I was just kind've scrolling and giggled at the photoshop of Super Man and Batman as generic RWBY anime-boys and only then noticed the hollywood reporter article.
...
'Oh how the might have fallen' seems appropriate-ish at this point, but I'm not sure if that applies to RWBY or DC more (maybe both). This seems incredibly, incredibly, shark-jump-y? Like...It feels like someone told a corporate exec about how Japan does weird crossover stuff in some of its media and the exec went "Brilliant! Let's do that too!" without any further commentary made.

That said, maybe I'm being unfair here since, as I've vaguely heard repeatedly around the internet how the DC animated stuff is actually pretty solid. It's just...assuming it is solid studd, do you pair that with RWBY? RWBY has somewhat of a roller-coaster, even in just recent history much less longer.

Or maybe those are your legit feelings and not lighthearted trolling--I, alas, only saw a handful of episodes of the Pokemans back in the Days of Yore (90s) and had to go internet-searching for who the devil this 'May' character was, so I've no idea how appropriate or not that is.

I've seen some clips of May from the anime, and she and Ash bounce off each other pretty well. I can see why people would root for that ship, especially since tsunderes like Misty aren't that popular anymore.

IIRC, didn't one arc introduce Ash's childhood friend who had the hots for him? I guess she wasn't popular with the fans?

You're thinking of Serena from XY. Ash helped her out once at summer camp and she developed a crush on him. When he came to Kalos, she saw him on TV and decided to leave home to go follow him around, but eventually decided she wanted to go do Pokemon contests. She gave Ash a goodbye kiss at the end of XYZ. She was quite liked by the fandom and people were hoping that she would have travelled with him to future regions.

The only PokeGirl who is unpopular is Iris, from Black & White, because she kept deriding Ash for no real reason. Misty berated Ash in the original show too but Ash was dumb back then kept doing stupid stuff and Misty was looking out for his wellbeing.

Yeah, I didn't watch much new anime this year, but I think that

Reincarnated as a Sword/Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita must be the best anime of the year, change my mind.

I thought it was kind of meh personally better than most isekais but that bar is kind of low tbh. Eminence of shadow is sort of entertaining though, if only because the mc is 110% one flew over the cukcoos nest, needs to be locked in a padded room insane. The idea for reincarnated as a sword is sort of novel though and I suppose that avoids the cringe harem cliche since dude is a sword.

Too many isekai protags are virgin shut in losers who suddenly have 20 women lusting after and willing to share them in a harem. That and most that go that route tend to turn into what is basically a boring ass self insert uplift fanfic.

Eminence of shadow mc has a number of women into him but he's oblivious, he's also completely insane to the point had he not died in our world he would have been on multiple watch lists as a potential domestic terrorist.

That's more an issue with harem protagonists in general, not just the ones in isekai. Too many end up acting like prepubescent boys trapped in the bodies of teenagers/young adults; fleeing in terror any time a member of the opposite sex shows any interest in them whatsoever.

"Hurr durr why teen MC be hornog in ecchi tiddy anime" I've seen far too many people bitch about the times when Issei is being editorially mandated to act like a kissless virgin while whining in the next breath about him being such a horndog like a regular teenager. Can't really win with the non-Asian anime crowd.

Bruh, there'll be whining even if the MC has had experience with women. The gamer MC of that space mercenary isekai LN for example, dude's implied to have been a regular guy who'd been with women before pre-isekai and he's doing normal relationship shit with his haremettes and I still saw bitching about him having women.

Never heard that one but that sounds more reasonable than most examples. I think the biggest reason is that the harem shit tends to cause the plot to stagnate frequently in a lot of these stories.
EDIT: a solution that no one does for some reason is to have protagonist just do one night stands instead of getting a harem.
