Why not just go and say it's a parody show and use a different name than Star Trek? Oh wait, same reason why there has to be a female Doctor Who and a black female Doctor Who

Because "legacies" are easier for getting viewers, theoretically
They think the fans will watch anything with the name of the series on it, be it good ornot

to be fair it's not wrong. create an OG work and nobody will give it the time of day, but decide to name the main character Bella or Elsa and slap a twilight or a frozen label on it, sudenly it's "Oh MY GOSH THIS IS SUCH A GOOD STORY!!!!" fnaf too to a lesser extent.

Yeah, ever read Avengers The Initiative or Avengers Academy?

They were among the first comics I read and you know what? I look on the wiki and comic vine and guess what?

BARELY ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS I CAME TO LIKE EVER APPEAR AGAIN

Which was such a shame, given how well I recall they were written

Then again, they weren't "legacies" like Kamala Khan or Miles Morales and were going by their own names and costumes and such

No "passing the torch" there except for having been taught and trained under other heroes like My Hero Academia, Deku doesn't even decide to go by All-Might or All-Might Jr or share color schemes and costumes or sigils, how can he be a legacy like them!!!

Most of the ones in initiative are reassuring every now and then. For academy, they sorta had something happen that caused people to die, and all show up every now and then

I wished to know what happened to Armoury, I mean for a character who only appeared in a few issues, I liked her

Wish Gyrich got the shit beaten out of him for that

She is a normal human now, and Is under watch, no idea where she is now.

I know, I was hoping to see her part of a continued plotline, I mean aside from that crazy MVP Clone(KIA), she was the only one her alien machine-arm worked on

Would have liked that one not aborted

Unfortunately, I guess she’s forgotten, shame

There is not enough writers and artists for every character to have a running plotline

Yeah, though I guess the fact they weren’t legacies sorta helped in the being forgotten or the series not getting a sequel or continuation

Anyway, maybe best stop, still feeling kinda disappointed there

Star trek is supposed to be

1) Optimistic
2) Progressive in the liberal sense
3) Mature
4) Sincere and NONIRONIC

This shit is none of those
So... you're just going to ignore all the absurd bullshit the actual series did (just as an example, 99.9999% of Ferengi episodes), and shit on a work that leans into the absurd bullshit because it is not SERIOUS BUSINESS?

Hell, at worst, the level of plotting we're going to get is going to be on par with that Voyager episode where Janeway was shooting giant viruses, which is an absolutely fucking stupid idea that is canon.

TvTropes I recall tried saying how different Rick & Morty is from the usual “Adult Animation”

  • Rick and Morty is often seen as an example of this trope "done right". A lot of the humor is extremely sophomoric, with phallic imagery, burp/fart jokes, pop culture references and violence galore; however, much like Bojack Horseman, it plays the consequences of a lot of these jokes completely straight for the sake of furthering the story and developing the characters, who even at their flattest are much more fleshed out and three-dimensional than a good deal of the show's contemporaries. The most notable of this is the writers' conscious decision to make the occasional verbal rape joke while playing every instance of the act itself completely for horror, illustrating the difference between making jokesabout rape and thinking rape is funny.
TBF, there’s a bit of a point there, given that Jellybean King’s actually portrayed for horror
I will give the show credit for being more mature about it than Family Guy, but I just don't care. Rick is still a terrible person, and I am not interested in following his adventures any further.

If you're still having doubts about Lower Decks, check out these excerpts from the book the showrunner did before this:
That was horrible, and I hate you now for subjecting me to it; and this dreck was supposed to ease my concerns about the upcoming series? Maybe you'll end up enjoying it; but if that book is any indication, I certainly won't.

Maybe it's just me, but characters being dumbasses is less of a problem than the script being written by dumbasses. Nothing is more infuriating than when the story has the protagonists bumble their way through, not due to their own flaws and lack of knowledge, but because the writers were either too stupid to think of obvious solutions or created a situation that only exists because of the writers' own stupidity.

STD and Picard tried to follow that formula as perfectly as they could. I don't recall it working out that well, maybe leaving that box is the best movie, at least until we have some showrunners that understand that "mature" is not the same as "using all the swear words because you're not on cable and you can get away with it".

Never saw STD, but Picard deliberately set out to deconstruct Picard and the federation. The central theme of Picard is that he, the avatar for white males was an overrated and privileged has been whose only redemption comes in dying for the POC..errr, Synths. Picard was endlessly humiliated and berated, especially by the female characters.

A Picard in the original spirit would have Picard being in quiet retirement, but immensely respected. He comes out of retirement for one last grand adventure, and then gracefully hands the reigns over to a new generation of explorers.

To be fair the Rot in the Federation was actually shown in DS9 during the Dominion War Arc. Starfleet did a lot of shady shit to win the Dominion War. Things Picard would have raised holy hell about had he been in the loop. Rot on that level and that deep does not go away it gets worst. You would logically end up with a very shitty Admiral at the head of Starfleet by the time of Picard. In many ways it is the predicted result of everything that took place over the past 35 years in universe. Picard was literally the odd man out in that new world.

It occurred to me the other day that you can track the consensus of America's elite class by the themes of the Star Trek of the time:

Star Trek: I don't see color. Also it's imperative for Space America to defeat the Space Commies in order to protect space freedom. Also, hippies are dumb even when they have a point.

Star Trek TNG: A kinder, gentler leadership is needed to build consensus in the New Galactic Order. The most urgent issue is a masturbatory philosophical debate with a godlike but useless being.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: We should sympathize with the plight of the Space Palestinians, but not too much. Also, the shapeshifting infiltrator is a good guy.

Star Trek Voyager: Let's put a woman in charge. What's the worst that can happen?

Star Trek Discovery: Let's put an angry black woman in charge. What's the worst that can happen?

Star Trek Lower Decks: Can I put it in my ass? Let's find out!
That’s like really unfair? And doesn’t take into account the views Roddenberry had late in life or the views of the writers? Especially in the Berman era?

Maybe, I dunno, not much of a Star Trek guy. The original 60s series is fun and campy, but I just don't have any strong opinions about it.
