This was a fun show in its first few seasons. I remember the original author penned a final episode script for the fans where he laid out what he had originally intended, and it was far better than what we got.
I think I might have stumbled across that a few years back via tvtropes somehow.

I remember that as well but could you link it?

So many good memories to this show... This was to me a bit like what Star Trek was for most scifi fans. The darker undertones and more solid science elevate it beyond Star Trek in many aspects (I'm generally not a Star Trek fan, to be honest), although, of course, I'm only talking about the first few seasons.

I always wanted to write a fanfic where Argosi Special operations helps out the Rebel alliance in exchange for hyperdrive. Disney buying Star Wars killed my creative energies though. Would have been cool to see Rhade interact with Luke's optimism and his dismay at the fact that the Jedi didn't run around impregnating every female in the GFFA.

I started a story based off the Episode Unconquerable man. Where Rhade was Captain of the Andromeda. Thanks to the Tesseract device Somehow Rhade was in two places at once, on the Andromeda fighting Dylan in the past but also in the present with the crew at Sintii. Reality is crumbling around them but Trance has a plan to save them. Reality in the Andromeda verse is set thanks to Rhade and Dylan, but maybe....this version of them could go somewhere else and start anew and build something new.

That sounds like it would be a big improvement over Disneywars.

Taking a break from my watching of Andromeda but I'm heading into Season Three. Seasons One and Two were strong as expected (though I found the Season Two finale a bit less stellar then the first one). People say its the third season where things began to drop in quality and I can sort of see it.

However it's far from all bad. The first several episodes of Season Three were actually rather disappointing. Not only were the themes pretty bad (ie the new Commonwealth is an obstacle obstructing and even pursuing Andromeda) but the plotlines were pretty bad IMHO as well.

The second episode of the third season was exceptionally bad to the point it was smh amusing where Captain Hunt and Harper are somehow framed for murder and arrested by their own Commonwealth and then we had a villain who was so ridiculously smug and overconfident that it was painful with how undeserved it was. Like they were trying to make him out to be some criminal mastermind but he came off as some dude reading a script. Then there was an episode with the crazy people and it just had so many people acting dumb and contrived that it made me sigh. Some of the scenes were fun though.

But after two weak episodes, we had John DeLancie back and while I was about to roll my eyes at another Commonwealth Corrupt/Incompetent storyline, this one actually worked and was a nice character development story. Then I really loved the episode where they encountered an ancient (some say legendary) exploration vessel from ancient Earth whose Captain was portrayed by Tony Todd. Awesome one off episode.

THEN it got even better with an episode I actually did remember. Slipfighter the Dogs of War. Now this episode is what Andromeda should've been all about. It's the TV series at its most memorable best, taking those slipfighters in an era of smart missiles and combat probes and stealthing their way into a heavily fortified space equivalent of North Korea to prevent the illicit construction of Nova Bombs.

So the quality hasn't been as consistent as in the first two seasons where (dated CGI and fight choreographjy aside) were generally above average but there's been strong episodes and really weak ones. When I start watching it again, it'll be nice to see how this rollercoaster continues its ups and downs.
