Like with the other Youtuber recommendation threads, who are your favorite content creators when it comes to gaming reviews/commentary/lore/lets plays and so forth.

Please try to explain why you like them and what they do and cover, don't just post a link.

And this is more for "independent" creators. So no Gamespot/IGN/Kotaku type of stuff here.

Tiamat

I've seen the future...
I like Kikoskia. Very witty, hilarious, easy to listen to and not at all obnoxious like some others. He does mostly games from yesteryear but also some new ones.

He also acts as gamemaster for some live RPGs such as Call of Cthulhu and Paranoia, at whIch he rocks, seriously. Just pop on his rpg sessions for a weekend afternoon while reading a good book, and be entertained.

Harlock

I should have expected that really
Korone the Japanese anime gaming dog girl. Can't understand a word she says but her Doom play through was the most engaging thing I've seen on youtube. I have never seen anyone so perfectly joyful to be dismembering things with a chainsaw.

Neebs Gaming

Neebs gaming is a group of guys that get together and play games a bunch. What I like about them is that they lean more towards playing games as a roleplay experience rather than as an explicit video gaming series. A very lighthearted, non-serious roleplay, but it's still something differant from the usual. They talk as if they are their character, use various recording tools to give the recordings a more cinematic look, treat the game as "real" and rarely refer to in game mechanics as such, etc.

For an example of this in play, and on of the funniest things they've done (IMO):

For lore, I've generally found Oxhorn and Arch Warhammer to be fairly good sources, as far as the generally field of "youtube lore guy" thing goes. They both aim to cover content in depth rather than to hit a youtube time slot, and put a lot of work and thought into their coverage. Arch's series on the seige of Vraks is amoung the best 40k content on youtube, and probably among his best works as it's more tightly scripted than his regular work and free of his biggest flaw, which is his habit of letting his political opinions creep into the video.

Easily DougDoug. He has a lot of fun "solving problems no one has" like can twitch chat fly a plane in GTA V, or can he get a star in Super Mario 64 using only his voice. You know, important problems. The biggest thing is that he understand that twitch streams are for entertainment, and he goes all out for that.

Like he starts a 1hp run of Skyrim, but gets sidetracked holding a murder trial of a companion for killing him, with twitch chat :

Or that time he tried to explain Animal Crossing with food metaphors, but got sidetracked trying to kill Tom Cook:

When it comes to just general gaming videos, my favorite is ChristopherOdd.

He is very affably Canadian and plays a lot of horror games, RPG games and FPS games but usually has to be ones with a higher story component. But he's also played strategy games as well. I was originally turned onto him by watching his Dark Souls lets plays and his conquests there were very fun to watch and his demeanor and attitude definitely made me feel some sympathy for him as he journeyed through those games.

His first lets play was with Half Life which was my favorite game series of all times but he's done a lot of lets plays that I've adored watching him go through ranging from Shadows of the Colossus, and God of War to Disco Elysium and the Witcher series. He's even drifted into other genres like his 100+ video playthrough of They Are Billions or Darkest Dungeon and horror games such as SOMA or Resident Evil 7.

Highly recommend checking him out if there's games your interested in watching but maybe not interested in playing or just for nice background noise. :p

Usually not a fan of the *loud* reaction video style commentators like Markiplier, but I did watch Markipliers SOMA playthrough and while some of his mannerisms (like loudly naming a robot drone Bubblebutt) it was pretty tolerable to watch him play such a heavy game and I actually found it an interesting pleasure to watch.

When it comes to super popular gaming Youtubers, my main pick would be TheRadBrad since he seems to have a pretty good commentary style. Smooth and excited without sounding too obnoxious and he doesn't curse like a child either or speak some random accented form of English. :p

But yeah, I prefer smaller Youtubers in general and intentionally try to look for them if I wanna check out a game walkthrough or commentary.
