They weren't wrong about rising sea levels being a problem. See: Miami, where a higher than average tide can flood parts of the city or the Netherlands, where much of the country is below sea level.

That was also written over three decades ago, i.e: back when emission controls were much more primitive and a lot of cities had smog problems they don't have anymore.

Much of the Netherlands is below the sea level because much of the Netherlands originally was below the sea level. It had a lot of land reclaimed from sea since 1300s:

Out of curiosity, I showed this to an NPC of sorts that I know....this was the reply:
That the guy is taking out of his ass?

What it means to be an individual and what is a right has varied greatly from region of the world, time period, etc.

So they basically means what human rights and individuality are a shifting scale based on the prevailing moral compass of the society as well as the interests at the time.

We can philophicly debate that for ages, I have, and I am sure we as a species will continue to do so for millina to come.

But for the sake of argument I’ll concede, themeaticly; the cux of his comment many have been the moral starting point for the founding our our nation (again debatable)

But he is ignoring that our actions, as a nation, are much tell a much different story.

Such as the treatment indigenous population and culture along with the historical treatment of immigrants (and yes I am including the Italian and Irish) really shows a very different picture. That we have always forced conformity to what the in power white population saw as normal while doing our up most to strip the individuality of the others. Forcing them to give us very unique aspects of what there identity is.

You have even experience that to some degree, before being a nerd was accept able you where mocked, bullied, etc for finding it interesting. Now imagine that on a population based scale for generations.

That is what they mean by a white supremacy system. In that while we preach individuality and self expression what they really mean is “you can express what makes the white majority comfortable”

This ignores the much of the social economic issues that there were litter laws in places to make sure remained. That tools years of legal combat to over turn while a massive paradime shift was occurring in the culture concous (edited)

I’m not saying that supporting of individuality is morally wrong, I’m flat at saying we has a country rarely if ever actually did it. And while that may have been the banner under which the rebellion was started it was more propaganda then actual intent. That that propaganda did take root and allow for change as it became part of the cultural identify.

I am talking about the modern era…. Legally enforced segregation was officially ended in the 60s. That is less then 70 years ago. There are people a live today that lived that experience (edited)

This also ignores the that for one to truly embrace individuality requires a state, be it mental, physical, or economical, of stability and safety that can only been gained by support or mandate of the society in question.

Best thing about working with people who were living in a pre-9/11 world, and were in the military in that
And us Centennials, the group that were born in the late 80's and grew up in the 90's golden age, being babies at the end of the Cold War and not knowing it's strife, saw everything change on us in matter of weeks. We saw mindsets alien to us, but familiar to people who lived through both WW2 and Vietnam re-emerge in our society, and martial fervor take hold that we didn't know enough to question the long term implications of.

I remember a time I could walk out on the flight line of the local general av airport, walk up to parked Cessna's and such, and no one would care as long as we were not messing with anything. We could go out to the concourses at big airports and have a meal while watching the planes come in during sunset, without needing tickets or needing to wait for an hour to go through security.

I remember a time I could launch Estes rockets down at a local park on a Saturday without worrying about possibly pissing off the local FAA and LEOs for scaring people who might mistake it for a terrorist attack or screwing up airspace usage rules.

I remember that time and what we have lost as a society, nation, and world, and it's a big part of why I have very little faith our nation can be salvaged from the current mess, with the current generation of youth never knowing what it was like before the Towers Fell.

Hindsight has laid bare how 9/11 was used as the first stepping stone on the road to the 1984-type hell humanity is headed for now thanks to the Wu Flu, unless things change significantly.

The elite and powers in DC are trying to manage our nation's decline like you do with a terminal patient, and fleecing the middle class to build their golden parachutes, not help us recover.
The middle class has noticed. THey overplayed their hand, and their bluff isn't going to work

Not even a real terminal patient, its like that case in the 2000s where the hospice gave a patient powerful painkillers to a mans wife in order to claim she is brain dead and then terminate her.
