Five minutes of hate news

In other five minutes of hate news, there's this mentally ill man running for governor of California. This would normally be par for the course in California, but he's running as a republican which makes it slightly more annoying than usual. I think his name's Bruce Jenner or something?

Humorously enough, said candidate's website has a "donate" button but no actual policies listed, which sounds about right.

Essentially, we have two problems here.
  • Vital computer-chip manufacturing takes place in Taiwan, which will be a serious problem for America if/when the PRC conquers Taiwan. Recommended solution, immediately classify rebuilding said manufacturing industries in the deindustrialized American heartland as a matter of national security, hang the expense and practicality and subject every single offshoring-loving corporatist against doing so and responsible for having offshored American industries in the first place to mccarthyism version 2.0, 'are you a PRC agent' edition.
  • American leadership is infested with bloodthirsty lunatic warhawks who want to risk nuclear war over Taiwan. Recommended solution, removing said lunatics from power is essentially self-defense, insofar as their agenda would get us all killed.

No it isn't; most of our leadership wants to go to war with Russia, not China.

I think it's more accurate to say that most of the parasitic class is invested in the global american empire, the so-called "international community," and global liberalism. This naturally leads to greater tension with the countries that are genuinely sovereign, rather than being de-facto client states due to either military or economic balance. Russia and it's clients are a better boogeyman for global liberalism, but the same underlying reality plays a role in our tensions with China as well.

Say an enemy country sinks a US carrier.
6k US service members lost.

Do you think people will cheer on the enemy? Especially if the carrier group was there just to be a deterence?

The Left definitely would. In fact, they would be saying that the crew deserved it because they were serving "evil imperialists", and that US military should be disbanded and all the soldiers shot.

So...we shouldn't defend Taiwan?

No, that would be me. And I can tell quite clearly that I don't have any sympathizers to the "better irradiated than red" standpoint in congress.

Technically it's not "phobia" because it's not an irrational fear --like jumping out of a moving car just because you see a spider on the dashboard-- but such things are typically motivated by irrational hatred. But yeah, I agree with you. It is bigotry.
Yeah, homophobia is badly named, as it doesn't necessarily mean fear. But it stuck.
The Jenners are NOT republican...of they are they are RINOs...
The thing is, a RINO is a whole lot better than a democrat, and that's the probable alternative. Caitlyn was praised as such a 'hero' for changing gender (and to be fair, she is one of the real transwomen, not one of the trenders, as she wanted to transition for a while before), that the left's usual tactics will fall flat. Look, in very blue states, RINOs are all you get cause they beat the alternative. And a RINO winning is the best shot at California not fully invading Texas also.

No he doesn't. The thing is even among democrats, nobody really likes these people. If you're trying to peel off like, suburban white liberals, you might have to credibly signal that you're nice and polite and pc to them. It's about not being rude and about being nice and sympathetic to people who are far away from you. Actually being a freak just hurts.

Jenner doesn't make it to the runoff, would be very surprised if he got >10% prior.

Jenner has being trans going for them.
And the fact that the Kardashians and Jenners somehow had a long lasting show survive

You misunderstand, "being trans" isn't positive electorally for anyone. Republicans think they're freaks, White working class people do too, hispanics don't like them, blacks only like them on the down low and then kill them afterward, the White suburbanites who you can peel off care about being polite they don't actually like them, and the sort of White liberals and hardcore leftists who it might be a + for are never going to vote R anyway.

Yeah, Trans status might, theoretically, provide protection from some specific personal attacks but you're more likely to just see "Internalized Transphobia" in the same vein as the left accusing women of internalized misogyny and blacks of internalized racism. It doesn't generate any extra votes (beyond, potentially, a handful of transpersons but the number of them is too small to matter).

Being an Olympic athlete and TV personality are probably better hooks but I'm not sure Caitlyn Jenner has the kind of Star Power that let Arnie or Ronald Reagan get into office.
