Kiwi Farms under attack again

Mother Jones published a hit piece on the farms. It is factually wrong in impressive ways and complete garbage, you can tell the journo is seething.

Highlights: Lies about SWATing, claims it is "like 4chan and 8chan", gets basic facts about Null wrong, attacks Null's mom when she hasn't even been part of his life for 6 years, and more.

Striking while the iron is ice cold, I see.

I like how they admit the farms will make fun of literally everyone, but then doubled
back and insist that no, they're actually a reactionary far right forum because....uh....they say no-no words.

One thread went on for more than a dozen pages.

Oh no. A dozen pages.

. “One of the big things that hit me running for office is that when you Google my name, Kiwi Farms is one of the first things that shows up,” said Brianna Wu, a video game developer and former congressional candidate who was also a major target of Gamergate. “It’s hard when you have these people who create your reputation in a way that permanently damages it,” she added.

Yeah, I don't think the farms is responsible for destroying Wu's reputation. That was self inflicted, the farms just maintains a record of it for the world to see (which might explain why Wu wants them gone, if MJ had bothered to ask). The idea that an employeer would shy away from hiring you because your name is mentioned on a internet harassment forum is highly dubious. The idea that they'd shy away because of your overall behavior and you're using the forum as a scapegoat....that's a bit more likely.

Edit: I think the most irritating part of these articles is them constantly taking this people's word at face value, and just assuming that not only did everything they say happened, it happened because of the farms. Nearly everyone quoted in that article has a years long record of being an abrasive jerk online, they have no shortage of enemies, anyone of whom could have dome that stuff (assuming, again, that it actually happened).

The article also doesn't mention that the farms explicitly ban any sort of trolling plans or organized efforts to screw with people, nor make any effort to see if that's actually something they follow, which I would guess it is. Patrick Tomlinson and MovieBob both have threads on the farms, in the same subforum and of a similar level of activity, and both men fit the same general mold (stupid fat white guys who spend way to much time on twiter ranting about politics). The only difference is that Tomlinson is in the crosshairs of another site that doesn't have the farms rule about no trolling. He is subject to constant prank calls and has had the police called to his home several times, while Bob is largely left alone.

Some lolcowery from Keffels awhile back. I heard people gibbering it was trying to turn its Subreddit into Kiwifarms 2.0 but didn't realize how literal it was.

Also I heard Kiwifarms is doing a lot better now. Is that true?

That's the thing. By not engaging in good-faith arguments they are able to choose the literary terms of engagement. Redefining language to via publications in academia and slang (same thing basically) till you are speaking different dialects and your words are being used against you.
Which *clears throat* is why you don't call for "gatekeeping".

If you don't gatekeep to an extent, however, you end up being infiltrated and taken from the inside out like a virus or, well, The Thing.

This has happened to so many hobbyist communities and sites.

Trading card games? Dice, pen, and paper role-playing games? Certain video game communities? Comics? Cartoons? Perfect examples, especially in the last decade or so.

Communists are asshole control freaks and have to absolutely control everything and every one around them. Its almost pathological.

From what I've gathered, in most clubs and on most websites, you can let leftists into the larger group, but you must scrupulously keep them away from any kind of power or authority the inner circles have.
It's often said that those on the right think those on the left are naive, while those on the left think those on the right are evil.

You can have a reasonable debate with someone who thinks you don't understand the topic. You can't have a reasonable debate with someone who thinks you're just evil.

It comes from the foundation of how they see the world.

Conservatives see human nature as one that is inherently flawed and self interested and society is how we try to correct for said flaws so we can function.

The left thinks of humanity as naturally good but society corrupts them.

Intitially one would think that the left would be nicer....well no, because when you think that everyone is inherently kind of shit its actually easier to let stuff go because after all were all fuck ups, its easier to deal with flaws because every ones flawed.

Meanwhile you see the left go into purity spirals that can go really horrific.

If it were a justified act, it would be named in plain English instead of such a blanket term. The Leftists knew that they had shit the bed by saying that their old favorites were "cancelled" and tried to take it back by insisting that they actually meant that the targets were "facing consequences for their actions." In a correct act of projection (because directionbrains really are the same), they announced that their enemies were also cancelling people for being women or extroverted. And somehow, even when vaunting their pattern recognition, the opposite end of that Bird decided, "yeah, I am going to agree with the behavior that they projected onto me".
If I hear someone say that "I was gatekept", I assume that it was probably justified because they would be able to explain the incident in clearer detail if it wouldn't be incriminating. But - if the perpetrator said "I'm gatekeeping" instead of something like "that person gave unsolicited opinions about atheism". Then, like the opposite person, they are probably using vague language as a refuge.
And your only defense is that someone else might gatekeep is "we" are not first to gatekeep. Gatekeeping is good, because gatekeeping is bad. We must gatekeep to stop gatekeeping. For anyone that isn't in the mind to treat consumer brands like national-states, it just looks like the Great and Abominable Bird of politics has taken a second shit in their lemonade jar.

Update on the Farms, Journalists still seething: The Register authors news article suggesting that people (specifically, KiwiFarmers) be put into 'deprogramming camps' where they can be 'detoxified of hate' - and they consider this a more likely, viable, and effective alternative to deplatforming then. No really. They mask it with "de-toxification" and weasel words about "resocialization" that would have made the USSR proud.

Dear boffins:

The more you tighten your grasp, more we will slip through your fingers.

Until you acknowledge and address the filth and dehumanisation coming from the other side, you wont be able to stop the radicalisation you seek to prevent. You should learn from your own literature of rebellion, that as long as the conditions continue to exist, rebellion will continue indefinitely.

Indeed your unwillingness to critically examine the behavior of your own side means you are mentally and ideologically incapable of actually dealing with this in a positive way. You are, as other powers have noted "agreement incapable" and only know how threaten, oppress and double down on anyone who disagrees with your views, leading to further radicalisation and even more repression.
