Last time your country has had a good government

I had been thinking about it, and the last period where I feel Croatia has had a genuinely good government (from top to bottom) was the rule of Matthias Corvinus, from 1458. to 1490. There were some good people later (Josip Jelačić, Drašković etc.), but government as a whole always had issues which I think prevent it from warranting the label of "good" (they were either incompetent, morally questionable, or both). After 1918., none of the governments were competent. And every single government we have had since 1941. was flat-out evil.

So what about your country's governments?

Good question ...
So ... Kingdom of Poland - 1815-1830, I guess ... ? Although still cunts in some areas.
But since 1991 the Govt's, even if a bit "meh" have been reasonably competent and not quite Evul!. Something I realised only a few years ago when an Ukrainian waxed lyrical about the sterling quality of government in Poland. I guess it take's an outsider's perspective ...

I don't think Brazil ever had a good government. We've had fortunate governments(JK), we've had some that were apparently good but time showed everyone their failures(D.Pedro II), but good? There isn't one I'd classify as that.

LBJ's government would have been pretty good had he not tried as hard to reengineer society and also avoided the Vietnam War. (Some reengineering was, of course, necessary due to Jim Crow but forced busing and the extremely broad scope of civil rights laws might have went a bit too far):

The 60s Civil Rights laws being as broad as they are is because people who opposed them in Congress like Howard W. Smith tried to kill them and misread the room.

Vietnam? You can place the blame for US involvement there on Woodrow Wilson, Harry Truman, and the French.

Why Woodrow Wilson?

In the case of my homeland, we had a good government when Ramon Magsaysay was President, until his plane crash in 1957.

In the case of where I live now, very hard to say, post-WWII. I could say John A. MacDonald was a good Prime Minister, and he was a main figure in the Metis Rebellions, though he'd be a villain in the eyes of the Metis population themselves.

In the united states?

Thats a complicated question, because everyone has a different defintion of good, and because of state, local, and federal government just because the country as a whole is mostly good it doesn't mean your city government isn't shit, or your state isn't shit.

Id say that the country in general was headingly slowly towards a good direction before woodrow wilson fucked up our country and some Serbian asshole decided he could change the world.

Ever since then the west in general has been dealing with the fallout from the later and america with the former.

Regardless of everyone else's definitions, I think it's safe to say that many of the last few Presidents you guys had were pretty shit.

I mean, Clinton couldn't keep it in his pants; Bush was, well, Bush; Obama was a fucking disgrace albeit a charismatic one; Trump had his flaws but he actually did a lot of good for your country, even if he had proverbial knives at his throat from all directions -- Hell, I'd argue he was a good President, his ego aside; and then there's Biden who is literally senile and a puppet (and if he isn't a puppet, having him in charge of the country is even more fucking frightening a scenario!).
