Ah I love the smell of missile spam in the morning
Having never actually fought our heavy units before, they certainly did not expect anywhere near that level of casualties; they expected their sheer numbers to allow them to *win* while taking llight losses below CLG, as they have in several past engagements.
Plus while the losses are painful given a few turns we can readily replace them and we'll be ready for the tactic next time

Didn't they set themselves up for a Kamikaze attack from the very beginning though? it's kind of odd.

If that was their current mentality you'd expect them to start with a conventional attack (before seeing the massive amount of firepower we can unleash) before resolving to go for the suicide attacks.

Considering their focus on Griffin's Roost it appears like the Dracs haven't fully realized yet that we have spread to different planets already?

-- Given our individually superior firepower and range, maybe the next engagement should see us trying to maximize the engagement duration rather than mimimize the intercept time? It seems like we didn't really get to use the advantages our own sub-capitals and nuclear weapons offered due to the rapid speed at which both fleets closed in on each other. Also, it's pretty obvious that nukes are the Samuel Colt of space warfare, so we should get as many on launchers as we can.

I think we're at the point we can get primary, but I want the secondary goals too.

Now that Kamikaze is a thing that function in the system, we need things to help with this. The forts will die, almost guaranteed, but at least their primary damage is capital, so they'll do damage before that point. And admittedly, the fort where we didn't counterattack the incoming invasion force was going down anyways

Its always almost guaranteed with starfort's in most Sci-Fi I've read they are used mainly as forlorn hopes and tripwires against incoming forces.

With some notable exceptions but in general those only defend a specific part of space like the area around a wormhole and are usually in pretty darn high in overall numbers

Yeah, most universes, Battletech included, will ensure that battles continue to happen. Effective space stations swing the setting to where both sides turtle instead of being able to attack each other, and thus get nerfed to ensure stations can't stop there from being battles.

Omake: Come To The Dark Side, We Have Cookies Missiles

“Dear, we have a disaster on our hands!” cried Willis as he rushed into the royal quarters, eyes wide with panic and arms waving frantically. “Thanh has fallen to the Dark Side and it’s all YOUR fault!”

“Oh really now?”

“Yes! You keep putting her in command of big ships, and now she’s gone and betrayed fighter pilots forever!!!” Willis sank into the very comfortable couch and thrust a data slate at the Empress. “Just look at this!”

“What am I looking at here?”

“It’s an unholy abomination of anti-fighter-ness that Thanh cooked up with S.A.R.A.H.!”

“Dad is just all sour grapes because he can’t come up with a way to beat Project Typhon with ASFs.” declared Thanh with distinct smugness as she entered the room. “It’s a long term answer to large-scale swarm attacks like the Dracs just threw at us, albeit one based on Star League naval weapons that we haven’t actually redeveloped yet.”

“It’s evil and cheating.” grumbled Willis. “Nobody should ever have that many missiles in one place.”

Jackie raised an eyebrow at the ship specs. “Logistics is going to have griffkittens supplying this monster. One hundred forty-four LRM-20 racks, forty-eight launchers for the new Swordfish subcapital point-defense missiles that haven’t even made it out of the lab yet, and how many Star League capital missiles?”

“Ninety-six launchers -- twelve in each firing arc, with two hundred forty missiles in the ready magazines.” expounded the naval officer cheerfully. “And they’re Killer Whales as opposed to Barracudas -- the very heaviest capital missiles in the Star League arsenal, which makes them the most effective at punching through massed anti-missile fire.”

“See!” Willis pointed his finger in grand accusation. “This is all your fault!”

“In all seriousness, this looks like an excellent idea.” said the Empress approvingly. “While I'm cautiously optimistic that the Dracs will be a resolved matter by the time we could actually put these vessels into production, an anti-fighter WarShip along these lines would be an excellent counter to the large numbers of drone fighters operated by the Amaris pirates. You totally have my approval to push it to actual design work.”

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

It would have some energy weapons as backup though, right?

Yes. The total armament package for the proposed WarShip is 32 Naval Laser 55s, 72 Killer Whale launchers, 48 Swordfish launchers, 144 LRM-20 racks, and 160 Anti-Missile Systems, on a 1 million ton heavy cruiser platform with 20 drop collars and 2,500 tons of armor.

How many small craft does it carry?
Because I have the feeling that it should carry Dropship missile boats. And small craft missile boats, like this one.

Oh. I think I have a name for it: Manticore.
