Culture I'm at the point where I can't stand underdogs

Ok ultimatly I think this is going to be a different thesis than what is presented in the title. The reason why most people like underdogs at least in theory is that we want them to essentially earn their success, we want them to get dragged through the mud so that the happy ending can be more satisfying, essentially we want them to burn in Hell for a while so that entering Heaven can be that much sweeter.

The problem is that There is no ending, at no point can we ever see a character retire. They have to keep making new stories, if no new stories can be made, then we'll recycle the old stories sometimes line for line, which means that most characters have to go through this cycle of self-hating angst over and over and over again. How many times can Peter Parker whine about how X situation is his fault to the point we grit our teeth when we hear the line "With great power comes great responsibility?" Edit: how many times do we have to go over the death of Gwen Stacy or see Peter chase an illusive red head the writer have made clear he's NEVER going to be with.

It's gotten to the point when batman starts brooding about his life, I don't care about his personal struggles or whether being batman is tearing him apart. If anything I want him to either get over it, or put himself out of his misery so we can finally put the same old tired story to bed. If bruce wayne is dead, then at least have the dencency to bury him next to his parents so that at least Alfred can move on with his life. Yes I am aware that being human means we make the same mistakes over and over again alot of times, that doesin't mean it's a good thing or it's somthing I want to aspire to. Reality is boring and gritty and tiring, in other news water is wet, I don't want to see that in my fiction. It's one thing to make charecters earn a happy ending....but at some point there has to at least be an ending.

Your actual issue is with the anterograde amnesia that overextending franchising brings about.

I don't mind universes continuing onward. Life goes on after all, but after a while a charecter should die or at least hang the cape up and walk into the sunset, city, suburbia, retirment home ect, while someone new takes the reigns, heck that was supposed to be what legacy characters were for.

They were supposed to be, but they were written horribly and fans complained.

then do we really have the right to complain about the state of storytelling?

Fan: I want to hear this story again

Author: but you have this story at home.

Edit: scratch that I missed the part where you said they were written horribly. The miles Moralis we got from into the Spiderverse was the one we should have gotten from the word go. He's a likable charecter that I want to go on adventures with, and i'm not ashamed to admit i'm a milesXspidergwen shipper.

Miles managed to take off, as did Spider gwen so they managed to be what people wanted, Riri took off when Bendis left, at least written well. These things have helped the legecy, the issue is people still wanted their old heros

Your suffering this thing called, I have seen this all before. Its the same with people who have stopped giving a shit about isekai. Its all the same or you have seen it all before and thus its tiresome and you hate it now and want it to be over so you can get something new.

Well, if you're talking about "reboots" of comic-book characters, an idea would be to drop the idea that all the episodes are part of one continuity.

That's basically my take on comics. I regard the individual stories as essentially self-contained legends akin to, say, stories of Hercules. He did the twelve labors and that's a story, and he killed the Nemean Lion and that's a story, etc. The order they happened in doesn't matter much (technically the Lion would be first since it gave Herc his classic look and outfit) and they're all separate events that don't really impact each other much.
