What the hell does that even mean.

catalyst game labs bought Ironwind Metals. I'm sad I didn't get the celestials yet.

Edit: one thing to consider is Ironwind was in Cincinnati. it may be that they keep it there and use those facilities to manufacture product in the USA. that would get them around the Tariffs for the metal minis at least.

That likely was CGLs logic.
Ideally they'd transfer the Chinese produced stuff to the US as well but short of someone handing them a lot of cash that's not happening unless the trade war forces it and even then that's more likely to result in no plastic minis
 
the BattleTech miniatures line for IWM is a low % of their total sales.
Only Mike Noe loving BattleTech has kept IWM in RP/BT miniature production, especially during the dark years of 1999-2015.
But now, Mike isn't young and his wife, Melissa is still doing very poorly.
So for Mike & Melissa, this makes a ton of sense.
I highly doubt IWM was 'given' to CGL... from Mike's statement, it seems like CGL gained a very large chunk... maybe even a controlling interest.
I also doubt that IWM will be making plastic miniatures anytime soon: that would require a MA$$IVE infusion of hardware & people... to the point of they may as well create a whole new company.

Wonder what people think about this proposed rework of the BattleTech rules:

I think it's really well thought out solution to a lot of the problems the construction rules have:

One benefit was the ability to completely standardize sections - each section now has the same internal structure, and the amount is easy to remember.

Another benefit is that torso-twisting is much clearer -- the bit above the waist is all the pilot stuff, the stuff below the waist is all the engine stuff. It neatly solves the "quads can't torso-twist" thing by putting enough of the torso below the rotation collar that you can spec off the artwork without it looking goofy (and of course, any mech - biped or quad - that doesn't torso-twist can just be assigned a quirk to that effect)

Third, it keeps the "headshot instakill" (since TACs are now through-cockpit shots), without the weirdness of "no matter how big the mech, the head will never have more than 9 armor or 3 internal structure".

Really, the old Battletech hit locations were kinda goofy, we're just so used to it because we've been playing it for 40 years. A Battlemaster doesn't really *have* a proper "head", just a big ol' cockpit glass. This way, "head" or "no head" is just a question of sensor array design.


Honestly, I think it'd be sick AF to have a BattleTech video game work on these rules, but you'd need to build it from the start with them, since it's a huge pain in the ass to convert one of the existing games to a new construction rule set.
