Writers Blocked Douchebag

Family Guy: I'm the worst thing to happen to adult western animation

Rick and morty: Hold my szechuan sauce.

I warned you....I warned you all. I WARNED YOU ALL!!!!

😂🔫

Honestly, Rick & Morty isn't really all that different from all those Adult Western Animation shows that are more-or-less centred around some douchebag family when you think about it

It's just more near-random and near-unpredictable than them

Honestly, I'll reserve judgement but I can see the thinking of the execs. The TV shows don't seem to be as popular and are generating a lot of controversy, so shaking up the formula and combining it with adult cartoons might produce a winner.

I'm not sure it will but I can at least respect that they're trying. I wish it was more ensemble though, we supposedly have four main characters but it was 90% two of them, green girl and cyborg eye had barely an presence and I think the continuous focus on a "main" character instead of the ensembles Trek has always relied on are hurting current shows.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to this one, since the showrunner did a whole book about a fictional season of TNG in this style, and Trek in general needs to acknowledge how absurd its bullshit is.

I might even ask SFDebris to review the pilot.

So Star Trek is ripping off Rick and Morty now?

Oh how the mighty have fallen.
In fairness, and though I could be wrong, it kind of looks like Star Trek is ripping off Space Quest...In the style of Rick and Morty.
So...like...ripoff-ception.
(this joke brought to you by the 'Oh no, I'm getting old' realization and judgement from a Star Wars fan...Or, at least, the hollow husk of one).

I've not seen a lot of Star Trek, but I thought the more 'mundane' jobs had occasional chances to shine? I suppose it might of just been saying odd episode about engineering or medical problems, but it doesn't seem like an overly-large change to the basic premise when, by requirement, the somewhat usual setup of the 'spacegoing band solving mysteries with kajiggers' theme will be hit still. Having it actually be space-ship janitors might actually have been an interesting twist? Probably not marketable, though. A pseudo-documentary or 'dirty jobs' type thing in space might not excite the ratings card.

Also...Isn't this kind of overlapping with 'The Orville' as the 'fun', 'adult-humor-y' Star Trek property (I have never watched it, so I assume this is what it is)? Are they really doubling-down on that in two different mediums? Seems a bit odd--unless this is meant to be more 'serious' than it might seem?

Should have been an actual children's cartoon. Make it absolutely as simple and plain as possible and try not to fuck up something so basic.

never before has this comic ever felt so appropriate as it does now.

They've got one of those in development too.

But if you're worried about this show, buy the book (or check it out from the public library) by the showrunner:
Warped: An Engaging Guide to the Never-Aired 8th Season (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

The content of this book is probably going to be the baseline for the show, with the main difference being the parallel development of both the lower decks and upper decks cast.

All I need to know is... are the Kzinti going to feature in this one too?
Don't know, honestly. I'm pretty sure they were already in post-production when Michael Chabon somehow talked the Niven estate into that one-liner in Picard, so I kinda doubt it for this season, but maybe they'll do one next season or further in the future.

It must be a great time to be alive for star trek fans who hate star trek.

Nah, this show could only exist if you love Star Trek, like Galaxy Quest and The Orville.

Like, the thing about CBS Trek is that it leans toward having its head up its own ass about being serious business, and not letting itself acknowledge how goofy the situations and stories are. But then, that's kind of to be expected, because everyone has focused on how serious and meaningful the franchise has been, while ignoring the humor and goofiness, like they were super embarrassed.

And honestly, I'm fine with CBS making their super srs bsns Trek as long as they make stuff like this that goes into the absurdities of Trek. It's like Gundam - having their super goofy toy battling spinoff made them going super dark with Iron-Blooded Orphans totally fine, because it gave the audience something to use as a breather or alternative if they didn't like one or the other.

And of course comments are disabled and the like/dislike buttons are non-functional.

:ROFLMAO:
I managed to make a few posts and saw the like/dislike ratio before it vanished. It was about 4k5 dislikes to about 2k3 likes I think? Pretty much most of the comments I saw were shit talking it and I have to agree. STD and Picard would honestly feel far more at home in the Mirror Universe and if they'd actually been set in the Mirror Universe, I'd dislike them a lot less. Hell, it would be a great point of divergence as I recall Spock telling Kirk in TOS that Starfleet have never court marshalled anyone in it's history and then you have Burnham. It would have been a good example of a single person's actions causing a complete shift in a timeline. Picard is just garbage and CBS even admitted that it was partly written in the way it was to take down Picard which I couldn't even imagine why that would have occurred to anyone at all but it was produced by Alex Kurtzman who loathes Stark Trek.

Lower Decks looks like they're trying to over-correct at warp speed and steal a bit from The Orville in terms of humour. I'm honestly not at all looking forward to it and I'm not even sure if I'll bother watching more than one or two episodes but considering the latest Star Trek TV series and movies, I have absolutely no hope that it'll be a good Star Trek series.
