Derek Chauvin Trial: summer 2020 electric boogaloo

Not how it works I believe. He can only be punished for one, but if only one gets overturned on appeal (usually from a technicality), the others stand, IIRC. Even if he does get punished for all 3, they'd be severed concurrently, not consecutively, which means he'd serve no extra time.
How can someone be guilty of both manslaughter and murder. I don’t get that

All of the charges are 'manslaughter' in the common use of the phrase meaning unintentional killing. Murder 2 was unintentional killing while doing another felony, Murder 3 was unintentional killing while doing something eminently dangerous and showing no regard for human life, and manslaughter was unintentional killing while negligent, IIRC the last one.

So if someone is negligent, doesn't care if people live or die, and does a felony, and during the course of all that kills someone, they are guilty of all 3.

This doesn't mean more punishment, as the sentences are likely concurrent.

No the evidence is not damning.
Chauvin did nothing fucking wrong.
Plenty have proved it.
Nelson fucking proved it.
The jury just got fuckijg intimidated by a bunch if crazy commies and rioters.

This is like the PERFECT ad for a 2nd amendment person btw.

"On a jury and people try to scare you into voting a certain way? Carry (put your favorite firearm here) once it is all over, so if they do try something, you are ready."

Did you actually watch the video? Or any of the trial itself? Because from what I saw, I'd say it's pretty damn clear Chauvin was in the wrong.

There's always talk about how it's the 1-2% of bad apples who give cops a bad reputation. Chauvin is one of those. It's not just a hypothetical.

Floyd was an idiot for committing a crime and then resisting, but that doesn't give a cop free rein. There are procedures in place to follow, and hell, the people who *wrote* the procedures were saying "He violated them."

I also found it quote telling that at *no* point did the defense argue what he did was justified; rather, the crux of their argument was that "it can't be determined whether Chauvin's actions played a role in Floyd's death and he knew that."

Now do the riots happen anyway? Even after the show trial returned the correct triple threat guilt verdict? Though it’s hilarious that he’s guilty of both deliberate and accidentally killing the guy dying of drugs. At this point he gets what 25 to life from the triple charge? Police have shot people and gotten less.
He didn't get death row.
Therefore it wasn't enough

Generally each charge has different standards for the burden of proof that the prosecution has to meet. The standard to convict for Manslaughter or Murder 2 will vary wildly from third or first degree murder etc.

And Juries are obligated by law to convict solely based off those standards. Something that meets the standards for manslaughter usually doesn't for the others.

A Judge can set the verdict aside and in some states recommend the jury for a fine or something based off that.

Not just that dumbass but the Press doxxing the Jury a week ago IIRC.

That's textbook criminal intimidation. You can't do that shit without causing a mistrial.
Oh don't forget the Maxine Waters speech
No. It's very difficult to appeal what goes on in the jury room, unless you know racial bias or something like it occurred. Any conviction would have been appealed, the full conviction just makes it more durable, absent a full mistrial (looking at you, Maxine Waters).

Uh no it isn't in this case.
Because we know they were intimidated in various ways. Almost all recorded or reported on

Oh no, I think the appeal fails. This trial and verdicts will accelerate the enshrinement of full protected status for visible minorities. At this point, if you try and arrest them and they die due to basically anything at this point the officer gets to go to jail. This is clearly what the people want, so let them have it.

That's all outside the jury room. I'm talking about discussion inside the jury room specifically. It's almost impossible to convict a juror of malfeasance.

Intimidation, on the other hand, can overturn a verdict into a mistrial. That seems possible, but unlikely. The things that don't get overturned on appeal are frequently very unfair as well, but judged to be not unfair enough to have affected the trial, so I don't hold out much hope.

You think intimidation is unlikely when we had a politician making threats?

Even given Waters' and Biden's statements, is there any court with the stones to grant an appeal, what with the press and politicians so blatantly being out to ruin your life and the blakkk mob eager to finish the job physically if they don't get what they want? Looks to me like this is the rebirth of the inglorious United States of Lyncherdom, just with the colors swapped around. Hell, worse than before - I don't think even Woodrow Wilson publicly declared he was praying for a guilty verdict in any case back in the day.

I think you're factually correct that the verdict will not be successfully appealed or overturned into a mistrial, but given your stance has been that Chauvin should be found guilty of at least 3rd degree murder & 2nd degree manslaughter characterizing yourself as not "hold[ing] out much hope" seems a bit disingenuous to me.

Oh I don't think it will be.

part of me grimly hopes Chauvin gets fucked so white people will finally wake up and join the based Dominicans in going apeshit.

Most of me hopes that doesn't happen.

Oh don't forget the pigs head on the defense witnesses old house.

Basically, they have nearly pulled out every stop of legit criminal intimidation

It'll come down to if there's a Judge with balls who loves America enough to do it.

I don’t think that the case will be successful appealed. Not because the guilty verdicts are valid, they aren’t, even if there was enough evidence to convict him (which isn’t remotely true) but because our system is so corrupt and biased that they won’t let him receive a fair trial. There was so much political and social pressure on the entire process to get a guilty verdict that a fair trial was entirely impossible to start with.

Look, it’s gonna take us a bit ok. North America doesn’t have the practice Europe has in going zero to jackboots. So we’re going to need you to cover for us while we all try and work out how the boots go on. Afterwards, once we get going you can teach us the magic of alternative uses for aircraft.
