-[X] "Is there anything you need help with aside from the treaty? A safe spot for refugees, a refit facility, industrial capacity or knowledge, some suitcase nukes?" (Not sending along any of the *advanced tech*, but the basic tech info that's in use might be handy in shoring up any tech losses in the fighting with the Dracs, offering a relatively safe spot for at least some of their population, and of course, sharing is caring and in a way returning their property to them in a polite way...)

Turn 48 - We Are The Chosen Ones

You find out some more details about the Rasalhagian/Kuritan conflict from the emissary. For one, it has not gone nuclear, mostly due to both sides more or less existing in a state of MAD in regards to nuclear ordnance. While the Rasalhagians would love to trade with you, especially for military supplies, unfortunately they have barely enough jumpship lift to maintain their current position, the only reason the Scout was available to deliver the warning was due to its disabled drop collar and defective energy sail mechanism. If the situation changes they would be more than happy to trade, but they cannot produce their own jumpships at all.

It pretty much all comes down to that, no jumpships.

Place for refugees? They’d love to send non-combatants who want to escape the warzone to someplace safe. No jumpships to transport them.

Refit facilities? They’d love to send their oldest dropships and ASFs to be refitted to more modern standards, or even get full overhauls. No jumpships to transport them, and they need them in action too much anyways.

Industrial capacity? They’d love it! They’d buy you dry of mechs and tanks and ASFs and dropships if they could. No jumpships to transport it to them, though, or transport the payment to you.

Knowledge? Unless you happen to have the plans for jumpships you’d be willing to sell them… oh, and if they’d have to take their production facilities offline to upgrade things that would likely result in them suffering excessive losses. They are stuck under the Iron Law of mobilization, at this point any upgrades or improvements would be a double-edged sword that would injure them a great deal.

The suitcase nukes? Thanks but no thanks, we don’t have any DEST units trained in their use anyways, and they’ve likely passed their ‘use by’ date irregardless.

With that the emissary heads off to return to Rasalhagian space.

Meanwhile the Free Folk show up in the system with an offer for you. They have a trading partner coreward who is in the market for advanced autocannons, specifically Ultra AC/5. They are offering to trade you the basic system scans for a system that is within a single jump of you in the direction of the Romans, although it is somewhat outside single jump range for the Romans. Likewise it is away from both the Dracs and the Rasalhaguians, and in the opposite direction of the Rim Worlds Remnant.

The Free Folk do stress that they do not want production plans or anything like that, and advise you to ‘black box’ the UAC/5s to prevent reverse engineering.
[]Go for it
  • Obtain basic system survey data on a nearby system that is a good candidate for expansion once you have jumpships
  • Costs 10,000 to procure the UAC/5
  • Improves Free Folks opinion of Griffin’s Roost
[]Don’t go for it.

The extreme volcanism on Griffon II has increased yet again, with giant lava ‘fountains’ bubbling away as the entire surface of the planet is now lava. DoME is still coming up with increasingly wild concepts for how to terraform the place, but for now geologists are flocking to the orbital habitats, causing a serious economic boom there as this time they are actually being good guests and purchasing necessities and such from the local population.

You see some fascinating videos, including what looks like a water fountain ‘bubbler’ of lava, only this bubbler is almost 2 kilometers high.

There is what at first appeared to be a classic Pollux Man moment on Pollux, only it turned out to be the result of a terrible prank gone horribly wrong by a bunch of Castor-based college students on winter break. Nobody is sure what the morons were thinking, but the end result was the death of all six students involved, along with a dozen or so serious injuries amongst the locals and several less serious injuries to first responders. The very bright pink explosion? Visible for miles. As far as anybody can tell, the idiots were having Fun With Chemistry and blew themselves up.

Your eldest granddaughter, Tien, has gotten a Sweet 16 present from beyond the grave from Tyler… and you want to dig him up so you can throttle and defenestrate him properly. In a large box purportedly from the single most exclusive lingerie shop on the planet, thoroughly packed in almost a cubic meter of foam, Tien finally finds the actual gift: a set of keys to the latest model Lee Automotive ultra-luxury all-terrain SUV with every single possible option.

And a gift card to said lingerie shop.

Well, ‘gift card’ is saying it lightly. A gift card large enough to purchase one each of the entire inventory of said lingerie shop.

Twice.

Meanwhile, Thanh and Petra have finally given you another grandbaby, the first in a few years, with a daughter in the iron womb.

You never get tired of grandbabies.

Your grandson John has started at the Aerie, with plans to go on the Mechwarrior track like his dear old dad. He looks very fine indeed in his cadet uniform. Of course you then promptly embarrass the heck out of him by fussing over his uniform, wiping away some imaginary lint, and generally going full ba on him. Then you compound the embarrassment by doing the same to every single other cadet at the induction ceremony.

You hear through the grapevine later that the DI’s for the induction class have officially stated that they’ve had fewer things to yell at cadets concerning their uniforms this year. Evidently the threat of having the Empress herself come and fuss over their uniforms is inspiring great attention to detail.

You’ll take that as a win.

The twins’ team is doing exceptionally well, now that the twins are devoting full time to running it rather than racing as well. In the first three races of the season in the Hovercraft league they have 2 wins, 3 top 3’s, and 5 top fives between the three racers they run. In the Stock Car league they have a single win and two top 5’s, while in Formula Racing they have a pair of podiums.

Sarah has published another book, this time on more recent events and comparing them to historical antecedents.

-[X] Just make sure it's better quality than those horrible historical models that the Star League used and doesn't jam if you look at it funny. Black box that sucker.

Relations with our friends is definitely something important. Having an early start on plans for interstellar colonization is also not a bad thing, even if we're probably in a pretty good place for not needing more planets at present.
