They do know Europeans were drunks for most of thier history right and killed each other a lot. Being fat didn't even help women much unless you were rich. Even then they were kept on the skinnier side. Bigger people were usually the elite males of society

For most of history, Beer and whine was drunk watered down. Also being fat was a status symbol by the fact that you had the wealth and access to food needed to become fat.
I dont think Mead was trunk watered dowm

So it turns out fighting obesity is racist now... I always suspect Michelle Obama was racist when she made healthy weight a priority.

non-paywall copy here:

That was written by an associate professor of Sociology, so no medical merit at all.

Oh gosh... The New Republic issued an unintentional comedy article about how there's no Liberal outlets for news anymore thanks to the propagation of paywalls and now there's "news deserts" or some bullshit in the world.

Please play small violin music as we read this:

The New Republic said:
But conservative propaganda tends to make up in volume and reach for what it lacks in efficiency and persuasiveness. As the Times reports, one of the stories from this network of sites, a smear job on a man killed by Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha, Wisconsin, “was shared 22,000 times on Facebook, reaching up to 2.6 million people.” The effect of such content is probably felt less in any particular viral story than in the aggregate: People across the country are exposed constantly to news that may seem objective but that has, baked into it, right-wing values and assumptions. They get it in everything from this scammy network to Sinclair television stations to Fox News.

and it goes on...

The New Republic said:
Ideally, liberal-minded wealthy people would fund not low-cost content mills but actual top-tier, locally oriented reporting and analysis across the country. But, as mentioned, very few are willing to do this at a perpetual loss.

The left, broadly defined, has a very real need for mass-oriented, unapologetically political media. It will not create or sustain that media with the help of wealthy donors or an ad-based business model. The obvious other answer is subscriptions and paywalls.

Yes, there is a shocking dearth of liberal news media outlets. The focus, deceptively, is on "local" news outlets and that Right Wing news websites get as much play through mediums such as Facebook. It still ignores the fact that most national and regional news outlets, whether in print or television and largely online, are slanted to the Left and liberal axis.

Alas... there is still hope for the disappearing liberal news outlets... the New Zealand model.

(Conversely, The Guardian recently noted that New Zealand, which has its share of fascists but has successfully frozen them out of any meaningful political power, has no Rupert Murdoch–owned media.)

The fact that we are all watching, in real time, as the institution of journalism is replaced by corporate P.R. and right-wing propaganda is not a problem in need of solutions from business schools, consulting firms, or Silicon Valley. It is a democratic problem, in need of a democratic solution. The paywall will save The Atlantic. It has already failed to save American journalism.

Just freeze the Right out of power via "democratic solutions" and we will save American journalism.

Ok here is the reason why liberal news out lets hell the media in general are having problems.

Most news major news companies are chasing 13% of the population and delliberately tell every one else to fuck off.

13% 10% and even 5% of the population is enough to keep quite a few lights on but it isnt enough to sustain an entire industry either the industry as a whole becomes less woke or they have to accept a shrinking media to deal with economic reality.

Honestly the die off is invitable too many people chasing an ever shrinking market.

You can chase .0001% of the population if it’s the right group, which is what they are begging for. “Journalists” these days spend their time looking for someone to pay them to write stories that suit their political leanings, why bother investigating when you can just get a sugar daddy and circular cite.

Don't any of you see the problem here? There's no liberal donors that are supporting liberal journalism out there. There's no Jeff Bezos supporting The Washington Post or Carlos Slim funding the New York Times or Ariana Huffington for the Huffington Post, or Kenneth Lerer for Buzzfeed or Michael Bloomberg for Bloomberg News, or Chris Hughes/Win McCormack for The New Republic (which posted the above article) and there's no powerful hedge funds like Warner Media funding CNN, or Comcast sponsoring NBC Universal or the Graham Family supporting Slate etc.

It's all just Rupert Murdoch owning everything... and those dastardly Fulan Gong people who own the Epoch Times. 😭

I'm laughing because that algorithmically produced news he's moaning about was pioneered by Buzzfeed. A notorious Right-wing outlet as we all know. Either this idiot is legitimately clueless or he's just another propaganda hack.

Very true. I think we're at the point in the ideological spiral where people are ignorant because they only believe the propaganda, and then push more propaganda.
In the Trump era, the existing liberal tendency for double standards was crystalized. History, facts, and principles don't matter, only the question of 'does this help or hurt Trump?'

As we can see, this effect is going to outlast Trump by a long time.
