United States ICE raids in LA lead to Protestors and riots in the streets.

I've been doing a lot of reading surrounding the fall of the Roman Republic and it's funny to me all the parallels between the popularis political faction, and it's vast numbers of foreign migrants backed by a slice of the Roman political elite, and our own situation in the US.

Read Oscar Spenglers decline of the west.

Lots of other people see this.

Rome fell because of environmental factors like plagues, more than anything else.

Shit, Justinian's Plague kept Byzantium from retaking Rome, and that was caused by Krakatoa's ancestor going off and cooling global temps, causing the bacteria in the guts of fleas to go insane.

Most civilizational downfalls in the historical record, not just Rome, can be tied to a massive climate disruption, often the result of massive volcanic eruptions in the tropics, Med, or Iceland.

Of course historians tend not to take climatic conditions into account as primary factors, instead treating them as side-notes.

Which is why I think Yellowstone is America's true weakness, not any of the politics; the Founders didn't know the continent they had laid claim to for their new nation had a massive, globally fucking timebomb sitting in it.

More and more I put stock into the saying "History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme".

The parallels between the current situation in the USA and the situation of the ancient Roman Republic is uncanny.

Vast numbers of foreigners overwhelming the political system and public services? Check

A slice of the political elite backing the demands of said migrant foreigners, obstensibly for things like liberty/justice, but more often to gather personal political power. Check

Said migrants being bribed with what is essential free stuff by both the aforementioned elite, and their opponents in order to keep violence to a minimum. Check

A near total corruption of the justice system and courts used to wage lawfare on political enemies? Check

It doesn't line up 100% perfectly. The main opponents of the Popularis were the Traditionalist nobility and oligarchy merchant's, but damn if the situation isn't close to the same.

I'm not talking about the fall of Western Rome. I'm talking about the collapse of the Roman Republic and it's rough transition into Empire

8PM curfew in parts of downtown LA. The helicopters have dropped from constant to sometimes. I'm not in LA, but to the south in Long Beach and Paramount and Compton are not far away. Here we had protests/marches today that were herded about and told to move off the City Hall. I expect low-level shit like this to continue here to the weekend, curious to see if /how the No More Kings dumbassery plays out here as it will probably directly impact plans I have on Saturday.
