ASOIAF/GOT House of the Dragon

The show is much more historically accurate on the plate armor than the original GOT. Still not great but much better. The Pauldrons are bad for some of them though. They are so comically big the actors can't raise their arms past 100 degrees.

I like it more than the infuriating LoTR in name only bullcrap that 1 billion dollars of Amazon money turned Rings of Power into. Entire plotlines invented whole cloth and they have the nerve to say it's a lesser known work. It's more accurate to say neither Tolkien ever wrote these abominable stories

I watched the first two episodes. The show is okay. The King and Damon have good actors. Everyone else is like watching paint dry.

Biggest complaint is that the show isn't very aesthetically pleasing to watch, which is bad for a visual medium. For the night scene in the first episode where Damon raids the criminals, and other dimly lit interior scenes, it is just way, way too dark and nearly impossible to make out what is happening. And the show is very colorless, very desaturated. It looks very grey.

EDIT: Actually, I take that back. The show isn't okay. It's very slow. We are two hours into the show and nothing has happened yet. Given that the show is an original story and doesn't have to stick to the script of a book, you'd think that they would have gotten to the big battles already, but nope.

The show isn't a original story, its from a prequel story like the lord of the rings tv show.

The Amazon show is not LOTR nor from the Simarillon as claimed, they dont have the rights to it. They bought the right to use the name Lord of the Rings but none of the written materials from either Tolkien. It's an Abomination masquerading as a Tolkien work. They mashed events eras apart, thousands of years, and lying quite blatantly as well to push forward their agenda. Their main character is an unrelatable Karen and Mary Sue. While the show has beautiful cinematics. In no way do they compensate for an utterly soulless, generic straight to DVD fantasy knockoff. The story written reads as though it were written by fanfic writers who only skimmed the source material. They butchered the setting in the same manner as Wheel of Time.

Having read and loved both works I am infuriated at Amazon's hack writing and inept, heavy handed defense of their garbage studio. Especially as they've taken to deleting all negative reviews in all sites they've bought or invested in. That includes unbiased, neutral and constructive criticism they've received. Leaving only the biased schills who gave them 7 or higher visible. There are sore loosers then there is Amazon.

I especially find it suspicious they waited until Tolkien died to make massive changes to the script and going full steam on production. Tolkien must be rolling in his grave.

This show is amazingly...aggressively...okay.

Also...I thought Aegon the obese died from the diabeetus...not Visery the cuck?

My wife wants to watch it and I agree it's OK. You have to grant that there is a lot of dumb to make all of this work but it's a spectacle sometimes. Also THE MESSAGE of the patriarchy is annoying but at least it's not always on display. Matt Smith and Paddy Considine actually do a really good job in their portrayals and make this a tolerable to watch show. Just don't expect a lot of smart decisions or moves from powerful players (at least so far).

Episode 4

I don't know. Another episode with no action. Just people standing around talking, and it's starting to become hard to care now that almost every character is debaucherous or a liar. There's no one to root for.

It's very good dialog and the visuals are wild, but this is starting to remind me of the Borgias which ultimately got crushed by this formula despite being a superior show to GOT in my opinion.

they need to move this along before "It's better than all the other garbage on TV" stops being a good enough excuse.

That's the core appeal of the franchise though; which is why I was never a fan of either the original series, or the books.

Not keen on the messaging of the show. "Motherhood is the worst possible thing that could happen to you! You must avoid it at all costs, and then you shall be free!"

It's a very weird message to build around a woman who cared so much about her kids she started a war for them, went insane over their deaths and suffered one of the worst deaths possible all for their sake.

Another episode where it was too dark to see anything during certain scenes.

Harwin looked good with the yellow cape on. The only character design that stood out in the show (or maybe it's because the cape was bright enough to stand against the sheer desaturation of the show). Too bad he lost the cape and turned out to be yet another debaucherous character.

I don't understand why Damon's wife killed herself. She still could have had more children. Did she kill herself trying to motivate Damon to go back and become a Dragonlord?

The king is clocking out soon so it seems like the only likeable characters in the show will be the sons: Aemond, Jacaerys, and Lucerys. We'll be lucky if even one of them remain likeable later on.

It seems that the cast is stacked against Alicent. Rhaenyra has the merchant fleet house on his side. Damon is also married into the merchant fleet house and liked Rhaenyra, so there is a good chance he'll join her. Alicent just has... what? Otto her father, and... um... yeah that seems to be it.

I've been watching this show and it's actually quite good in my opinion. The quality matches earlier seasons of GOT. And the cast selection is awesome and everyone of the cast pulls their weight and then some.

And it's been interesting to see the House Targaryen in their prime and my opinion on them has changed from what impressions I had from watching GOT.

And Rhaenyra is my fav. + She's so hot and cute.

@Val the Moofia Boss it's a telenovella, of course it's slow. They're going for the internal drama of the Targaryens. Going full blown, bombastic, overly dramatic Spanish Soap Opera would improve the show. It'd be more hilarious

"Rhaenyra por los dioses! Cuantas veses tengo que decirte si te vas a tomar el pito de la bestia esa de la Casa Strong tienes que tomar te de la luna!"

"PERO PAPA! LEANOR NO ME AMAN!"

'Nena..."

"ME DUELE DEL CORAZON PAPA! NO AGUANTO MAS ESTA FALTA DE RESPETO! Es que soy fea? Porque nunca me toca si no es por tomarme pa'atras?!"

"..Nena..Leanor es un gay"

I kind of want to see the Melodramatic Spanish Mediaeval Plotting Scheming Civil War Incest Murder Bonanza, now.

This actual show is... decent, but that's about it. It's profited greatly from the fact that the obvious point of comparison is the plague-ridden dumpster fire trainwreck disaster in which Jeff Bezos does his utmost to violently rape the legacy of JRR Tolkien. GoT prequel automatically looks good, next to that. But it's really just okay. (It's also much better than GoT's last seasons, so that helps, too. But again: "good by comparison" isn't the same as "actually very good".)

So, yeah-- I'd like a totally over-the-top alternative where they all yell at each other in Spanish.

.

This, people, are so starved for quality that this show looks like it's top tier in terms of writing and execution when it's really just alright.

If anything the success of House of the Dragon is an indictment against the industry more than an endorsement of the show itself.
