Rest In Peace Deaths Of Note

If it's any consolation, my dad and I held out hope my grandfather (who lived to be 96) would make it to just plain 100, whereas this guy left us as a full-fledged supercentenarian! 😮

But yeah, sad to see him go, no matter how much nitpicking over age the demographers and we "young folk" like to preoccupy ourselves with. RIP, Mikizo Ueda. :(

Yeah, it's quite interesting: I had a great-uncle who lived to 95 and an in-law (this specific great-uncle's son's wife's father) who lived to age 100, but most of my relatives died in their 80s or earlier.

BTW, interesting fact, @Zyobot: Kyoto Prefecture has produced both a 116-year-old man (Jiroemon Kimura) and a 112-year-old man (Mikizo Ueda):

This is roughly as impressive as the small island of Puerto Rico, which has produced both a 115-year-old man (Emilio Mercado del Toro) and a 113-year-old man (Emilio Flores Marquez).

Puerto Rico also produced a 111-year-old man who died last year:

And another 111-year-old man who died in the past:
