Gillette lost 8 billion over the toxic masculinity ad

Well this is just hilarious.

Who couldn see this coming?! I'm just shocked!

Me personally, it got me to try other brands. I found defender razor and will never go back. Far superior product for way cheaper.

How do they do on legs?
I don't shave my legs but I have very thick face hair and very sensitive skin, I am extremely prone to razor bumps and rashes.

The defender razor was really good at preventing bumps, and the extra space between blades prevents it from clogging, and because they don't clog, they last far longer than Gillette razors.

I switched to an old fashion strait razor years before this happened its cheaper and works.

You don't need a hundred blades to get a good shave you just need one good one.
I sorta did the same, but use a safety razor rather than a straight razor (straight razors still scare me a bit, plus being able to just replace a blade rather than having to sharpen them is convient). I love my safety razor and it is WAY cheaper in the long run even if a good safety razor handle has a bit higher up front cost.

Just another, seeking.
I have been called a freak of nature before, I found a set of disposable razors, the cheap crap you would use when desperate. And I was desperate at the time, a PFC that forgot to shave before checking into the school house.

They were irritating, but I got no razor bumps and I got no rashes.

But this is only when I have no choice over my perfered method.

But this is what I do for the most part.

Don't fear the blade, it's quality beats out quantity with ease. You just need a steady hand and some experience.

"Get woke, go broke" is not yet a truism, but it ought to be made one. No man with self-respect should be funding organizations that evangelize Cultural Marxism.

So, good job doing your part!

Culture war over companies being vaguely socially progressive is honestly the lamest thing in the world.

It's a massive corporation trying to make money however possible. Who gives a shit?

There's nothing healthy or desirable about media sneering at men, treating them like dirt, particularly from a business that sells products primarily to men. Nu-males may find such treatment normal and comforting -- it reminds them of how shit all males are and how much better they are than the rest for being feminists who check their privilege -- but for those who are not Marxist trash, such treatment is disgusting.

Even more pathetic? Getting mad over a corporations calculated advertising campaign cause it upsets your cultural bugbears.

You can just, like, turn off the screen man

I turned off the screen half a decade ago, and one of the reasons was the poisonous Cultural Marxist influence that pervaded both commercial and entertainment segments of television. I'm already exposed to too much of that when I read NPR, NYT, the Economist, Der Spiegel International, and the like.

But, somehow, you're still mad. Try turning off other screens, until it solves your problem

I get the impression that you think there's something wrong with my anger at Gillette's contempt for their male clientele. How very strange it must be to think such a thing. Anger at injustice, whether larger or small, is both natural and healthy. Shitty commercials are a small injustice in the scheme of things -- but they are also part of a larger trend, so they evoke reaction both to their individual shittiness and the wretched Cultural Marxist narratives they partake of.

I called it pathetic, so your impression seems correct.

Getting mad over commercials designed to sell a product is far more sad than whatever "contempt" you read into it

So, is this the issue?

Because... what's so anti-masculine about this? It's a bit heavy-handed, I'll grant, but the basic message seems to be to teach boys that it's not okay to gang up on and bully someone, or to treat women like pleasure objects? (Although I'm thinking more the bit of the ass-grabbing, not the interested look. Wolf whistle's probably a bit uncalled for too)?

Was it the method the message was given? Or attached things like press releases?

It was this coming out around the same time that the APA released this thing calling traditional masculinity harmful.

I think the timing of the two really gave it impact.

More importantly, there is a big divide between people on this. The big disagreement is whether it was aimed against men in general or just "toxic" men. A lot of people are noticing a trend of shitting on and demonizing men, and view this as part of it.

Apparently enough of them to lose the company 8 billion dollars.

It would not be the first and only time a massive corporation dips its toes into popular politics or the culture side of them...

And the very point of contention is that if this is to try and sell products, advertising that by talking smack about the target customer base of this product is a very... unconventional way of doing it. And if said customer base won't explain it to them, who will?

My guy, "I didnt like your ad" is not cause for crazy culture war hair pulling, it's cause for getting on with your life, ignoring all ads as shit trying to manipulate you into purchasing things against your best interest, and then purchasing whatever product most cost effectively meets your needs, as you should have been doing beforehand.

Depends if the ad is just plain bad (and 99.9% ads are at least annoying to me), or bad in a way connected to the culture war, like it clearly was in this case.
as shit trying to manipulate you into purchasing things against your best interest
Yes, that's what an ordinary ad is supposed to be doing,
And there would be nothing special about this one if it did exactly that, it would get no more attention than a million other ads.
Hilariously enough, this one is different because it's questionable whether it's doing that.
Even though as an ad it should. Which represents an unusual level of fail, one worthy of mockery.
and then purchasing whatever product most cost effectively meets your needs, as you should have been doing beforehand.
Which probably most do anyway.
