Ohhh.
Am I wrong though? A lot of hate goes out when a Disney movie with a female protag and that is the automatic thought.
It was a typical Marvel action movie. It is like Bourne series. Has a nice twist as well

Yes, you are wrong. There have been all kinds of strong female characters in the past who not only didn't generate this kind of reaction, but were celebrated. This includes Black Widow, incidentally. But there are some very straightforward and obvious differences with what the woke crowd considers to be a strong female character, and this tends to go hand-in-hand with how they treat men. The "strong female = bad" narrative is a leftist lie to deflect criticism of their writing and characters.

I still don't see how this is that kind of thing. Because it does not seem to have what people are claiming besides evil male and strong female

I can see why for both of those, but this one literally has NOTHING that they were saying, and seems to be another one of those "Strong female = BAD!" Stuff
That may be, and I haven't seen the film myself so I can't really be sure one way or the other; but you can't deny that the people behind the film said what they said, so is it really that out of the question might go into the film expecting it to be thinly veiled regressive leftist propaganda?

That's just a leftist narrative. No one thinks that.
Eh, some people do; but I just attribute that to hyper-sensitivity thanks to the regressive left constantly pushing their ideological narrative to the point where it's easy to see it everywhere.

Captain Marvel was not a terrible movie and we all know the shit the actress said

Captain Marvel was a bad Marvel movie, but just mediocre overall.

Here's an imporant point to remember: "bad movie" is relative. Shyamalan's "Signs" might be a mediocre movie per se, but if you put it next to a random sampling of any given years indie horror flicks, you'll find it looking real good.

Similarly, if you put Captain Marvel in a row with a couple of just average movies, it'll look better. It looks terrible because Marvel movies are in general very, very, good, probably generally in the top 1% best movies, so Captain Marvel has a lot to live up to, and it ends up being pretty mediocre.

The Black Widow movie was kinda doomed from the beginning; the fact that they decided to make it a Generic Marvel Action Flick only really sealed the deal, as Black Widow just isn't the best character for that.

It would've been much better as a more serious spy movie.

Also, really lazy/loose plotting is a pretty clear issue in the movie.

I'd honestly say that Black Widow is probably the weakest MCU movie to date, which is rather sad.

I saw Black Widow last Sunday and I liked it.

It was a good movie, not in the top tier of MCU movies or anything but still very enjoyable. I really enjoyed the first 80% or so of the film and then it kind of suffered from a real muddled, bloated and choppy ending which seems to plague big budget blockbusters perpetually.

Positives were the action was good, the characters were fun and great and the humor really had me (and since I actually watched this in a theater) and a lot of the rest of the audience laughing at the interpersonal banter going on. It also had some nice emotional moments as well. So it ticked off all of those marks when it comes to making a decent MCU movies. Most of the film felt like an upscaled Bourne or similar Spy-Action Thriller though obviously with more elaborate superheroey action and less hard boiled.

I really did like all of the acting. ScarJo was great and Florence Pugh was amazing as Yelena Belova, Black Widow's sister. She looked great too. Amazing to see an action girl in a movie who possesses hips that are functional, not merely decorative. Red Guardian was a comic relief character but it worked fine for me with how they set him up and everything. And Harbour did a good job with that character as well. The character interactions made the slow parts of the movie entertaining and that was nice.

The final act though with the climatic action sequence was very jumbled and heavily cut around and juxtaposed. There was a lot of stuff going on that really made the ending suffered and I feel could've been improved a lot with some better focus and less concentration on the special effects extravaganza that occurred.

The only other major drawback was the criminal underuse of Taskmaster in the film, especially in the action scenes. I love Taskmaster in the comics and while the MCU version is completely different, I actually didn't care that much. What I did care about is that most of Taskmaster's fight scenes and appearances were horribly truncated. I was hoping for some massively elaborate and choreographed fight scene between Tasky and the good guys but that was never delivered.

The arms dealer/contractor character was also borderline cringe. Only character I guess I really didn't care for. Poorly written and miscast or whatever. But... at least he was good for some humor scenes I guess. So not a complete failure.

Like all of the MCU films there's plot holes and contrivances... and I'm not nitpicky so such things don't really bother me. Overall I liked it. Enjoyed it. It was a good movie on its own and while it came far too late, I'm glad I saw it and I'm glad they made it.

They also used a lot of bits from the comics, especially from the Marvel Knights Black Widow miniseries comics written by Richard K. Morgan. What is confusing and mildly frustrating is that I think it would've been a better movie if they cribbed these ideas from the comics more directly instead of needlessly switching up things for the film like they did. Not going to get into spoilers in this post but, the changes weren't needed in those cases.

Still overall, good entertaining movie and a nice superhero-spy action thriller type of film. Had more potential and came too late but still worth a watch.

Scarlett Johansson is apparently filing a lawsuit against Disney over the release of Black Widow on Disney+.

Specifically the lawsuit seems to contend:

Variety said:
In a court filing on Thursday, Johansson said Disney’s decision to send the Marvel movie to Disney Plus at the same time it was released in theaters cost her millions of dollars in backend compensation. Those bonuses were tied to hitting box office benchmarks that “Black Widow” likely won’t achieve. Disney is countering that it complied with the terms of Johansson’s deal to star in the Avengers spinoff film.

and

Variety said:
“It’s no secret that Disney is releasing films like ‘Black Widow’ directly onto Disney Plus to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company’s stock price — and that it’s hiding behind COVID-19 as a pretext to do so,” John Berlinski, an attorney for Johansson, said in a statement to Variety. “But ignoring the contracts of the artists responsible for the success of its films in furtherance of this short-sighted strategy violates their rights and we look forward to proving as much in court. This will surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts.”

As Berlinski suggests, Johansson’s lawsuit could impact the way that movie stars are compensated in the streaming era and may inspire a wave of fresh legal action by actors upset that their films are not exclusively debuting in theaters.

Spats like this make that petty little drama-loving part of me I deny exists so happy because I dislike both parties. Disney is right in that Scarlett is trying to nab one last paycheck on her way out the door, especially now that she makes the predictable evolution from 'attractive young actress fine with sex appeal' to 'post 40 actresses very critical of Hollywood exploitation of women'. On the other foot, Scarlett is probably correct that Disney stomped on her more than once for financial reasons and probably owes her an extra pound or two of flesh.

I hope it devolves into a pointlessly ugly spat.

Fifty million is pocket change for Disney. I hope she gets every penny. And maybe cool things to emerge in discovery. Chances are there will be a settlement of course.

Disney looks like it screwed her over though one final time though with how it handled her character saga. Fifty million should help rectify no Black Widow & Hawkeye movie a decade ago which would've almost automatically made a billion dollars well before any pandemic... :p

And they could have used it to build into the black widow movie! Like, the fun it sounds like they had way back when

I sympathize with Scarlet Johansson, actually, as much as I can sympathize with someone that wealthy getting paid that much.

Disney basically screwed her out of tens of millions at what's probably nearing the end of her career.

It's like nearing the 20 year pension mark, then your employer tries to screw you by claiming you don't actually qualify for your pension.

But she's still hot, no matter what anyone says.
