred should never be celebrated, even in the writing of some of our most celebrated authors. There are too many other stories to be told, voices to be heard, and books to be read that are just as capable as any by Dr. Seuss to inspire young minds and reflect all readers.

According to research done by the nonprofit education, research, and policy organization the Conscious Kid in 2018 , “100% of the characters of color in the 50 Dr. Seuss children’s books we studied are portrayed through subservience, dehumanization, exotification, stereotype and/or caricature…98% of the characters are white. The books are narrated by white characters and white characters have all the speaking roles. Characters of color remain silent…” These statistics are not reflective of the modern classroom.
