They could but that would expose what is going on to daylight that those officials don't want on them. Back during the 80s officials in certain Big Cities tried to weasel out in similar ways and it did not go the way they thought it would. Because other officials weren't gonna risk their hide for them.
I hate to say it but...
That is what has been happening.
Look at Washington, Oregon and thier major cities.
Minnesota.
Etc etc.
I'm not an America love it or leave person. That said if you're that scared of the country you need to go somewhere else. I would love to see them go to one of the countries they idolize like Venezuela, or Zimbabwe or whatever socialist 3rd world shithole they prefer.
