Important Going Forward

So, I must confess that my dissatisfaction with the Sietch is growing the longer the politics section remains closed. I understand that there are issues with the transition and we should all try to be patient, but patience must also have its limits. Our nation is in the midst of a coup and all dissent on the internet is being silenced in a massive coordinated effort by giant corporations. This is the time where people must be allowed to discuss politics, because we are on the cusp of losing the ability entirely and permanently.
Pretty sure we have to wait for the Mod recruitment to both start and finish for the unlock.

Just an FYI, I have begun reviewing bans with the mod staff. Decisions will be announced in their own thread.

Here is a rough schedule of what we will be doing going forward.

First, reviewing existing bans.
Second, reviewing moderation procedures and making adjustments
Third, opening up applications/invitations for new mods
Fourth, revising the rules to clarify where needed
Fifth, reopening the Politics sub forum

This was the reported plan last Saturday.

It's on the way, the current plan is that it will be reopened ~January 21st with the updated TOS, Rules, staffing changes, and ban reviews being all announced at the same time.

Again, the forum handover really wasn't supposed to happen until February 1 so everything is getting done on a much more compressed timespan than what was desired or intended.

Thanks for letting us know.

By January 21st our site should be called the Rebel Alliance 😲

That's much sooner than I expected; I didn't think it would be re-opened until February.

Okay, if you want something constructive as to the actual administration of this place, as someone who does run their own pitiful little BBS, I have to ask - what are the controls for usergroups like? My forum has really simple, convenient controls that allow one to create and maintain the groups separately, or on a user-to-user basis, with a nice little checklist of all the usergroups listed that you can check or uncheck for each user. You can create forums with only certain usergroups being able to view and/or access it. You can adjust settings within usergroups to automatically include users in them based on just being registered, or having a specific post count, or to require manual inclusion by an admin or mod. Does XF have these abilities?

I've honestly grown disinterested in this place. I'm not into fanfics at all, and for fandom discussions other places do it better. I barely visit anymore, and even that's out of a feeling of courtesy and obligation rather than genuine desire. What are the traffic statistics like at the moment?

Noticeably down, but should pick up once we reopen politics.

Actually looking at the stats, posts actually seem to be higher this time this year then it was same time last year.

I distinctly remember in December of 2019 through January of 2020 we have several days of having <100 posts and that was with Politics open. We've had one of those days so far this year as opposed to several last year. And that's in spite of the forum closing.

Have either of you happened to have noticed the increase in traffic of members who joined in 2019 when the forum opened?

I may be just imagining it but we have a bunch of older members who have somewhat drifted away coming out of the woodwork to make post here and there.

A little. Once things stabilize with the new changes solidifying we should be good.
