The Era of the Red Dove is one steeped in death, but many wonder how it came about.
As many know, the Spanish Civil War was a rather eventful point in Pre-WWII history, with all sorts of parties coming to blows, from Fascist to Anarchist, everyone fought the war, and everyone bled. Of course in the end the Republican side won. Which was shortly followed up by the April 21st Coup, which saw many Republican leaders executed, and thousands fleeing the nation.
One of which was Franciso Franco, who was at the time relegated to leading troops in the Canary Islands. He hadn’t participated in the war, but many communist leaders saw him as a threat, with his Monarchist leanings, and he was forced to flee to Mexico, where he and many Spanish Monarchist would reside for years to come.
In Spain, the nation would join the Comintern, and would for many years be occupied by the Germans and Italians, until the 1943 Liberation of Spain, where Allied forces would cross the Straits of Gibraltar into Spain. That with the Invasion of Normandy in the same Year, would bring WWII to a close in 1944, at least in Europe. VE day would be Celebrated on the 26th of October, the same day Adolf Hitler was executed by American forces.
After the war things would continue as they had before the Second World War. The Communist regime was brutal to the Spanish people. Possession of any Christian object was punishable by life indenturement, where many were treated as less than slaves. Still, many taught their children the bible from memory in place of church.
Churches were torn apart, and replaced with monuments to Spanish Communism. One of the most famous of which was the destruction of the Santiago Cathedral, where many of the cities residents walled themselves in, believing that the Communist government would not destroy it whilst people still resided within. They were proven wrong, which detonations rung out, and all five hundred occupants died in the collapse. It would later be replaced with a statue of Dolores Ibárruri, the Premier of Spain.
Many short famines occurred in spain, but the longest lasting one occurred from 1946-1952. This famine killed a reported Three to Five Million, and would have lasting effects on the Spanish population.
Reportedly, many ethnic cleansings occured from 1945-1960. These cleansings focused on African and Arab peoples. Many would flee to nearby Morocco.
The Communist Government would make several attempts to spread propaganda, and they found the Television to be the best tool for it. The Spanish Government would grant Televisions to all that could use one, and would freely set up one for a citizen. Mostly the News was state run, and Cartoons would play with political indoctrination in mind.
In 1960, Francisco Franco and many other Spanish Monarchists would land in Spain secretly, and on the 5th of September, launch a successful coup against the Communist Government. The Premier would be giving a speech on national television at the time, and would be executed on live television for all of Spain to see.
In 1961, Francisco Franco would hand the reigns of power to Alfonso Jaime Marcelino Manuel Víctor María de Borbón, who would be crowned as Alfonso XIV.
Spain would grow stable after the Red Dove Era, but would never forget the crimes of the past.
