A planet with untold numbers of giant gemstones just lying around? Looks like the jewelry market just crashed. Our economy might need some help. No one was really at fault for this, as it wasn't a speculative bubble.

Hope nobody gets the idea to weaponize the slime by dropping it on a planet and letting it multiply until it covers the planet and eats everyone.

Doesn't hurt to hear them out. Maybe these guys are a faction that wants to reform their ways. Even if these guys are the evil slavers, maybe they want to make an alliance of convenience against a greater threat. Won't know till we find out.

Also, it's bad form to kill diplomatic parties. If word gets out that we do that, that could very well discourage other people from doing the same, which could unnecessarily cause bloodshed and prolong wars (like if we're fighting a country and they think they shouldn't bother trying to forge a truce with us because we'll just kill their envoys anyway).

Time for a Treasure Planet remake. Alternatively, the princesses of the Griffin Empire will have a solid emerald rattle filled with rubies, sapphires, topaz, and diamonds, to show solidarity and humility by having your children's toys be made of common rocks anyone can obtain cheaply.

I swear that I have read that word before. I just can't remember where. And no I don't mean from Noah's ark either.
Wasn't Arrarat the place where the last battle of the Thunder warriors took place? Where shortly afterwards the custodes killed the survivors.

They deserve shooting, and are unlikely to offer anything of real value, but it's not impossible. They could, for instance, have decided their new warships means they don't need to serve the Dracs anymore, and have decided to share information about them. Doubtful, but not impossible. Always hold to rules of war where possible, they exist for a reason.

There's also the fact that they are in a new Scout. This could mean that they are expanding their shipyards or that they are buying them from someone else and that means that there could be another technologically advanced people out there.

[X] We can always shoot them AFTER we've heard them out
