So I'm going to be making a video game but I'm having trouble deciding on the question in the poll above. Both let me do some interesting things, but they are entirely different styles. Neither is really harder to make than the other, but visual design would vary massively along with the interface, so I can't just do both.

Any help solving this dilema?

Definitely classical. First person turn based RPG is, at least in modern times, a very uncommon setup (and arguably for good reasons) that will weird people out, if its not to be the game's gimmick in itself.

Well, part of the game will be to weird you out.

Horror, ya know? First person lets it be a bit more viceral while classic, like FF6, lets me do a few more interface screws.

Duke Nukem

Hail to the king baby

Sounds interesting. do you have the plot laid out?

Duke Nukem

Hail to the king baby
Oh yes. Not every detail, but many of them. Scifi horror mystery RPG, 3 separate storylines for different PCs that you choose at character creation.
That sounds like a good game. i'd go with classical buts its up to you.

Will this be a JRPG or Western style?

By which I mean will the player be building their own character and picking out every trait and appearance (western style) and then possibly attract companions, or be a predefined character out of several with all their abilities and appearance chosen by the game designer (JRPG)?

This makes a significant difference. In western style RPGs there's a conscious assumption that to some degree, the player is building a self-insert (and goes so far as to make the character a person from out world inserted into in the Ultima series) so a first-person perspective could work. On the other hand if the "main" is very unique and stylized and a character in their own right rather than a player-insert, making it first person wouldn't be as good, particularly since their exotic appearance is probably a major draw.

Half and half.
