Combat Reform Respect Thread: Only Real Experts Allowed

Quite a few people are idiots when it comes to this and believes Sparky and Co. and your post slightly implies that SPAAGs were abandoned in the first place.

It is a situation that has been slowly happening for a while now. I wouldn't be surprised if AHEAD style ammunition proliferates to the point that everyone and their brother has some.

By Sparky and Co., are you referring to the infamous M113-obsessed Sparks himself??

Yep, that idiot. He and the 'reformists' are something of a blight to the military community as a whole.

Sheesh, has it gotten THAT bad.? I figured if anything that group of wackos were just a sideshow on the internet for everyone else to point and laugh at.

Remember, these are the idiots that include Blacktail Defense... i.e. they think battleships are still top dog navally.

Can someone post an idea of theirs? It cant be that bad..
Well, I do have a GDI-style Tunguska I drew up in GURPS Vehicle 2e (or 3rd Edition for you other folks)... three 45mm L/100 autocannons firing at a rate of 9 rounds per second each... firing SAPHE, APEX (fancier APHE), and HEPF (HE with a prox fuse) capable of hitting things at almost 11km out... backed by two quad-tube 200mm SAM launchers capable of hitting a target at 25km and a LAMS system that can hit missiles at 11km... oh and it has a top speed of 64.4km/h just to spite you.

Tread Profile:;

First introduced in the aftermath of what would be known as the First Resource War, the DIVAD-01 'Sgt. York' was designed to utilize in-house armaments to the best effect. While many of these weapons were nothing spectacular, they were considered effective.

Sure, if a tank comes around and aims for it, it's dead... but anything that is flying is dying. ;)

Mike Sparks is a good idea fairy who thinks that every decision US Army made in the last 45 years is wrong. According to him entire army should be airmobile and the heaviest vehicle should be M-113, which should be renamed Gavin. Also they should disband USMC. His page

Pierre Sprey is mostly aircraft base good idea fairy, he believes any combat plane that isn't just wings, cockpit, gun and fuel tank strapped to an engine, is a complete waste of money. Has massive hateboner towards F-15. Convinced many that he is the conceptual father of F-16 and A-10. Judge his grip on sanity yourself (pdf file).

I think it's more enjoyable to mock them and sarcastically explore their ideas then take on the ideas with a hard critique. It'll save your sanity as well by taking it all in tongue in cheek.

I like to critique military vehicles though..

Remember, these are the idiots that include Blacktail Defense... i.e. they think battleships are still top dog navally.

I will confess I did once buy into the "battleships are still useful and necessary platforms which are totally survivable in a modern combat environment because ARMOR!" lobby, but in my defense I was fourteen at the time.

Kids and young adults are excused, it's a part of growing up. Although in these times people get crucified for something they might have said at any point in their life...

But at least you weren't one of those [TERM REDACTED] who actually believed that hybrid battleships/aircraft carriers are the wave of the future. Because that kind of folly has no excuse.

At the end of this Century we will have Battleships again. Mostly because tech is being developed that can find Subs. Swat Drones and Fighter Planes out of the sky and Directed Energy weapons are beginning to diversify. There will be battleships. But the armaments will look like something straight out of Star Trek to us.
