The Judge found in favor of the Pageant under First Amendment rules allowing them the freedom of expression in regards to their pageant celebrating the participation of only natural born women.

As far as I'm concerned a private business can largely do as it pleases, but the Miss USA pageant needs to dispense with the absurd pretense that it's a "talent" show.

True enough. It is pretty much about who is the hottest.

Though, if I remember correctly, Kelly Hu did win Miss Hawaii as a teenager.

Eh. When you get down to it, it's pretty much the same thing. But, my original point still stands. It's mostly about hotness, but there are some people with talent who participated in those competitions.

Sure, but that's essentially coincidental. There are people who happen to be *both* attractive and talented, but talent isn't actually a factor in winning any of these pageants. It's just an absurd pretense that they're anything but beauty contests.

'Talent' being defined as an innate quality, rather than purely a learned skill, it is not unfair to consider beauty a 'talent.' Skill can of course be built on top of a talent, and physical beauty is as much about how one attires and carries themselves these days.

I still think beauty paegents these days are unhealthy, though. I just disagree with the idea that 'talent' is an improper word to relate to a them.

Regarding the actual ruling, it's nice to have some sanity. And also nice for pretty much all contestants, because there'd be a lot of humiliation to go around if someone trans was pushed into participating.

As some one with two sisters...

women put a lot of work and effort into make up into getting just the right outfit, and striking the right look, and its not done to impress men its done to outdo other women. You would be suprised how much hard work and effort goes into being beautiful or at least presentable.

Yup! There's a reason why fashion/beauty bloggers and influencers are so popular, especially with teens/women 15+, after all.

It's some of both. Women who fall into that kind of mentality are trying to outcompete each other, but part of it is that they're trying to outcompete each other for the attention of men.

As a girl, I am well aware that it does take a lot of work and effort to go from "basically pretty" to "model gorgeous". However, that's not the actual skill/work that the Miss [X] competitions supposedly promote in order to justify calling themselves talent shows as opposed to beauty pageants.
