United States HOAs should be banned

Banning them is an over-reaction, but their ability to pull shit like this should be removed. That's more of a general legal reform than anything to do with HOAs in specific, though. My preliminary thoughts on the matter:

1. Membership of any association should be voluntary, and upon purchasing a house whose owner is a member of a HOA, the new owner should have to option to also take over that membership. It should not be mandatory, and a HOA should never be able to force membership to be perpetuated. If membership isn't actively transferred, it must be automatically voided. This should be the case for all "associated entanglements" in the case of any transfer of property.

2. Membership of all such associations and organisations must (regardless of changes in ownership of the property) always allow for termination per a one-year term (if not a quarterly term!), and if the next payment is not made, the only consequence should be termination of membership per the period for which the ex-member hasn't paid.

3. Taking someone's property should never be possible without it being so ordered via due process, i.e. a court of law, for which the person in question must be actively served notice by a qualified legal representative of the court. (And I must assuredly include the government in this; 'eminent domain' should be abolished.)

I believe that these steps would solve the issue at hand, and many similar issues, without having to rely on a blanket ban of HOAs, which can also do good work for their members.

HOAs are literally baby's first fascism. No joke.

The type of "person" who tends to take power in these orgs are some of the most authoritarian, petty tyrant, SA wannabe trash I swear to God. It's honestly on the same level as Internet Forum Moderadors of petty power going to their head. (Luv u mods no h8 😘)
