Versus Match Choosing the Princess Bride to be...

I'm presuming I don't have any foreknowledge. Knowing Azula's going to have a complete mental breakdown, lose everything, and wind up a disgraced political prisoner would kinda affect my consideration of her suitability.
Yeah but the things that trigger all that will not happen if she is with the Prince in his kingdom. Different location and different environment.

True but in her wiki it's described that she was a very manipulative girl even from an early age before she became her dad's favorite.

Since we're all talking casually in this thread, I figured it'd kinda go into my rankings.

Little bit of context for my king character: I'm basing my king off of how I play my Dragonborn From TES V: Skyrim at a base that'd translate to a Nordic Warrior king who is a legendary dragon slayer and seems to have all of the magical powers of a dragon and is even said to be a dragon in human flesh. He's a devout follower of a christionesque warrior religion (givin the mismatch of high fantasy aspects I don't think real world Christianity would translate as well who prior to being king helping the helpless and slain the forces of evil. He ascended the throne after helping The *Totally not an Expy for a theoretical still existing roman empire* end a civil war that was tearing his country apart, and marrying the wife of the previously fallen queen. The problem is even despite his efforts to help keep the empire together using his influence on the council the empire itself is in its twilight years. The thing is he doesn't want his kingdom and people to become puppet vassal states to some foreign empire. So he wants to make sure his family gets into a high position within another more or better yet grow his own kingdom large enough to where they can strike it out on their own

Thing is he's not a fan of political intrigue. He'll if a decision does provide political benefits he'll certainly take it but he never does it strictly for the prestige or the political benefits. In fact even when the military governor of The Empire strongly urged my player character and the queen to marry he would not marry until he had proven to win the queen's heart. To him somthing like marrige is as much (if not more so) personal than political as it is political.

now with that context I'll give my reasoning for my top two choices and probably dwell into my other choices later when I have more time. it's getting late where I am currently.

Princess Aubrey: The fact that She's a grave robber and dungeon delver doesn't bother my character in the least. That's the kind of thing he does for both fun and to help the helpless and even when he was king he was still a part-timer he only stopped doing that sort of thing because he was soon to become a full-time dad. And now that his only child is full grown and soon to be married he may go back to doing that sort of thing part-time.

The part of her killing her husband would be concerning if it wasn't for the fact that A. given the circumstances surrounding her marriage the act was pretty understandable in my character's mind if not straight-up justified. and B. Unlike with her previous lover, she and my son actually have a strong bond and history with each other. They know each other like the back of thier hands and in my character's eyes would be perfect for each other so long as my son had tough enough skin to handle the nobles snarking behind his back. (Which he honestly hopes he does give how he tried to raise his son) Sure it wouldn't put them in a better position on the political front but it wouldn't put them in a worse position then they were either. He'd just have to find another way to accomplish his goals which he is both fine with and good at. Plus with his son already impregnating her, that means his son has got a surefire heir. they just need to legitimize him or her once they are born.

Initially. this was going to be his pick too and he was just going to go through all of the potential suitors with his son as a formal courtesy that was until they got to the very next suitor.

Princess Merida: My king and his son share a sort of spirited kinship with the people of Dun Broch (IE Scotland) and the surrounding Celtic and Angelo-Saxon kingdoms, in fact he feels more Kinship with them then his actual kin in Westeros. I will admit this is partial meta-gaming on my part. Playing CK2 i've found if you start off playing within the Brittanica area sometime prior to the year 1000, if you can get a foothold and establish a kingdom, The Empire of Brittania is one of the easiest to form.

Here it's even easier as not only would my son marrying Merida give my kingdom that initial segway/foothold, but the marriage is also backed by all 4 tribal kingdoms which with what I've researched seems to expies for Ireland, Wales, Scottland and possibly early England. This means I could establish an alliance with or even unite all 4 kingdoms peacefully and establish the empire of Brittana that much quicker which allows my kingdom to establish permanent independence.

On top of all that both Meredia and my son have much in common, they both have a thirst for adventure, and they are both very attracted to each other. The only Merida doesn't have compared to Aubrey is the personal history with my son and that gap can easily fill with time.

So essentially a marriage with Merida has potentially all the benefits of Aubrey with none of the drawbacks plus it puts my charecter's kingdom in the best position possible for what I want. Hence why my character calls it a 'Golden Union' rating it even above Aubrey.

Still it should be noted that my character would be perfectly fine with his Son marrying Aubrey if that's who his heart truly belongs to. He just thinks Merida would be the best choice overall.

Queen: Anna: The only problem that my dragonborn king has with Anna is unfortunately the one huge dealbreaker and that is the fact that he'll be spending more time in Arrendell. keep in mind that the whole reason he ascended to the throne himself was because the previous king was slain by a nobleman who viewed him as little more than a king in name only and a puppet ruler, and now my firstborn is going to be spending most of time in another kingdom far north and only come back to the country he's supposed to be ruling on occasion? That's going to risk too much civil unrest at home and honestly, my son and Anna don't have enough in common nor does Arendelle really offer enough benefits (even with the Elsa card to offset the very real VERY BAD risk of civil unrest at home) could they be pen pals? Oh sure, friends? most definitely, but not married. Granted my character won't forbid the union if it's REALLY REALLY what the prince was, but he does not think it's a good idea and will try to explain every reason he can to his son as to why that would be the case.

So being a normal rich little girl. All rich little girls are manipulative. It is baked into the kit for them.

There is also the fact her nation is involved in a world war for supremacy. You know our nation might be next.

Say one other question I want to ask @Husky_Khan
What are the laws in the empire on personal wars? Like say the prince marries Maergary and she asks us to send troops to help the Tyrells in Westeros. Are we legally allowed to send our own troops in or does the empire have a policy banning this because it doesn’t want to get dragged into wars. Because while I can’t order Imperial troops to attack Lannisters or Starks. But if my personal troops do that then the Lannisters and Starks may directly attack my province which is part of the empire and then the empire would be forced to defend it.

Well I'm asking because I'm the King so I'm role playing. I'm pretty happy with my son as heir. But there is nothing wrong with wanting a spare in case the current one dies while adventuring or whatever then my dynasty is not screwed. If I still have my wife then it's ok I can have fun with her and even get safety in more kids, if I don't then I can get a mistress or whatever it's not relavent to this.

Yeah your relationship status is wide open I suppose. Could even be younger siblings. Or not. But I guess I was treating it as an only kid... because I'm sure that with MORE siblings, some of the marriages would make more or less sense because there's possible secondary options.

Oh one question what is the religion of the empire? Is it like faux Christianity like in Dragon Age? Are there any big differances?

It's probably mostly Pagan... so depending on where you are, some of the Gods are more popular then others... and some more topical then others. And some Gods worship is just universally looked down on. But there's room for 'faux Christianity' as well Dragon Age style. It's probably a minority but I don't imagine the Empire banning religions like that since they aren't actively harmful or anything.

I saw the councilor talking about elves not being gay. Does that mean that it's ok to get a Warhammer elf trap? Since they don't have weird heads? This apparently isn't gay.

Probably a cultural (and class) thing I'm sure. The Councilor could just be speaking his own opinion. :sneaky:

Dun Broch could be one province though? And if it gets in then my family would have two electoral duchies under it's control. Though yes Arrendelle is small, though it at least seems prosperous, and hopefully your descendents might have magic like Elsa.

Family might get two Elector Counts eventually yes.

Oh, can I have an in character response from my son.

Yeah my plan to deal with the first potential bride Aubrey the grave robber is to offer her a choice. She can leave the child with my family if she wants to be free, or if she prefers I will buy her a house of good quality on my lands along with servants to take care of her and the child, the child will be able to visit the palace occasionally, but she herself would not be allowed to I don't want to give her access to my keep and risk getting poisoned. Also my son won't be allowed to visit her until he has a child born from the princess he is actually marrying. Would my son think that Princess Aubrey would agree to that.

Sure in the next day or two I think... same with Kilroy. I just need to find the time.

What degree of foreknowledge do I have? Because this isn't helpful if she loses all that when her brother and his allies successfully coups the Fire Nation from her father, then she tries to take over my nation as cannon fodder to take it back. Even if she doesn't, the given the Fire Nation's demonstrated foreign policy, population and military and technological prowess means they stand a good chance at said alliance colonizing us.

Ask Long Feng how that went, and that was without Azula having an advantage like an illegitimate heir as potential regent. Too late.

Knowledge of the characters probably can't be avoided... after all it'd be hard to judge the Princesses in a near vacuum. But yeah... foreknowledge is sketchy because this is a new setting so to speak. The Fire Nation here is probably just as manipulative and expansionist and aggressive and the like as it is in the original timeline. That means there's probably an Earth Kingdom as well as Water Tribes... but they might be on a continent thats of equal distance away from our faux Europe (like in North America or whatever with Fire Nation being a giant island nation in the central "Atlantic" equivalent or some such I dunno).

So things won't likely play out close to what it would be in the cartoon series, but the characters and cultures won't change too much if that makes sense.

But if my personal troops do that then the Lannisters and Starks may directly attack my province which is part of the empire and then the empire would be forced to defend it.

That's a tricky one. In Warhammer Fantasy, the Imperial Provinces do go to War with other powers independently of the other Provinces or the Emperor oftentimes. And while it's forbidden, there have been Civil Wars and conflicts of course. So technically I would think you'd have an almost independent foreign policy... unless the Emperor and/or Elector Council forbids it. And I would imagine that would be a strong mitigating factor. The main point of the Empire is that the Emperor is "First Among Equals" and in this setting it should be made relatively clear that the Imperial Provinces are far stronger together then they are independent. Whether the threat is from the Undead Plagues, Greenskins/Orc Hordes, powerful rival states (such as a Fire Nation or the Huns or something) or whatever, you'd want to keep in minimum good graces with your fellow Elector Counts.

But yeah... I can't think of anything specifically that would forbid you from say... military supporting the Tyrells on Westeros, at least in the short term. And while it might not happen right away, if Westerosi forces tried to invade your province, even as revanchism (though depending on your popularity) they'd probably march to your defense if your sufficiently threatened. But if the Emperor or Elector Counts decide to counsel or take sterner measures against going too balls deep into Westerosi politics then at the very least, your popularity would tank if only because elective and unnecessary War is generally unpopular and expensive with semi-peer opponents.

Nice to see my versus evolve into a Quest so seamlessly. I'll respond to @King Arts when I get a chance first.

He then pulled out a parchment that the king sent him of his daughter and maui posing together for a picture. Magnus started to crack up. "Um...boy. Maui is over 9 ft tall....which means judging by this picture...SON SHE'S OVER SEVEN AND A HALF FEET TALL! (OOC: apparently this is in fact true)

I was not emotionally (nor physically :sneaky: ) prepared for this interpretation of Canon. I must meditate on this.
