The disproportionate focus on the supposed epidemic of abuse by clergy is indeed misplaced (and maliciously motivated). However, we do need to consider that there are far more public school employees in the USA than there are Catholic priests. The numbers are readily available online.

Plugging those into the calculator, I find that roughly 0.75% of public school employees molest kids, and roughly 0.5% of Catholic priests molest kids.

But that doesn't make for a good headline.
