See this is the problem with the farce of Nurenburg, it destroys centuries of legal tradition in the name of liberalism.

Not so much "liberalism", as "OMFG these brutal genocidal maniacs presided over the industrialised genocide of countless millions, screw them" and "what if this situation happens again, we need a legal precedent". Which were certainly worthy goals, and the ex post facto law issue is forgiveable considering this sort of situation had not happened before, at least in historical memory. One can argue that this was a mistake and that they should have all just been arbitrarily executed, but that's the simple age-old problem of hard cases making bad law.

In the immediate circumstances of the time it was justified and the Nazi vermin who hanged or got sent for life imprisonment were given far better treatment than the millions they slaughtered like lice. Those who weren't seriously involved in war crimes or crimes against humanity (sadly, along with Albert "I designed the concentration camps" Speer) even got relatively light prison sentences, and one or two who weren't deep into it at all even got acquitted of all charges.

So ... in that case, if Nuremberg was the result of small-l liberalism, it can be considered a good thing.
