Disney Plus...

So anyone else get Disney+ yet? I got it, probably keep it for a month before canceling. It seemed cool at first but honestly the selection was rather... underwhelming. I dunno, I just expected more. It had all of the ol' Disney animated movies and Pixar, MCU and Star Wars stuff as well as old cartoons and Disney channel nonsense, but I guess I didn't realize that Disney+ would just be PG-13 and that they'd keep a lot of their Fox stuff on Hulu or off of this platform or whatever.

So yeah... I don't have Hulu either. But regardless, it's probably for the best. Already saw the Mandalorian and I can go through Rebels and some other series I never bothered watching if and when I get the time and then cancel it out. Which is nice... saves me money from THE MOUSE!

I would expect more Fox stuff to move over in time but a lot of the more adult content may stay with Hulu. I could also see them being combined at sometime in the future too.

As it stands Diseny+ is good for a Disney fan since they have all the Disney name brand movies and shows. It does lack some of the Disney off shoot companies even if it has the major ones like MCU.

Personally I like for the MCU content, older Disney cartoons like Gargoyles and the Disney movies. Even better it makes my baby sitting duties easy since my Neice is at the Disney Princess stage and loves all the Disney Channel movies too.

All Star Wars all the time for Disney+

Andor, a series no one asked for about that Mexican dude who died in Rogue One. In case you forgot, his name was something Andor. Cassie or something. :sneaky:

Obi Wan Kenobi. After Andor fails, Obi Wan Kenobi, another new Star Wars television series will likely be their only hope. Along with Ewan McGregor reprising his role, Hayden Christensen will be back as Darth Vader in the series.

Or at least it would be the only hope if Disney wasn't still making a half dozen more Star Wars projects for Disney Plus! Like Lando, featuring a character named Lando who is in fact Black... and thus has to be directed by a Black Director, the same one who created the much beloved film Dear White People.

There's also The Acolyte featuring Leslye Headland who also helped produce *googles* The Bacherlorette... Srsly? Wait a minute, I recognize her, she's the lady in all of those Youtube videos pointing out how woke Star Wars is... Shit! That's not a good sign if that's all I know her from.

But don't worry, if those don't suit your tastes, we have two animated Star Wars cartoons series, The Bad Batch (allegedly produced in partnership China's exclusive Wuhan Production Studio) and A Droid Story which is hopefully a deligthful tale about IG-88 murdering people and being a father figure to a growing (and constantly hungry) World Devastator.

DO YOU LIKE STAR WARS? Don't worry, there's also Star Wars Visions, a series of short films about Star Wars!

Also beyond Star Wars, they're remaking Willow into a television series! Why Willow? Because they couldn't get their grubby hands on The Princess Bride yet probably. What's that? You want more remakes of old and forgotten Disney properties?

How about 1992's The Mighty Ducks... except this time it'll be called Game Changers!

"In present day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Estevez), they discover the joys of playing just for the love of the game."

What? I don't even know...

Also they're updating Turner & Hooch! It'll star Josh Peck. I think he was in the Red Dawn remake which tells you he knows a quality role when he sees one. Considering his role as the dumb, ugly, stupid younger brother to Chris Hemsworth, presumably he'll be the dog in this film. Or maybe he will be reprising Tom Hanks character...

ALSO IN DEVELOPMENT! A prequel series to Beauty & the Beast, a new version of Swiss Family Robinson and... and... and... holy shit... something originally adapted for television. The Mysterious Benedict Society, based off of some Young Adult novel series, apparently those are still relevant, and Big Shot, a drama series starring John Stamos as the coach of a Girls High School Basketball team!

Oh my gosssssssshhhhh I'm so excited...

Not gonna lie. A spy thriller series about Cassian Andor actually sounds pretty dope. The 45 seconds where they actually let him play a hardened undercover agent at the start of rogue one was neat, if it’s more of that the series might be, dare I even say it... pretty okay!

So you are losing your mind about something we barley have any info on?
What if they turn out great?
I hate when people take the litlest info they have and then go and make these big assumptions.

I can tell you we may be surprised.
Like Bryce Dallas Howard in Season 2 of Mando. Her episode was a damn good one, and she directed it beautifully. Her acting is...okayish. Basing something on someone producing or acting in something can not always tell their directing skills.

The New Mighty Ducks spin off is probably going to be on the level of the second or third Ducks movie. It will be your average sports movie and not much else. The only really great one was the first one.

As for the Star Wars shows it seems like Disney is hoping that after the the failure of the newest Trilogy keeping fans engaged that the magic from Mandalorian will keep the franchise alive. There is a lot of potential in Star Wars T.V. shows that can be explored. I am worried that it seems like they are just tossing leveryth in ng and hoping something will stick.

I kind of hope the Lando show works out. I would love to see a young Lando going around trying to make his latest scam or plot work. It could be a fun show that explores a part Star Wars universe that we only saw a little of in the EU books.

It also seems like Marvel while not ending is winding down. No more hit Netflix shows or Prime time cable. Expect for Spiderman and Antman most of the remaining heroe movies are running into problems. While they have promised some shows for Disney+ it remains to be seen if they are hits or duds.

Overall I think this looks like a mixed bag of stuff but I am glad that Disney+ is getting some attention for original programming since it seems like they were expecting to mainly live off Disney XD and Channel offerings with movies to flesh it out.

Attention all Sean Connery fans, or at least those that haven't cancelled DIsney+ already, Zardoz is now available on the streaming service.

Disney is apparently dumping a whole lot of films from the Fox library and other dumpsters they raided onto their service, hundreds of them, as well as about 150 "new" television shows. It looks like Disney+ is gradually showing more adult oriented content on the platform, though obviously nothing too lewd beyond Zardoz level of seeing Sean Connery in a mankini I guess.

As stated elsewhere:

Toronto Now said:
On February 23, Disney+ adds a new tier to the service: an adult-oriented “general entertainment brand” called Star, which will offer all the movies and series that don’t fit under the Disney logo.

Star, which arrives in the existing Disney+ app with new parental controls for mature content, will carry over 150 television series and more than 500 feature films from Disney’s various libraries, including everything mentioned above as well as the Omen, Planet Of The Apes and French Connection films, David Cronenberg’s The Fly, John Carpenter’s Big Trouble In Little China, Brian De Palma’s The Fury, Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line and John Boorman’s Zardoz, which is in itself a very good reason for parental controls. (Most of Wes Anderson’s features will be on there too.)

No matter how much stuff is on there, or how cheap it is, you can still probably pirate all of it, and it's always going to be cheaper to hoist the black flag than it is to pay for a subscription. Why give money to people that hate you?

Tbh though I haven't been watching any of it anyway, though.

I've sort of cut the cord in our household. There's not much point in paying for anything other than basic cable. Plus most network programming is an outdated fashion anyway with digital streaming being more popular.

Though this has its own issues. There's simply too many now to choose from. The good thing about the early days of Netflix was that there was simply one universal streaming platform, but now the market is oversaturated. Paying for multiple streaming services now basically negates the advantages of cutting the cord for cable now.

And with Disney Plus, I don't really see much use for it at the moment. There's hardly any really new content other than say the Mandalorian which is worth watching.

I know Disney is adding to the MCU via Disney Plus, but I feel like that peaked with Endgame, and I generally feel fatigued watching superhero movies/tv shows now.

Zardoz has a ton of nudity and rape, though, so I'm guessing it's going to be heavily censored.

Yeah apparently all of this R rated Disney Plus content is a thing outside of America. In the US, Disney expects you to use Hulu for most of the crap. So you know, just another reason for VPN services I guess...

Marvel will be fine. Wandavision is very popular (like Mandalorian levels on my college campus).

They haven't hurt any of their goodwill, Thor 4 is likely to still be a good movie, Black Widow is also likely to be popular.

I have hype for the next Spiderman movie and Doctor Strange movie.

There's hype for the Loki spinoff series.

Personally, I don't want to have a regular TV subscription service when I have my own place. (I'll probably keep Prime Video, but I barely use it - I have Prime entirely for Prime Shipping, Prime Music, and other various Prime-Specific Amazon benefits). I do currently have access to my brother's Hulu and HBOMax accounts, though I barely use them.

I'll probably watch the new Tom & Jerry on HBOMax today.

Didn't Disney go back and do some really lame censorship on some of their old movies already? I seem to recall seeing it brought up in some videos and articles.
