Confederate Flags banned in the Military

He encountered an actual white supremacist who was his neighbor or something and it broke his mind. So it’s not concern trolling. His perspective is just utterly warped.
My neighbor turned out to be a white supremacist so now I am ok with the left completely destroying all white cultural symbols and see it as winning and constantly denounce everyone on the right who isn't a milquetoast civic nationalist demanding more appeasement because that is clearly the winning strategy? It's just so ridiculous that it comes across as trolling.

Was it even a white supremacist? Those are actually quite rare. Usually they are white nationalists. There are arguments tho that a lot of non whites are allowed to see themselves as supreme (it's usually culturally mainstream too) and that it's not fair that whites are not allowed to have an in group preference themselves.

Sadly, this is the part where I admit that I haven't been to a museum in over twenty years. As for voting on whether or not to remove a statue; while I disagree with removing them, putting it to a vote of the people is only way it should be done, if it is to be done. Not with a mob tearing them down, or local governments deciding to remove them without the consent of their constituents.

Yeah that's why the Museum argument is doubly bad.

First off I honestly can't remember the last Museum I visited but I think it was an art gallery tbh. And hinging off of that I'm pretty sure I've never been to a historical center or society or whatever various counties and municipalities call them like ever.

And secondly the Museum argument is bad because if you do love these museums so much then it's basically, oh hey I know a great place to dump all of the shit no one wants to see anymore except neoconfederates and rape advocates... The local Museum.

Just because no one goes to most of them doesn't mean they should be treated as more of dumpsters then they already are.

Oh my gosh. Reminds me of this comic.

Fits the profile of a White Nationalist. ;)

It's also important to remember that, just because a statue is moved to a museum, it does not mean said museum is going to do anything with that statue other than put it into storage alongside all the other things the general public almost never sees.

@Bacle has blocked me, but I’ve heard this account third hand.

It seems he has relatively liberal parents, and has been in conflict with his liberal dad. He himself seems to want the Republican Party to do well, not conservatism or nationalism per se.

Being exposed to what appears to be a white nationalist or someone else on the fringe has convinced him the Republicans need to become a centrist milquetoast party. Because the white nationalists, fundamentalists, and neo confederates drive away outsiders. Jettison the reactionaries and Republicans will win hearts and minds.

Given his background and seeming priorities, he fixates on this because he feels at a deep level, “this stuff is driving reasonable people away”.

Which is naive but understandable.

Obviously he’s wrong, but I can empathize to some extent with why he acts this way.

Thing is, I actually agree with Bacle that there are some positions some on the right hold that are rather... disquieting, to put it mildly, to those of us who are not also conservatives. I just don't agree with him that wanting to keep Confederate statues where they are is one of them.

The Boot has been called in. The Boot is not happy to have to do anything, so the Boot is going to keep this simple. Civility. It's a word. Learn it. Love it. You can disagree with each other, but the sniping and trolling in this thread has gotten out of hand. Do better, or the Boot will have to start to stomp, and nobody wants to see the Boot having to stomp.

Just something new to discuss also Zachowon? would you mind changing the name of this thread to expand to include all confederate symbols and statues in the discussion?

Yes it was mentioned twice already. Bacle posted it as an Argument ad Populum a page ago in lieu of an actual counter-argument. :p

Okay I sorta glosed over the last page because of all the insults, dooming and dogpiling accuring.

Well at the end of the day the republicans voted to remove it themselves even if a bit under duress that's the important thing I guess even if a majority don't approve of the decision on the ground.

Both as well as statues themselves its just the title hasn't changed yet.
ahh then. What soldiers o when off duty isnt really the militaries (or any employers) bussiness. When on duty though US servicemen shouldn't be brandishing. The symbols of US eniemies even if said enemy is defunct. I'd apply this to any and all eniemies of the United States not just the Confederates.

So is this about the flags on duty or off? Because they are very different things so it's important to be specific.

Well it seems all bases named after the Confederate Generals are going to be renamed as the senate has just passed this with a veto proof majority.

Seriously though they better stop complaining now that they 'won' that's unlikely however.

The next thing that will happen is someone from BLM will visit a miltary museum and screech racist when they find out about the M3 stuart's as well as the M3 Lee and demand that congress go all pharaoh striking the name of every confederate from every tank and history book and rename them 'Sharptons' and 'Cortez's' and every other civil right's leader to be more diverse.

Fort Bragg wont go down without a fight.

There are probably plenty of people in history with the last name Bragg, so choose one of them.

The home of SF do not play kindly to anyone.

Was the M3 named after Robert Lee or his father General 'Light Horse' Lee who fought in the American Revolution?
