I' not learned in the specifics enough to have a firm policy already in mind but I can tell you the wait times mean we aren't budgeting for the demand and that is likely costing us opportunities

So, something more in line with what Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have? You could even combine family reunification and diversity into this system by giving extra immigration points to people with family ties and to people who come from underrepresented countries. You can figure out just how many immigration points.
@Proxy 404 FWIW, I sympathize with the Left on the immigration issue here in the US. Less so in Europe where a lot of working-class Muslims and Africans are being imported. Here, we get cognitive elites and working-class Latin Americans, so a better bargain overall. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to have even more cognitively elitist immigration just so long as Wokeness will become more under control here. I personally don't like Trumpism and don't like Wokeness. I prefer liberal race realism and voluntary eugenics instead:

That article has the distinct whiff of Eugenics about it. Which I don't trust for a second.
Frankly, I'm increasingly coming around on the idea that immigration is something that solely benefits wealthy elites.
For the poor it massively devalues labor and pressures housing and any social nets and for the middle class it forces skilled trades and educated jobs into a bidding war with the rest of the world.

At the cost of social cohesion and economic damage up and down the line. The days of mass cheap labor being a viable system are long gone.
It's increasingly becoming a weapon of insecure political parties and individuals with enough capital to benefit from the agrate crushed wages.

I mean I've seen some of your post from the past. If someone like you is coming around to that idea what does that say of those with more...hardlined views from the start?
That's most likely going to happen in 10-20 years.
but the idea of what's going to be your own kind is likely going to be vastly expanded. I think its more likely to be based on religion/ civilization then race as we know it.

At some point high tech countries need to decide their limit. They need to understand that they cannot support more low skill labor imports. There are billions of people looking to enter the system and only so much ability for the recipient countries to absorb them. A great many of the current social and economic problems have been at least exasperated by this almost endless influx.
Most countries are well past the point of disadvantaging citizens to the benefit of people with no skin in the game and are to the point of active acts of self destruction. While civilization is never a zero sum game, there is definitely such a thing as opportunity cost.
I fear the social and economic damage is going to have some ugly consequences.
As an aside, I am always amused when people point at low western birthrates as an excuse for mass immigration. Totally missing that mass immigration causes the exact pressures that cause birthrates to go down. I expect if you take a more granular look at birthrates this would be easier to see, but it's hard to find good studies that aren't victim blaming political trash.

So yes and no. Yes they do have a point, that those countries have experienced a massive mostly unsupported population explosions without the necessary infrastructure or societal improvements to support it. All the while donations of free industrially produced goods and foodstuffs destroy whatever local industry they have. Free clothing to Africa for example has long wiped out most all local attempts.
No, I don't trust blatant anti-human depopulationists with any amount of power. At best they tend to roleplay the all knowing enlightening one condescending to the noble savage, at worst they are Gaia worshipping maniacs planning on blatant megadeaths to reach some mystic 'utopia' that make Tom Clancy villains look balanced and stable.

Nah that's them trying to feed you the pill. They overhype the problem to make it seem more complex and unsolvable then it is so that they can nobly take on the burden of power. The fix is simple, on the macro scale, stop all immigration. There will be disruption on both sides, but when you're speeding off a cliff it helps to just take your foot off the gas.
