I want to put big ass engines on it and make it my evil base.
What if that it is somebody evil base ? for example, germans who hide there from 1945 and now start attacking using old u-boots and new UFO.
And they do not die from old age ? they do,but first they kidnapped american house wives and japanees teenagers using UFO,and made them born their children !!!!!

P.S Why american housewifes and japaneese tenegeers ? becouse aliens always molest them in movies and anime !
Germans could not kidnap anybody else,or something would suspect them.

That isn't the case, I'm afraid. Adding anti-icing measures not only costs a pretty penny but also causes problems with the materials used. Most of these things use materials like fiberglass...
Should have used Aluminum.

You do realize that Aluminum can be made corrosion resistant right????
Corrosion resistant, yes; corrosion proof, no.

Fiberglass doesn't corrode at all, and is lighter.

However, this does seem like a big engineering oversight. They should have at least put a de-icing fluid sprayer on it, and heating elements near the gearbox, if heating elements in the blades were not possible.

A lot of the problem is that such things would have been installed anyway but some bright penny pincher decided to force the manufacturer to dump those elements to 'save money'...

Someone ran a cost-benefit analysis and decided that the wind turbines would probably not go through the worst storm in living memory. They only last, what. Twenty years?

To expand, this is the worst storm that anyone alive has experienced in the area, and it's the worst storm alive that anyone living in the area can expect to see. That's a worst case scenario that nobody builds for.

Wind power is still shit for powering a city, though.

Also they don't last very long, and they basically just bury those fiberglass blades in a landfill. Super environmentally friendly, right? ;)
