Just saw the first episode of Hawkeye. Immediate thoughts, it was pretty fun. :)

Even the fight choreography and set pieces which have been really subpar compared with the MCU movies (obviously) but even in comparison with say the Netflix Marvel or Mandalorian stuff seems a cut better in this one. We're not getting the bloody and brutal grit of DareDevil or Punisher or the like, but it's better action. And unlike Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the fact that this series is more comedic in tone presumably makes it more appropriate.

Plus Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner are just fun to watch. Great actors portraying fun and fleshed out characters. Can't wait to see them share the screen together in future episodes!

Apparently Spider-man: No Way Home is at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with the critical reviews.

So far only the elites have been able to watch it though so we'll see how it hashes out with the main consumer audience. I too, have made little secret I wanna see it despite the current state of the MCU at the moment. Eternals was the first MCU film I didn't even bother watching in theaters AFAIK but this new Spider-man film looks like it'll be a pretty thick load of fan service and nostalgia which isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as the movie turns out good in spite of it.

I took the kids to see Eternals. It was the perfect example of NIMBY (not in my back yard).

Not sure yet if I'm going to take the kids to any more Disney at all. Not until the woke Disney gets OUT of bed with China.

Well for a change of pace after being disappointed by literally every Disney+ Television show, I will say having seen the first four episodes of Hawkeye is that it's pretty decent still. It's got the same limitations as every other Disney show in being far smaller scale, lower budget and not having that sense of epicness despite having these amazing heroes that you've seen in movie after movie doing cool stuff, but that's more then made up for with the tone and strong characters.

Hawkeye and Kate Bishop are just a fun pair to be around and so is the character interactions they have with other people such as the LARPers or even Kate's Mother and Stepfather, and Clint Barton's entire family dynamic with a very supportive Wife and kids who aren't shown much, but seem exceptionally non-annoying. The villains are kind of a wash so far, but their place in the ongoing storyline, exploring the ramifications and fallout of the whole Ronin adventures Clint engaged in that was briefly shown in Avengers: Endgame.

It's a fun show because even with the subpar fight choreography and action scenes (in comparison with the MCU films or Netflix shows) it's still fun to watch the banter and interactions, and the fact that we have a worn down veteran and very green rookie taking on street level threats. Also the awkward car chases, locations and amazingly amusing use of trick arrows makes up for any shortfalls in the action.

Best of the Marvel Disney+ stuff by far IMHO four episodes in.

After a big ol social media campaign last week, #SaveDaredevil on Twitter being the main example, Kevin Feige confirmed that Daredevil, as portrayed by Charlie Cox on Netflix's three seasons of DareDevil, will be returning to the MCU.

Finished Hawkeye. I do feel it was the best of the Disney Marvel live action series. It might've been better then some of the Netflix Marvel shows.

The main weaknesses of this show are like I stated before and are in the other shows as well. It's not as epic as MCU movies and not as gritty as the Netflix shows.

The latter is especially telling in this episode. The violence and action and storytelling you can tell in a story made for kids and up instead of teens and up is noticeable. Also the villains here are just as underwhelming as in the other shows.

But it's mitigated because this is a "street level" story. There's no reality warping, multiversal time travel or world threatening terrorism going in. It's city level criminal fallout at best.

We don't have Loki's fighting random Human level thugs or Falcon and Winter Soldier getting bested by Super Activists. Hawkeye and friends are fighting criminals and hitmen and ninjas etc. It works.

And the humor works for the most part as does the light hearted tone. The previous series took themselves too seriously for what was going on. And in Hawkeye the characters didn't suffer from power decay as dramatically as Loki or Falcon/Bucky etc. And they were more fun and relatable and endearing here.

The only other drawback was the light hearted tone did impact some of the emotional beats in the final episode. I still got feels for what happened though because of the acting and the like in spite of it though.

So overall I'd recommend. This is what Disney Plus shows should be... Smaller scale type of stories. (y)

In my opinion, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings did not feel like an MCU film at all. It felt like a Hollywood knockoff wuxia film with a bunch of awkward MCU cameos badly shoehorned into it. It did have a few good character moments and some *very* impressive visuals and effects, but these simply could not make up for a mediocre, cliche-filled plot.

the only movies that could possibly benifit form the live action treatment are The Black Cauldron, Treasure Planet, and maybe Atlantis: The Lost Empire. and that's only because said movies got royally hosed by the mouse, they deserve a 2nd chance in the spotlight

Bluntly, live action remakes of Disney's worst flops is *not* a bet any sane studio executive would make.

The production of that movie was sabotaged from the word go, and the audience and expectations for Disney are different now then they were in the 80s. Pirates of the Caribbean would have been a flop if they tried making it at the time, they did black cauldron.

The Black Cauldron wasn't just a flop, it was a catastrophic box office bomb that nearly killed Disney's entire animated unit.

75% of the film wasn't even in the same setting as a Wuxia film. Its settings were modern San Francisco (minus the homeless, Black White Supremacist anti-Asian hate crimes and human feces) and modern Macau and the Ten Rings mountaintop fortress.

And there was like one MCU cameo scene in the main film.

It only engaged in a fantasy setting for like a quarter of the film. It was hopping martial arts subgenres before then.

And I'll never understand people who opine about how tired the MCU formula is and then hate on films for not feeling like an MCU film.

The film was far from perfect but at least it's cliches were divergent from MCU cliches. And it was light years more entertaining then actual Wuxia snorefests like House of Flying Daggers, The Curse of the Golden Flower and Hero.

Yeah I said it! A merely quarter portion of an above average MCU flick did Wuxia better then like eight hours of actual Chinese Wuxia filmmaking. Kung Flu fight me!

New Moon Knight trailer.

Honestly looks far more gritty and cerebral then what we typically see on Disney Plus. I hope the series isn't negatively impacted like much of the MCU and Star Wars fare can be on that streaming service in how it's kind of 'flanderized' when it comes to themes and violence etc.
