As we all know, chips, graphics and/or processors... are all basically the same and people have no real strong opinions or brand loyalty on any of them in general, so I'll just throw these articles out here dunkin on AMD and Intel and wander off for awhile. After all, basically the same silicon shit just different words printed on the chip or card in question right? 🤷‍♀️

Intel and AMD apparently are still top of the game when it comes to CPUs for mobility based computing.

Meanwhile Texas Instruments is still making 30 year old chipsets and laughing.
Only because they've locked in an exclusivity deal with schools that will last basically forever; or at least until the current education system finally collapses.

I despise ARM shills. Worse when they act like Apple is equivalent to ARM doing things themselves.

Anyway, the M1 is a 24w part that gets shit on by proper 15w parts from AMD so, uh, no. Lisa Sue is laughing her ass off right now.

intel and... nvidia???

Anyway...

Ignore Jayz's BS about software, nvidia doesn't even have a fan control utility out of the box, let alone a full overclocking suite. That needs to be done with third party things on nvidia.

The long history of Intel versus AMD... as detailed on fancy charts, for the past twenty years.

.

Fuck Passmark.

That is all.

OM NOM NOM NOM goes the Apple with all of the TSMC hips!

Also Intel apparently lost a US Patent Trial and has been ordered to pay 2.18 billion dollars to technology rival VLSI Technology LLC. What is odd is according to The Verge, VLSI is a bit of a zombie company.

The Verge said:
VLSI seemingly rose from the dead in 2019 specifically to sue. The last time it was an independent company was in 1999, when Philips purchased the semiconductor design firm for $1 billion. Its assets later traveled to Philips spinoff NXP (which you may know from its tap-to-pay NFC chips, among other things). NXP will reportedly get some of Intel’s money, too.

One of VLSI’s claims to fame was being part of the original project with Apple and Acorn to produce the first ARM processors — and the ARM company — responsible for the underpinnings of the chips that now appear in every smartphone, most tablets, and a growing number of laptops and servers.

Technically, the patents are newer than all of that VLSI history. They were originally issued to Freescale Semiconductor, and Sigmatel in 2009, 2010, and 2012, respectively, and the earliest of them was filed in 2005. But Bloomberg reports they were all assigned to the new VLSI in 2019, an LLC that’s attached to a Fortress Investment Group.

Two billion amounts to roughly a tenth of Intel's annual profits.

Meanwhile AMD has announced a GPU that seems pretty well positioned against the RTX 3060ti and RTX 3070 in the RX 6700XT.

All I know I used way too much of the money I saved up while in country to buy an AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 system with Radeon graphics and it was an unstable mess that ran HAWT. I haven't purchased AMD stuff since. Shit, has it been damn near twenty years?

That thing competed with the pentium 4. Which ran hotter, used more power, and was even more unstable. It was probably your vista install that was broken.

If we must look at the OS, it's probably because I was trying to make Windows 2000 PE work the thing, getting drivers was a stone cold bitch.

I fucking hate that in order to offset the cost of a $480 reference 6700 XT, you literally have to use it to mine.

What a shitty market.

I find myself constantly flip-flopping between simply ignoring it or trying to get in on the launch in the hopes of snagging something.
