The Compass Rose travels along a sound and discovers a low-tech seafaring civilization.

This one annoys me. It was tremendously hard to arrange for the sea have foam around the beaches, and then the sandy beaches gradually give away to scrub, the scrub to grass, and the grass to small trees. And then due to the layout and requirement for fog since this is a sound at first light, you can't even see most of that detail. You can't even see the boat's wake when it's sized for forum viewing, nor the other boats in the sound until you blow it up. Teaches me to work too much on fine detail.

Also The Lost Continent and Land of the Lost. Burroughs was a huge influence on me to be sure. Up not so much given the timeline involved, this concept predated it by a decade or two.
I thought of "Up" because of the you mentioned how it was originally a balloon.
TBH, maybe the people who made up took inspiration from you, if this isn't your first time posting these images online.

Also, what software are you using to make these images?

Bryce is the rendering engine. Bryce is really nice for outdoor scenes as it's atmospherics are top-notch but it's tools for actually creating a shape are just this side of useless.

I actually got my start making models on a very obscure, simple freeware program called sPatch back in the late 80s/early 90s when Windows was new technology and nobody was sure if it was really going to ever be as good as DOS. Those were the good old days, I was glad it was only one megabyte because that way it only took me 30 minutes to download it on my landline phone modem.

I wound up learning Rhino in college taking drafting courses and still use my antique student copy (same with Bryce) for the little 3D modelling I do since I'm too cheap to ever upgrade it and don't really need all those newfangled tools for what I want to do anyway. Mostly I make wireframe stick figures I can pose and use as references when I'm drawing. I still model with splines as if I was using sPatch though, you can probably see how I tend to do very flowing organic shapes in 3D where I'm extremely mechanical and like straight lines when I hand draw.

This is one I never posted before as I got discouraged by the lack of any response to the threads on SB and it wasn't made when I was posting elsewhere.

A native takes cover beneath the trees and peers at the Compass Rose as it circles their encampment.

BREATHTAKING!

Like seriously, this is video game quality rendering and no one was interested in it?!?
The attention to detail is insane.
The tree branches and leaves look realistic, and even the zeppelin's rudder has been accounted for.

Probably because I'm really, really bad at self promotion. I've been told I need to get a Paypal, start a patreon, etc. but I always chicken out and feel too much like I'm bragging and putting on airs if I start doing the slightest self promotion.

The Compass Rose navigates an incredibly hostile world where a supergiant sun roasts the earth and islands like masses of razor blades fly through the air.

Damn that looks good.
Never know you could draw anime girls as well 3d rendering and detailed technical lineart.

As it grows towards mid-day, the Compass Rose continues to search for the elusive civilization. A fierce dust-storm kicks up from the badlands so they take shelter in a box canyon. This is as far as this storyline went on SB before I gave up on anyone looking at it.

I'm inordinately proud of making the Compass Rose's nose the way it is. It was crazy hard to get the splines to just fade together and produce a smooth nose that way but real zeppelins have that sort of structure. 'Course since most images show it heading towards something, the nose is rarely in view so I'm happy when I can compose a scene where it's flying towards the camera.

Another never posted before. The Compass Rose explores a world where the rivers flow with blood and needle-like teeth grow up through a fleshy surface.

This was vaguely inspired by a picture of a river running through a bamboo forest.

Blood River was one of the more technically difficult pictures I ever made. The sheer number of polys on the teeth meant it took several days to render and I kept fiddling with it. Ensuring the teeth lined up with the sockets in the ground was a nightmare. There are probably tools to easily do that today but I didn't have them then and worked it out by hand.

A monorail, sketchy but I decided to color in the windows. I seem to be on a kick for these lately. The windows were a stupid decision, I thought I'd make it more interesting by having them at 60 and 30 degree angles, made them a nightmare to put into perspective. The last car's a sleeper car and it's not all all a decision to avoid having to draw the angled windows again in such a tight angle so keep that thought far from your mind.

Autogyro sketch.

I like autogyros. They're quirky and fun and also I like unconventional flying machines. It helps that autogyros today are strongly correlated with person fun craft that let people fly for the price of a luxury car rather than the price of a house so, well, fun. The sponsons on the landing gear are meant to be rails to which this autogyro can attach payload such as fluid sprayers for a cropduster, M*A*S*H* style stretchers for emergency evac, or even bombs or missiles in a pinch.
