So the title is as advertised. Speaking of advertisements, I've seen literal ad banners and social media promos for Amazons new TV series but never bothered clicking on any of them or giving them more of a cursory glance so I had no idea what this new series was that Amazon was pushing... but apparently... Al Pacino portrays a wealthy Manhattanite and Holocaust survivor who leads a diverse band of Nazi Hunters in brutally delivering delayed justice upon scads of Nazi war criminals who apparently ended up in the United States thirty plus years after the end of the Second World War. These nefarious Nazis are apparently planning on establishing a Fourth Reich here in the United States.

Now before you audibly groan (as I am still doing) it's apparently meant to be more of a pulp and superhero comic inspired type of television series and thus not meant to be that reflective of our reality (or is it?). Needless to say, it's apparently inspired by such things to give the show a dramatic license as apparently the plot is meant to be a bit incredulous.

Still, I'm fairly skeptical on this since a lot of media (especially recently) has been meant to be hamfisted metaphor for current affairs and events. Conversely however, liberal internet news outlets like Vox and The Verge seem to find this television series average at best, so it could have that going for it.

Reviews, both critical and audience related... are slightly above the 'freshness' threshold.

Hunters ten episode first season has apparently been released on Amazon Prime. Jordan Peele is an executive producer, which could mean a lot... or absolutely nothing at all but his name has been dropped extensively in marketing for this television show at least. I haven't checked it out myself but was wondering if anyone else has tried watching it, or has any interest in this show.

Certainly doesn't seem to be on the level of a Man in the High Castle.

Well, it's by Jordan Peele, so that sounds about right. He's always had a very....blomkampian level of subtlety when it comes to whatever tone a given work has. That said, it's usually entertaining despite said lack of subtlety, so I wouldn't mark it down just based on that.

Remind me, why did we stop making shows about fighting the Communists again? I love seeing Nazis getting their asses kicked as much as anyone else, but we really need a bit more variation in material.

Because large segments of our entertainment media was taken over by the communists a long time ago, and they're not going to paint their ideology in a bad light if they can help it.

So I just watched the frist epsoide. Overall it is o.k. and I will probably watch the season.

It does hit you in face with its themes. Just like Get Out, his comedy skits Jorden Peele would not know subtlety if it hit him in the face. At least with Hunters unlike his horror movies or comedy it works.

The dialogue does get stilted at times and can be a bit reference heavy.

Overall it does hit the pulp tone well. It has the craziness and violence that is just enough over the top to be fun instead of dumb.

The acting is good while other technical aspect like soundtracks to videography are a decent level.

The actors are decent and Amazon is not relying on Al Pacino to carry the show.

I remember looking at some people commentating on old Marvel comics which had Captain America fighting communist infiltrators. The level of aghast-ness they demonstrated was almost comical ...
They would have that reaction. Personally, I’d love to read those comics, but it doesn’t seem like Marvel is reprinting those. Or at least not by what I could find.
