Attack on Titan: No, Eren definitely did something wrong

Pretty sure those are from other series published in the same magazine.

I know, unfortunately I can’t read Japanese till now

All I had in college was Japanese 101 and 102

And I think they used more than one writing style or something and I’ve long forgotten it anyway

Just read the latest chapter.

No way this wraps up in just 120 pages. The final chapter is either going to be like triple length, or we're going to get a barebones epilogue at best and it will feel super unsatisfying.

Unless something something PATHS everyone dies, which would be very disappointing.

You know, seeing the power shown, I really wonder how/why Eldia didn't conquer the entire world centuries ago

Probably just being spread too thin and having to deal with more political backstabbing then they'd be able to and....they cause way too much destruction

Aside from countries like Hizuru that allied with them, they pretty much did? That’s why the entire world hates them.

By the sound of how I recall it being mentioned how being an Eldian Citizen meant a lot when travelling abroad before, I'm guessing the majority were almost treated like vassal states who gave tribute to Eldia to varying degrees.

I'm surprised the world doesn't hate Marley much in-turn, given that they're more-or-less the only ones who can make use of them for combat

New episode's good, but the CGI (for the Titans especially) is... really uneven. Hopefully this won't be a trend for the rest of the season.

And in a reveal for manga readers too, apparently the Warhammer Titan's name is Lara.

So, anyone here following this besides me? The manga's a few chapters away from ending, and the final season of the anime is premiering in five days as well.

So I have not seen the show but I have caught on all the anime I have been watching so I have been considering Attack on Titan snice the winter season doesn't have much of an interest to me.

So is the anime worth watching?

I can only speak for myself obviously, but I would say yes, absolutely. One of the best series (both in manga and anime) out there IMO, and I've heard others give the same assessment pretty often.

Especially after a massive reveal and tonal shift halfway through the series that drastically recontextualizes everything that happened in the first half. So, keep that in mind if you check it out.

So I started it and have watched the first three epsoides.

Overall it off to a strong start and gives me a nice heavy action show while I wait for more Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It is also a nice change of pace from the massive amount of self inserts and Idols anmie.

Over the action is spot on and the Titans make for a great unstoppable bad guy. Will probably chime in more once I get into the meat of season 1.

I'll have to echo the general opinion that this chapter was rushed. The Zeke-Armin conversation alone should have been most of a chapter on its own, at least. But I really don't see that many issues with the essence of it. Zeke's philosophy was that death is preferable to a lifetime of suffering, so in the aftermath of his life's work being demolished, I don't think it's contrived that he was willing to just let Eren end it all. And while it could have been much more substantial IMO, Armin being the one to convince him otherwise through idealistic optimism (plus Paths shenanigans allowing Zeke to connect it to his own experience) likewise feels pretty natural. I wish they had used more of their mutual smarts to find a way out of the Paths or something, but eh. And as mentioned, people just talking being the ultimate means of solving the story's central conflict is extremely appropriate, since the absence of that is precisely why the world is where it is.

The past Titan Shifters "waking up" flows naturally from Eren doing the same to Ymir, but there should have been a reason as to why these ones specifically appeared, and why they appeared when they did. My first thought was that it had something to do with Zeke and Armin knowing all of them, but neither of them knew Kruger, so... presumably that's something to do with whatever Ymir's hoping for, as mentioned above.

My feelings on Zeke's death are mixed. On one hand, I didn't expect him to survive the manga, and am both unsurprised and glad that he was the key to stopping the Rumbling. Aside from killing him actually being what stops the Rumbling, as I assumed Eren's reliance on him was severed like everyone else, but apparently royal blood is still necessary for the Founding Titan to work, even if Ymir otherwise has free will within that constraint. Whatever, not a big deal. Not sure how I feel about Levi killing him, though. Part of it feels natural, for obvious reasons, but Levi's inner monologue last chapter had me thinking he'd get over his desire to kill Zeke. Guessing that empty, unfulfilled expression he had when doing it will come up at some point.

Lastly, I don't think the conflict is done just yet. I doubt the Armin bomb will put the spine creature down for good, and I certainly don't think Eren (whose Human head is somewhere within his Titan head, I'm guessing) is out of the picture yet. Also very curious to see what becomes of that Eldian-Marleyan standoff we saw last chapter.

Everyone on r/titanfolk last night was collectively losing their shit over the leaks. I stayed up till like 2 am reading the threads.

As the chapter has released it looks like its being ripped on r/manga right now.

I have pretty mixed opinions on this chapter. It felt pretty rushed to me as well.

I have no idea why Zeke death would stop the rumbling at all since Eren in Chapter 122 broke Ymir being enslaved by the will of the Royal Family.

Though going on that point, Eren could potentially have his body crystalized inside Paradis. As it heals he might leave and then go over to Historia, touching her child who likely inherits the Beast Titan, and thus restarts the Rumbling.

Either way this chapter is going to be a disappointing talk-no-jutsu ending or the calm before the storm.

I had read the leaks a week ago and thought that they sounded "okay", and now that I've read the chapter myself... well it is an underwhelming resolution to the battle.

Going to wait until next month's final chapter before I make a post on the ending.

Ngl I was pretty let down by the chapter. Apparently people in Japan are pissed too.

Eren could potentially use the Warhammer and be in Paradis. As for the Founding Titan, its essentially a Titan god, but Isayama nerfed it so much so that a raggedy band of 19 year olds could defeat it without any casualties.

I mean, the alliance defeated the Founding Titan while its user was deliberately refraining from using its God powers on them directly, and because the guy who enabled the Founding Titan to be used at all pitched in with his own mini-God powers.

And because one of them is a walking nuke, so. I wouldn't call that much of a nerf.

Attack on Titan chapter 138

Very sad to see Connie, Jean, and Gabi die, along with the Marleyan cast's families. I hope Onyankopon lives but the odds are grim (unless literally all of the titans were commanded to ignore the humans and just rush straight for the slime).

Really, really sucks for Reiner, Annie, and Pieck. They have no where left to go. They are utterly hated by Paradis for bringing down the walls way back when. Their families are dead, and there are pretty much no Eldians left on the mainland, as most died during the rumbling, and the survivors here on the mountain have all died. They have no real bonds with the Marleyans, or anyone else in the world. The only people they have left are the handful of Survey Corps survivors, but, again, even if the Survey Corps was sympathetic, it is just unlikely that Reiner, Annie, and Pieck could retire in Paradis. Well, I guess their faces haven't been plastered across newspapers, and almost everyone who knew what they looked like is dead, so I guess they could hypothetically return to Paradis with Mikasa/Armin/Levi and live out their days on the island in some village.

I don't know what will happen with Falco. He could go back to the family he and Gabi hung out with for a few days at Paradis. Or, if Reiner/Annie/Pieck are allowed to live in Paradis, Falco could hang with them.

Hanging threads left for the epilogue in next month's chapter:
  • Did Onyankopon live? What does he do next?
  • Did Lady Kiyomi and the crew of the ship make it safely to land? What happened to their homeland?
  • Did Krista successfully gave birth to her child? What happened to her child? Who took up the role of the father, or even if the child was even considered royalty?
  • What about the future relations between Paradis and other countries?
  • What happened to the surviving nations are facing as they were inundated with refugees?
  • Will the northern side of the continent/peninsula is ever restored for habitation?
  • What happens to the Eldian curse/curse of Ymir? Will random people still be condemned with the superpower and die after a few years? Or will the curse be broken?
  • What happens to Mikasa/Armin/Levi/Reiner/Annie/Pieck/Falco after?
