One problem I have reading fiction is that I like speculative stuff, which often involves survival scenarios. The problem is, I actually have a solid grounding in woodcraft and survival and have done it a few times myself so it destroys my suspension of disbelief when a supposed skilled survivor does something utterly stupid like eating a whole unknown root to see if it's poisonous or not*. I've kinda learned to ignore that reflex just to enjoy the stories, though.

Then I run into stuff like this, where a dude apparently is so poor at even the most basic concept of survival he thinks 99% of humanity doesn't know how to boil water.

*There's actually a pretty involved process in testing an unknown plant, starting with rubbing a moistened piece of it inside your elbow to test for tingling and ending by eating just a few bites and waiting until the next day for signs of discomfort or illness.

Ultimately testing a new plant for safety of consumption takes days of careful observation of yourself, and normally it's not worth the effort unless there's a really big supply in easy reach such as numerous fruit-laden trees or a whole field of roots. Unknown meat is much, much safer in survival situations as the number of creatures with toxic flesh is vanishingly low and they're generally brightly colored. Plants love them some poison though, so plants are usually the last resort if you expect rescue in any reasonable timeframe.

Dude on the tweet has a point but he is making is very badly. Like you say even the majority of peoplr with near 0 survival skills knows enough from common sense and simple practical axioms not to just drink any water and try to avoid spoiled food.

A fat more likely scenario is a majority of people hanging on for a few weeks, not able to keep up with the physical exercise needed to survive without modern infrastructure and end up dying when they get a nick on their knee infected that their malnutrition ridden body can't fight without antibiotics. (it's actually not that easy to die of hunger. It is, however, very easy for a virus or bacteria to overwhelm your imune system if you skimp on the budget for your army. So a virus you wouldn't evwn know you had caught and beat before turns into a pneumonia and game ends you)

General rule with survivial situations is that a lot of people die in the first 6 days, more die in the first 6 weeks and if you manage to survive 6 months then by then enough organziation has come back that your going to survive for much longer.

The health side does matter but hey, if you like "more cushin to the pushin" more power to you. A sumo wrestler can easily be more than 140lbs heavier than I am and the largest ones (~550lbs or more) make the gal from the posted meme look skinny.

No, most aspects of appearance don't flow from personality. I can not change the fact that it takes is a dress and wig for me to look like a MILF. My wife can not change the fact that she's black and naturally grows an afro which would laugh at Darnell "Dr. Dunk" Hillman's "you can't guard me" afro.

Those two examples would fall outside the "most" caveat.

Although I'd argue you could change your feminine appearance by hitting the gym and building muscle. That fact that you don't implies that either you want to have your current appearance, or don't care enough to change it.

I have better things to do than spend hours upon hours at a gym.

I'm a father of two and already about the same height and weight as roughly 30% of the guys who play NFL football*. I am old, fat, don't give a shit, and have nothing left to proove. I'm also tall and skinny when compared to most American guys.

* Defensive backs and wide recievers. They're a lot smaller than you imagine.

45 minutes to an hour 3 times a week at the gym is enough to be a total game changer in your life.

It makes you healthier, and makes you feel better, in addition to making you look better.

You don't have to give a shit, or spend "hours upon hours," but acting like it's because you have something to prove, when in reality, it's just a form of self care, is ridiculous.

In fact, for me in my younger years, it totally eliminated the feeling of needing something to prove, and your post screams more of having something to prove than taking care of yourself physically would.

Not everyone has to spend 6 days a week in the gym like people like myself choose to do. I just do it because it keeps my mental health in check. It's good for you get get some good HARD exercise in, a few times a week, though.

Ironically, @bintananth's argument actually proved @Doomsought's point: His appearance flows from his personality which thinks even minimal exercise is too much work.
